Private Allies of Circumstance

Drakon scowled to himself when Braze noticed some of his condition. It would not be a good idea for the little brat to get an idea of Drakon's little habit. The snotnosed sprite might just think he could get one over on Drakon.

Drakon shrugged nonchalantly trying to give away nothing, to the kids question.

When the kid started talking Drakon already had the comm's out recording every thing he said.

"You get all that Buck?" Drakon asked his pilot.

"Aye aye Cap'n"

"What's your name again kid?" Drakon asked as he turned away then back towards him.

"If I'm going to introduce you to the crew I'm gonna have to give them a name." Drakon explained.

Braze didn't press the man to reveal anything he wished to keep buried, though a subtle crease of concern touched those pale features.

“My name is Braze,” he answered honestly.

He moved to take a seat, folding his already-small frame into an even less imposing shape. There was no challenge in the gesture, no attempt to provoke another confrontation. Whether Drakon understood it or not, he alone held Braze’s safety aboard this ship. Braze had placed himself among strangers, surrounded by weapons, loyalties, and tempers he did not yet understand…and still, he had chosen to trust the man before him.

Perhaps not completely. Perhaps not without caution.

But enough that he had begun to worry over Drakon’s present condition

Braze’s gaze lowered rather than lingering upon whatever discomfort Drakon sought to conceal. He rested his hands loosely within his lap, leaving the man both space and dignity.

“You don’t have to explain anything,” he added after a moment. “But if you need a little time before introducing me to the others…I can wait.”

Drakon scowled as the boy noticed his condition. If he couldn't even fool a boy barely out of his wadding clothes, he'd have a difficult time hiding it from the crew. Oh Drakon was no fool, he was sure the crew knew of his little habit, but as long as he maintained his composure in front of them, they would never dare question his orders.

Drakon wanted to tell the little braka to go to the depths. However, he knew that would be a rash move. The kind of rash move a junkie made after shaking off the vestiges of a high. Drakon took a deep breath to settle his nerves.

He just needed a couple minutes that's all, he was fine, he had it under control. Drakon would never let his habit get in the way of a score.

Drakon waited while his nerves and his tremors settled, until he was feeling more or less himself again.

"I'm fine. Come on lets introduce you to the crew."

Drakon turned to leave the med bay, opened the door to find the entire crew waiting for him.

"This the new navvy Cap'n?"

"That's right Scavvy" Drakon confirmed.

"Well me and the lads were wonderin if it'd be alright to err initiate him."

Drakon grinned.

"Be my guest, his names Braze."

There was a loud cheer. They swarmed the med bay carrying copious amounts of alcohol, started pouring Braze cups of the slog.

"Here's to Braze he's true blue…" The chant was picked up and the entire crew started singing a jaunty tune in preparation of the initiation party.

He continued to keep a watchful gaze upon Drakon Teague Drakon Teague , though his attention was abruptly stolen when several of the other men came forward to properly 'initiate' him as one of the crew.

Braze drank along with them, unwilling to immediately sour whatever strange welcome they had decided to offer him. Unfortunately, there was only so much a body of his small stature could reasonably endure. The liquor was strong, the portions decidedly less considerate for his small size , and it did not take long before the warmth of it began creeping into his cheeks and softening the careful precision of his movements.

Braze managed to swallow the first mouthful without incident, though only barely. His expression twisted as the liquor burned its way down, lips pressing tight while he fought valiantly against the cough threatening to betray him. A tiny breath escaped through his nose instead, his eyes watering despite every effort at composure.

He stared down at the cup with newfound suspicion.

"That was significantly stronger than advertised."
