STRENGTHS
  • Improved Targeting Computers - These craft were designed to incorporate upgraded Targeting Systems that were missing from the original design, providing these vessels with more accurate firepower, replacing the previous standard of "fire everything and hope it hits something".
  • Hangar Capacity - The Aether BD-55 was designed with an expansive hangar bay that permits these craft to carry a full Starfighter Wing organized into three squadrons.
  • Pulse Mass Mines - These specialized munitions emit an effect similar to that of a Gravity Well Projector, making them indispensable in protecting the major and vital infrastructure important to the ongoing efforts of Aether Systems. Due to this, each of these vessels is outfitted with multiple generator tubes to deploy these weapons during an engagement.
WEAKNESSES
  • Sublight Drive Systems - Due to retaining the design aspects and aesthetics of its predecessors, these vessels have inherited the unfortunate flaws and drawbacks present in the original designs. As such, the Drive Systems of the BD-55 can be easily damaged, potentially crippling these vessels.
  • Low Maneuverability - These craft were not designed as a fast-attack vessel, nor was the design focused on speed, resulting in a slower vessel that lacks the nimble maneuverability of similarly sized or specialized Cruisers.
  • Rotation Drive - The Aether BD-55 features upgraded capacitors and power regulation systems while also retaining the original rotational support struts and weapon systems of previous iterations. One such system is the rotation drives that line the outer hull, utilized to rotate between the myriad of weapon systems present on these craft, with damage to these drives resulting in the weapon systems becoming locked in place as the drive would become inoperable.
DESCRIPTION
The first iterations of Battle Dragons had been known to be the premier warships utilized by the Hapes Consortium and had protected the storied worlds of the Consortium for countless eons. It was this fame and the alliance between the Hapes and the Galactic Alliance that saw Aether Systems produce a new line of these Capital Ships, christened the GADF Battle Dragon, by adopting the designs and retrofitting older models. Much like the Aether SD-M05, it was the designers and engineers at Aether Systems who resurrected the old Battle Dragons from the original production files that had been recovered following the collapse of the Deep Core to the Galactic Alliance. As the design remained sound and required little in the means of updating, resulting in the Aether BD-55 being sent into immediate production alongside the Aether SD-M05. As the first iterations of these craft were designed and intended to be utilized en masse - lacking targeting systems - the production of these newer vessels is equipped with multiple advanced targeting systems to overcome that initial drawback.

Aether Systems retained the original design and aesthetics of these famed warships; however, this has also meant that these craft have inherited the flaws that are more difficult to eliminate without a full redesign of the vessel by stripping it down to its base components. Such a flaw can be seen in the central core, where the upper and lower saucer-shaped hulls connect, housing the primary sublight drive systems of the craft. Due to the location and the ease of access in approaching these systems, there is the potential for the system to be damaged, thus, in turn, crippling these vessels. Aether Systems ensured that these craft were equipped with the most advanced capacitors available on the market; however, they made the decision - both with this design and its predecessor - to retain the weapon rotation drives that are utilized in cycling weapon systems forward depending on the situation and what may be required. These drive systems, however, are prone to damage that can result in the weapon systems being locked in place, preventing them from operating at full efficiency. Much like its predecessor, the BD-55 is also capable of fielding a fighter wing - consisting of three squadrons - to assist with Anti-Starfighter screens or routine patrols when these vessels are deployed in such a capacity.

These vessels have had a long and impressive history of service across the Galaxy, from their first contact between the Hapes Consortium and the New Republic, to their deployment alongside the Galactic Alliance before it collapsed. With Aether Systems reintroducing these craft as the newest standard in the design of Battle Dragons, they have only recently been spotted alongside the Aether SD-M05 protecting the Corporate Worlds of Aether Systems. However, it is only a matter of time until these vessels are seen in the Galaxy at large.
