Strengths:
  • The Mainstay: An enduring but still formidable design, the Adamant is something of a jack-of-all trades ship, able to perform nearly any role in a pinch.
Weaknesses:
  • No Nukes: The launchers on the Adamant have limited shielding compared to later designs. They are simply not rated to carry the lethal Genie Nuke.
  • Master of None: A versatile design leaves the Adamant lacking any real specialization.
  • Hardpoints: Common to most Lakonian ships, packing a lot of firepower into a few weapon emplacements makes individual shots a lot more deadly, but also renders the ship vulnerable to being disarmed by pinpoint strikes.

DESCRIPTION
The Adamant-class Destroyer (designated a frigate in the Anaxes War College system) is just as prevalent in the space around as the trinary star system as the Manticore Corvette. However unlike the Manticore the Adamant-class is durable and committed combatant, able to stay in a fight for extended periods due to its durability, and with a wide range of capabilities.

The Adamant is armed in the style of all Lakonian ships, with a small number of high powered Kinetic guns, and a set of missile tubes. An older design, the Adamant has a comparatively small number of missile launchers and tends to use the weapons in a support role, relying instead on its built in hanger and impressive broadside batteries. Deployed individually, the ships are best utilized in a line role, but when deployed alongside Manticore Corvettes, they perform admirably as the Anvil to the manticore's hammer.

The point defense suite on the Adamant is respectable but not spectacular, a nod to the notion that the ship should be capable of supporting itself, but it is not designed as an 'escort' per se. In fact, Colonial Fleet doctrine doesn't have a dedicated escort ship at all, relying on strikecraft for the role.

The typical missile loadout for an Adamant has fewer 46C Lancers than on most other ships, and greater emphasis is placed on the 9B PCM and 84A Wavers for use to support other ships and strikecraft attacks. Adamant's do not have the same issues with resupply that Manticores suffer from, but they are actually incapable of supporting the Genie Nuke onboard.

Adamant Destroyers are designated according to a standard system. DD (the standard Lakonian hull designator for Destroyer) followed by a letter designator for the planet of origin, and then a three digit number. For example, DD-T738 (a Thessalian ship). Adamant destroyers are named after fallen military personnel, a list of names that Lakonia, with tens of thosuands of years of conflict in its history, is never short of.
