STRENGTHS
  • Prow Magnetic Railguns - Many of the craft in the Aether SD-30 line utilize these rare and exotic pieces of artillery that are not commonly utilized in the Galaxy. Each of these vessels is outfitted with four such artillery pieces that are known to fire a solid slug projectile via electromagnetic force with devastating results.
  • Light Destroyer - These craft were designed with the intention of standing in as a Ship-of-the-Line and supplementing the larger, more powerful Star Destroyers. Each vessel boasts an impressive array of armaments and defensive capabilities, allowing them to stand toe-to-toe in many engagements against anything short of the larger Destroyer variants and Battlecruisers themselves.
  • Interceptor - Extensive retrofitting and redesign of the Aether SD-30a had led to the development of the SD-30e, with this variant being known for its increased agility and nimble maneuverability, and noted to have a higher speed at both Sublight and Light Speeds compared to the sister designs.
WEAKNESSES
  • Starfighter Support - Designed to focus on armaments, defensive capabilities, and increasing its overall agility rather than hangar capacity, these craft are limited in their capacity to carry Starfighter or Support Squadrons. This often requires that these vessels rely on a Carrier or Escort craft to provide adequate starfighter support.
  • Railgun Capacitors - The capacitors that are utilized in the main weapon system are known to be more advanced and improved over their predecessors. However, they still require additional time to charge before the weapon, resulting in a slower firing rate and preventing heavy reliance on and rapid use of these weapons.
  • Sublight Drive Systems - Located along the center-line of the craft toward the extreme aft is the primary Drive Systems that propel these craft forward. The location, ease of access, and limited weapon coverage make for a tempting target, and a successful strike has the potential to cripple the vessel.
DESCRIPTION
Design and production of the Aether SD-30e began when a group of engineers and technicians at Aether Systems extensively redesigned and refitted a standard Aether SD-30a with the intention of creating a Light Destroyer that could serve in an escort role. This extensive redesign and retrofitting produced a vessel that was known for its increased agility, with the SD-30e being capable of reaching higher speeds and acceleration at both Sublight and Light Speeds compared to the sister designs. Like the progenitor of the SD-30 line, the design of the Aether SD-30e includes, as its primary weapons, a set of rare and exotic artillery that is often no longer utilized in many ship designs - the Magnetic Railgun - which utilizes electromagnetic force to hurel a solid slug projectile at an enemy, often with devastating results, to batter down its shields and tear through its hull. However, these weapons rely heavily on a series of charged capacitors to provide the needed energy and power to fire these weapons, and though those utilized in the design are much more advanced, they still require ample time to charge, thus resulting in a slower rate of fire. This means that the craft cannot overly rely upon these weapons, nor use them to unleash rapid volleys of projectiles.

Part of the redesign and refitting of this vessel included the introduction of more powerful engines, a streamlined design, and additional power generators to feed those engines. This has resulted in a more agile and maneuverable craft compared to the other vessels in the SD-30 production line. As such, these craft are noted to be capable of achieving rapid acceleration and higher speeds at both Sublight and Light Speed, far outpacing its sister vessels and easily keeping up with smaller vessels without falling too far behind despite its size. However, the inclusion of these systems - as well as the extended armaments and defensive capabilities - has greatly reduced the capacity to support and deploy smaller craft. As it stands, the Aether SD-30e is known to be capable of deploying only a singular Starfighter squadron, necessitating that it depend more heavily on Dedicated Carriers or Starfighter Escorts for additional support.

With the Aether SD-30e effectively marking the third design in the overall SD-30 production series, it has just as many drawbacks as it does strengths to stand upon. However, despite this, it remains an effective Capital Ship. Its heavy armaments, coupled with its increased speed and agility, permit it to strike an enemy hard and disappear just as quickly when utilizing hit-and-run tactics to overcome a more challenging opponent. Its defensive capabilities more than make up for its lack of Starfighter support, and it has shown that it is more than a match for some of the heaviest Cruiser variants that it may come across.
