SPECIAL FEATURES
- Like all weapon designs from Aurora Industries, the Sothera is designed with versatility in mind as the weapon has three configuration modes that can be switched through with a simple button press within the grip or through a command from an integrated HUD:
- While set to Crowd Control Mode, the Sothera is designed to fire a wide, but low-powered to avoid serious injuries, repulsor wave to disorient or knock down large groups of beings.
- While set to Pressor Mode, the Sothera is designed to fire a much higher-powered repulsor wave to severely injure and knock back enemy infantry and even light vehicles, essentially making the weapon into a gravity shotgun. This mode also borrows from tensor rifle technology, with the wave able to disrupt and damage enemy forces on a cellular level.
- While set to Catapult Mode, the Sothera deploys the two panels on either side of the main body of the weapon, creating a small but powerful tractor beam that can ensnare and stop both physical projectiles and even freeze up enemy troops when the trigger on the Sothera is half pressed. However, when the trigger is fully depressed, it activates a tractor pressor within the weapon and launches whatever has been caught in its tractor beam at extremely high speeds at a target that can result in significant kinetic damage upon impact.
- Much like the Kylox and heavy weapons, the Sothera can project an energy field in front of its user that gives protection from enemy infantry fire when deployed. The shield can also be used in conjunction with both the Crowd Control Mode and the Pressor Mode.
- Utilizing a protective liquid coating and animated metal sealant in the design of the weapon, the Sothera is highly protected against environmental stresses and can be used in any environment without fear of the weapon failing due to adverse conditions such as snow, ice, sand, water, and so on.
- The Sothera has great versatility for a close-range weapon for either crowd control situations or combat scenarios by utilizing gravity waves, repulsor technology, and tractor beams. In addition, because the system utilizes repulsor technology and has thorilide shock absorbers, the weapon has no recoil.
- The Sothera can also provide its wielder some level of protection by projecting a front-facing energy shield to absorb enemy fire for a time.
- While the Sothera has great versatility and firepower when necessary, it is mainly designed to be a close-range weapon except for its Catapult Mode, reducing its capabilities to deal with enemies from a distance.
- The energy shield projected by the Sothera can absorb enemy fire, but if it takes too much damage, it will overheat and disappear, once again leaving the wielder of the weapon exposed to enemy fire until the heat is vented and the shield can be deployed again.
Developed as part of Aurora Industries' Gilgamesh Program, the AI-115x Sothera Repulsor Rifle is the company's take on the venerable, if rare, repulsor gun and tensor rifle as it seeks to continue revamping its weapons production and products. The Sothera continues the company's design philosophy of versatility mixed with firepower, albeit in a more unconventional manner, with its three different firing configurations.
The first setting for the Sothera, Crowd Control, is designed to fire a low-powered repulsor wave to disorient and knock down protestors or other rabble rousers at close ranges. This mode isn't strong enough to cause any serious injuries, with the company envisioning it more as a police tool, hence its designation. However, if a situation turns violent or if the weapon has been taken into a combat scenario by soldiers, it can be switched to its second setting, Pressor Mode, with the touch of a button or HUD command. Pressor Mode unleashes the full power of the weapon with a much stronger gravity wave of tensor energy, turning the Sothera into a repulsor shotgun. The energy released from this mode can deal massive damage and can blast back enemy infantry or light vehicles, even damaging the cellular structure of enemy troops caught in the wave.
While the weapon is designed mainly as a close-quarters tool, it wouldn't be an Aurora Industries weapon if it didn't have some extra functionality. This extra comes in the form of the weapon's Catapult Mode where it becomes a miniature tractor beam that can capture an enemy trooper or physical projectile by a half press of the trigger. When the trigger is fully depressed, it launches the captured object or trooper using tractor pressor technology at high speeds that can cause significant damage upon impact. This also gives the weapon some extended range, although it does require something for the weapon to actually launch.
In addition to its weapon functionality, the Sothera also can project a front-facing energy shield to absorb enemy infantry fire for a time to protect its user.
