LOCATION: Freehold System

FACTION: Independent at the moment.

RANK: Captain

SPECIES: Human

AGE: Thirty Four

SEX: Male

HEIGHT: 5"11

WEIGHT: 184lbs

EYES: Grey

HAIR: Brown

SKIN: Caucasian

FORCE SENSITIVE: Negative

STRENGTHS:
  • Hypercalculic: Born with a rare genetic condition that improved, or rather, gave him a predisposition to math and arithmetic. He can do advanced calculations without much effort at all - something very useful for a man of his position and duties.
  • Cautious: Despite an innate greed for credits, salvage, and glory; he is remarkably fairly cautious. He only commits to a fight when he is sure he needs to.
  • Capable Fleet Commander: Through years of diligent trial and error, Roche has shaped up to be a formidable admiral (or at the very least, captain) of his own right. Prioritizing a fighter-focused doctrine above all others, he is particularly competent with carriers and their associated spacecraft.
  • Deceptive: A trait learned from a saga of uneven trade deals and high stakes situations, he has an uncanny ability for deception through the manipulation of his body language and his voice tone. It is occasionally difficult to know when he is joking or dead-serious as a result.

WEAKNESSES:
  • Deathwish: Brought about by the loss of his wife and young daughter, Roche has an urge to join them. What has prevented this thus far is unknown. It could be a want for a fitting end, the acknowledgement that they wouldn't want him to go out that way, or maybe just good old fashioned greed and a lust for glory. He doesn't talk about it much.
  • Body Purist: Coming from a childhood phobia of robots (though this has subsided), he is uncomfortable with the idea of augmentations to his natural body. Implants, skin-armor, and other such cybernetic additions are an affront to the natural order of things.
  • Lackluster Fighter: While he is at least able to fire a blaster with some small measure of accuracy, it is by far his worst domain in the realm of combat. He is also quite mushy, considering the fact that he is an average non-force-wielding space-captain with no magic heebeejeebees to back him up. He'll be leaving the personal combat to the commandoes, yessiree.
  • Attached: Yet another fault from the loss of his family, Roche is unusually well-concerned with the lives of the men and women under him. It pains him deeply to lose some of them in combat, or even more, see a mutiny amongst them should it come. It should be said, however, that he is still a pirate. Betrayal and conflict comes natural to the profession, and in some part he is constantly ready for it, but that doesn't soften the blow any more than it should. Additionally, he has little to no regard for people outside that circle. He's a privateer, not a charity worker.

APPEARANCE:
A crooked nose, unkempt hair, shaded glasses, a mischevious - and sleazy - look, and a constantly unbuttoned collar; Roche is no man's well-dressed manager. The toils and tendencies of a pirate's life has him draped in a hyperweave-leather overcoat on top of his lean muscle frame to cover weapons and data-tablets, and he also often can be found wearing combat boots to accentuate his height over the six foot barrier. As a mark of eccentricity, he can from time to time be seen wearing a tricorn hat when on the bridge. It fits him well, surprisingly.

  • In another life, Alliser Roche was a simple man.

In another life, Alliser Roche was a husband and a father.

In another life, Alliser Roche lost everything that mattered to him in the space of a single afternoon.

    . . .

Once a mercenary pilot for an average corporation in an unremarkable system, Roche's life changed when he met a young assistant for his company by the name of Camilla. A chance meeting as he happened to bring by a stack of paperwork, it blossomed into a first date and then into a relationship. He intended to marry her, but her parents denied his offers of a dowry. It was too low, in their opinion, and they believed his pilot's paycheck would not be enough to support a family.

Maybe they were right. But in the end, his choice was still the same in response. With a loan taken from a shady businessman, he bought a small ship, retrofitted it with weapons, and became a pirate captain. The salvage and fenced goods were well more than enough for the dowry, and the two began their (now) married relationship in earnest. It wasn't long after that his daughter, named for her grandmother, Ann, was born.

He was naturally infatuated with her, and life seemed that it could only go up. The pickings were good, the bills were low, and his family was as perfect as could be. Then a gang war gone wrong took the latter away from him as his house was mistaken for a hideout.

Broken beyond relative repair at the loss of his family, Roche fell deeper into a hole of piracy, salvaging himself a new ship and an even larger crew. He fell back on the last "stable" rung of his life, and ever since, he's been reaving and privateering like a mad man on spice. Intent on burning the names of his family into the stars, his journey has just begun with a wildly imaginative plan in mind. Force only knows if it'll work out.
