STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES (Required: 2 Weaknesses Minimum) :

+ Close Combat Expert: Selected from the cream of the Elite Stormtrooper Corps, Aelius was tutored extensively in the use of vibroblades, force pikes and the Echani martial arts. The raw ore of training was forged into the cold black steel of skill with years of hellish training regimens on Yinchorr and unceasing gladiatorial with fellow Royal Guard aspirants, each marvelous warriors in their own right, produced a humanoid tool of Imperial wraith and a formidable opponent in melee.
+ Imperial Training: In addition to close combat, Aelius was also educated in the use of blasters, explosives, espionage and piloting.
+ Force Augmentation: With harsh drilling and stamina, Aelius is able to channel the force to supplement his physical prowess, speed and endurance, along with basic grips and barriers as if second nature, with little need for focus and loss of energy.

- Lack of Indepth Force Training: While able to augment his combat skills, Palpatine deliberately designed to teach even his most loyal protectors just enough skill in the force as to not stroke independence or ambition. This results in Aelius completely failing to grasp the complexities of the Force and the inability to use it on any level other than a tool for basic utility and combat roles
- Man out of time: Being carbon-frozen for bordering on a millennium, Aelius is often ignorant of even the most basic information of the current goings on in the galaxy. In addition, he may often lack the ability to utilize new technology.
- Legacy of Endor: What does one do with a man with undying loyalty to a dead Empire?
- Long term carbon freezing: Aelius' long 'sleep' may manifest in unfortunate side effects, mental and physical....

APPEARANCE:

Aelius Varangian possesses an lean, well muscled, athletic build forged by years of hard training and combat. Standing at an well above average height for a human, the Sovereign Protector's most intimidating feature is not his impressive physique but a set of cold, gray eyes that betray both a seasoned caution, cunning and a single minded commitment to advancing the glory of his long dead Emperor. Though set with a strong jawline and well maintained stubble, Aelius could not be called conventionally attractive as several scars mar his features along with the slight crook of a nose broken multiple times.

BIOGRAPHY:

Aelius Varangian would be the son of Lucion Varangian, the General of the local militia of the Empress Teta and a minor aristocrat within it's noble hierarchy, and his wife, Alya Varangian. Lucion was a man of great drive and ambition, deliberately engineering his rise through the ranks of the local military with cunning and what can only be described as strokes of luck (little did Lucion know both he and his wife were mildly force sensitive, likely contributing to this.) Lucion would marry Alya, the daughter of a wealthy, but common-blooded industrialist. Viewed by the ruling aristocrats of the planet as bordering 'peasant'-blooded, this move further alienated him from high born society yet gave him the resources to propel himself to the rank of General in the local militia. A son, Aelius Varangian, would be born in 26 BBY, into a life of relative wealth.

At the outbreak of the Clone Wars in 22 BBY, Lucion rapidly managed to secure for himself a noteworthy position within the reformed Army of the Republic, ultimately coordinating several major offensives in the outer rim. Aelius would grow up, entranced by the holonet projections of victorious Clone Armies that seemed almost chivalrous in their knightly plasteel white armor. He would often march about with his father at the military headquarters, complete with a miniature officer's uniform tailor fit to his small, child frame. Pomp aside, he would learn much about warfare during these young years.

With the defeat of the Confederacy and the extermination of the Jedi 'traitors' in 19 BBY, the Clone Wars drew to a close. Lucion quickly threw his support behind the victorious Chancellor, now Emperor, Palpatine and in return was rewarded with the position of a prominent Moff. Thanks to a healthy dose of nepotism, Aelius was sent to the prestigious Corulag Academy for Stormtrooper officer training at the young age of seventeen. At nineteen, he would graduate after two years of grueling training.

A extremely motivated and glory hungry young officer, Aelius could be frequently seen on the front lines of insurrections, leading his platoons and companies to victory. Though effective, at times he could be too zealous, often leading to heavy casualties. Aelius himself, however, would always avoid death despite often taking the head of border line suicidal assaults on enemy positions. To his subordinates and comrades, his regular narrow avoidance of fatal shots and explosions seemed almost like a miracle. One senior officer would comment as such on the young officer: "If he [Aelius] was a wamprat in a small barrel, and you decided to fire a E-11 directly into said barrel, then you would be more kriffin' likely to have a shot ricochet off and kill you than him!" Little did even Aelius know, that his constant 'luck' was contributed directly by his strong, latent force potential.

This led to Aelius being both affectionately and derisively referred to as 'Wamprat' for the remainder of his career as a Stormtrooper.

At the age of twenty one, Aelius would eventually receive a light shrapnel wound to the thigh. Whilst in recovery in a field hospital, he was encountered by a member of the Inquistorius who happened to be in the area, searching for potential dissidents. Sensing this force potential, the Inquistor reviewed Aelius' records and decided to recommend him for Royal Guard training, which Aelius gladly accepted.

Life in the Royal Guard Academy on Yinchorr was far more difficult than Aelius could have ever estimated. Going through seemingly possible torture, live fire training and brutal wilderness survival assessments stretching out potentially months, Aelius was broken both physically and mentally and reforged into a tool of the Emperor. At some point, he befriended a fellow aspirant named Pert Berion during a sparring session. Later, the two of them would be pitted against each other in a fight in the Squall, the arena of the Academy. Initially Aelius was hesitant to fully commit to potentially killing one of his only friends, but once he discovered that the Emperor was personally attending the fight, he promptly disemboweled his comrade with a blunt, rusty survival knife.

After he graduated the Academy at the age of twenty five, he was promptly transferred to the Imperial Sovereign Protectors on account of his force sensitivity. Though his midi-chlorian count was very high for the Sovereign Protectors who typically were selected from those not too strong in the force, this did not change the deliberately limited training they received in regards to it's usage.

Over the years, Aelius would see the Death Star destroyed by Rebel 'terrorists' and undertake numerous mission for Emperor Palpatine. His first and only failure being a clash with a rogue Dark Jedi, which resulted in Aelius being force stunned and the Dark Jedi escaping. Despite this mistake, Aelius was selected along with a few of his battle brothers to be carbon frozen on an asteroid in the mid-rim as part of a contingency back up force in case of rebel victory, or worse, the Emperor's death. Placed into suspended animation a year before the Battle of Endor, even the grasp of the reborn Emperor escaped his sleeping guardians and thus, the slumbering Imperials rested for centuries..

Now, scavengers discover an asteroid with a motherlode of valuable artifacts and technology. Little do they know, they awaken an ancient warrior and take him from his galaxy of sleek order and efficiency into foreign and hostile, one consumed by strife and... Chaos.

Aelius, suffering heavily from hiberation sickness induced blindness managed to slay the intruders. Discovering that his carbon freezed comrades were all dead (as far as he could tell from a quick glance) from various damages rendered by the scavengers, he swore to avenge them and after gathering his equipment, commandeered the scavenger's freighter. The Imperial Sovereign Protector charted a course for Byss, only to find the destroyed ruins of the planet. Confused, he next jumped to the Essoian system on a idle whim. Soon after, he would encounter a Star Destroyer of Darth Mephirium. Mephirium recognized the use in this Guardsman however, and decided to ordered him abroad his Star Destroyer. There, Mephirium would explain the destruction of the Galactic Empire and Palpatine hundreds of years ago. Initially shocked beyond belief, Aelius was swayed by Mephirium's vision of a renewed, Galaxy spanning Sith Empire. He bent the knee, swearing fealty to 'Emperor Mephirium' and was in turn, named Captain of a renewed Royal Guard.
