SPECIAL FEATURES
  • None
Strengths:
  • Ordinance: With laser cannons, blasters, and a light mass driver cannon the AT-AS had a wide mission profile and could be useful in most situations. With short, medium, and long range weapons it was a threat on the battlefield one could not ignore.
Weaknesses:
  • Weak In the Knees: Heavy ordinance to the legs of the walker could cause the entire walker to fall over, potentially destroying it in the process and definitely disabling it for the battle.
  • Low To the Ground: Being low to the ground, the AT-AS was highly susceptible to mines and other traps like heavy cables and ion mines.
  • Belly Up: While the AT-AS was no slouch when it came to armor, its underbelly was almost completely unarmored, making it the most vulnerable to heavy ordinance and heavy infantry weapons like powerful blaster cannons and heavy infantry laser cannons.
DESCRIPTION
The AT-AS, or "All Terrain Artillery Scout", was one of the most widely produced and utilized ground vehichles in service to the Corellian Confederation. The walker was a far cry from the recent trend in Corellian military doctrine to produce fewer, higher quality and specialized designs. Instead the AT-AS was a cheap relatively effective patrol vehicle and anti-infantry platform. Standing at a height of approximately 7 Meters, the relatively short walker was susceptible to mines and other traps and suffered when facing heavy weapons or when out flanked. Essentially an armored cabin affixed with laser cannons, blasters, and a single light mass driver cannon, the AT-AS struggled to outspeed other walkers. Its impressive weapons compliment however proved effective in supressing infantry units, light vehichles, and other walkers while its mass driver afforded it the ability to act in a light artillery role in long range engagements.

In large scale ground engagements the AT-AS was deployed in groups alongside armored troop transports and other heavier walkers. While not quick, they were effectively able to support other vehichles in the field, creating an effective and cohesive combat unit. When heavy artillery was not an option, battle lines of AT-AS walkers could be used instead and though their mass drivers didn't have the same punch as a walker mounted turbolaser or heavy artillery, in groups their concentrated fire was often more than enough to overwhelm enemy fortifications.

This flexibility in mission profile and low cost made it an effective tool in repelling would-be invaders but its widespread deployment across Corellian colonies drew questions about the walker's true purpose. Opponents of Corellia's rapid militarization looked to the AT-AS as Corellia moving ever closer towards full independence despite Corellian officials claiming otherwise.
