THE STEADY SOUND OF FOOTSTEPS RESONATED AGAINST durasteel resonated across the vast openness of the Imperial cell block. The soft clanging drew the attention of several prisoners as the group of prison personnel and their prisoner passed by, many of whom made attempts to steal a peek at their new block mate. One solider ushered each prisoner away from the small slots in each cell door with a violent gesture, the butt of his blaster rifle just the perfect size for slipping through and delivering any would be punishment. The prisoners were smart enough to know their place, however, and after several of them meekly slumped back to into the depths of their cells, all future curiosities simply faded away.
Two stormtroopers, one of which being the culler of the aforementioned curiosities, flanked a small figure. They were led by a corrections officer, his dark gray dress uniform emblazoned with a few badges of merit that portrayed his rank without a shadow of a doubt. The First Order insignia accentuated the officer's cap, resting above a weathered face. The details of the any lines or scarring were blurred by a blue glow emitted by a datapad, one which the officer intently studied as he led his new charge to her cell. He stopped in front of one of the metal cell doors, identical to the others save for a set of large numbers painted on its surface: 4709.
The officer turned to the figure, staring down at the sprightly girl in front of him, her cold, uncaring eyes staring back at him. He felt the urge to strike her for daring to show any sort of disrespect, but decided to keep his feelings in check for the time being. He grunted and thrust the datapad at her, pressing it into her small chest with more force than was necessary. "Make sure the information is correct. We'll know if you try to pull one over on us, and I can guarantee you won't like the consequences.”
The girl glared at the officer, taking the 'pad from him and staring down at it. After only a second, she looks back up at him. "You seem to have misspelled 'innocent bystander'," she said plainly, her almost child-like voice echoing through the chamber as she tapped her finger on the word "prisoner" across the top of the entry. She flashed a cheeky grin at the officer. Her snide comment was swiftly returned with a rough knock in the shoulder by one of the stormtroopers. She stumbled forward slightly from the impact and quickly turned her head to glare at her assaulter. "Okay, rude," she retorted, sticking her tongue out of the 'trooper when he didn't respond. Letting out a self-gratified hmph, she turned back to the datapad and began to scour the information it contained.

The girl finished looking over the information and nonchalantly tossed the 'pad back to the officer. "Whatever. Looks right to me," she said in an uncaring tone, folding her arms over her chest. She was getting irritated with this whole affair, and truth be told, she didn't really understand half of what she read anyway--something that irritated even more. "Oh, and you might wanna re-check your facts. Assassins are the quiet, sneaky, creep-up-behind-you types. I made sure my work was known." She finished this her remark with another extension of her tongue, this time at the officer and with an added insulting hand gesture.
"No doubt the reason you failed," the officer returned with his own mocking tone. His hand extended to the electronic locking mechanism beside the cell door, his fingers gracefully tapping the keypad as he entered the access code. The door opened upward with a loud hiss and the officer gestured to the interior of the cell. "Get her out of my sight." The two 'troopers snapped to attention and ushers her inside with more than a little force. Once she was inside, she turned around to face the officer. She stared at him defiantly as the door dropped close with a loud, metallic thud.
Alexis stood there a moment longer as she listened to the footsteps fade away. With a sigh, she resigned herself to the small metal cot at the far end of the cell. A small window was set into the thick blastplate wall, with nothing more than stars shrouded in darkness visible on the other side. The girl slumped sideways with a groan, laying on her side. Now that she was alone, she was beginning to understand the predicament she had landed herself in. Soon, she began to feel a lack of sleep take its toll, closing her eyes as consciousness left her mind.
[ SEVERAL MONTHS LATER ]
A LOUD KNOCKING ON THE CELL DOOR snapped Alexis from her uneasy sleep. The difficulty of trying to sleep on the cold, metal cot was nothing new, but the fact that someone--or something--was knocking on her cell door certainly was. She stared at the door for a moment, wondering if her mind was simply playing tricks on her. Months of solitude could no doubt affect a person's psyche, after all. Not that she would actually know, however. A few seconds went by and the metal plate set into the door slid open suddenly. The light from the adjacent common area of cell block I-47 was mostly blocked by the silhouette of a figure on the other side of the door. Without a word, Alexis' visitor slid something through the slot before sliding the panel closed with a snap. The object clanged to the floor. Alexis simply stared at it for a time, uncertain of what had just happened. She had never had a visitor other than the uniformed 'trooper that delivered her occasional meals, and had certainly never received anything more than said meals.
Uncertainty urging her to stay put, Alexis rose slowly to her feet and approached the object. It was a simple datapad, easily recognizable but mysterious nonetheless. Alexis lowered herself to her knees, sitting with her legs tucked behind her as she reached for the 'pad. She touched it carefully, lifting it gingerly off of the dusty floor. She stared at it, then thumbed the activation switch. Its screen flickered to life and a series of words appeared across it, forming a short message. Confused and all the more curious, Alexis began to read:
BRIGHTHAWK:
SORRY IT'S TAKEN THIS LONG TO REACH YOU. THESE PRISON GOONIES AREN'T REALLY INTO ACCEPTING VISITORS THESE DAYS, IF YOU CATCH MY MEANING. ANYWAY, THE PLAN IS IN FULL MOTION. WE SHOULD HAVE YOU HOME BY THE END OF THE SEASON--WHICH, IN CASE YOU'VE LOST TRACK OF TIME, ISN'T FAR OFF NOW. JUST KEEP YOUR HEAD DOWN AND YOU'LL BE GOLDEN. WE'LL BE IN CONTACT. YOU'LL KNOW WHEN IT'S TIME TO MOVE.
STAY OUT OF TROUBLE, KID.
If there was ever a more cryptic message, Alexis has never read it. She wouldn't even think it was intended for her if not for the writer's use of her only known alias. It appeared as if someone intended to remove her from the prison, and the tone of the message indicated the sender was an ally of some sort, as well as implying she knew what this "plan" was. However, Alexis wasn't aware of anyone she knew that would have known where she was, much less that she had been captured and imprisoned by the First Order. Her instincts told her it was most certainly a trap, but something else inside her shadowed her doubt. It was as if, deep down, beyond the depths of her comprehension, she somehow knew this message was genuine.
Besides, it wasn't as if she could do anything about it right now. Or do anything at all, for that matter.
