Alana froze as the presence hit her; thick, suffocating, horrific. The air shifted, carrying with it the reek of something ancient and wrong. Her grip on her blaster tightened, but her face betrayed the rush of conflicting instincts: fear coiled in her gut, and yet Junko's irreverent tone pulled a startled laugh from her lips.
She muttered, half to herself, though the smile in her voice betrayed her. "Of course you would flirt at a time like this."
The humor was short lived.
The sound came first; deep, dragging claws raking over stone, each scrape reverberating through the cavern until it felt like the walls themselves groaned in protest. Then came the weight: a ponderous, ground-shaking thud as something massive shifted in the darkness.
The crystal glow caught it in fragments: a jagged horn, the slick gleam of leathery hide, the flash of fangs behind a maw built for tearing through bone. When it finally emerged into full view, the cave seemed to shrink around it. The light of the crystals died, as the beast neared.
A Terentatek was a nightmare given form; hulking shoulders rolling beneath hide thick as ancient armor, its spined back bristling like a fortress of bone. Its eyes burned with a feral, unnatural hunger. The pupils were small, but impossibly bright against its brutish skull. Each breath came as a guttural rumble, steaming the chill air. The air of the mine began to grow foul.
The creature's forelimbs ended in talons longer than a forearm, gouging trenches into the rock as it advanced. Every step carried weight, not just physical but in the Force itself. It was a suffocating presence, dark and oppressive, making the crystals around them flicker and hum as though recoiling in pain.
When it lifted its head, horns scraping the cavern ceiling, the Terentatek let out a roar that was less sound than physical force, rattling the marrow in their bones. This was no mere beast; it was a predator forged for one purpose: to kill.
Alana felt her insides freeze, as she raised her blaster, and froze.
