PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
| Lean, athletic; conditioned for speed and flexibility, through active running and dancing. Not physically imposing but looks like he can handle himself if he needed to. Adabasther dresses with the care of someone who appreciates excellent craftsmanship and can comfortably afford it. Tailored suits, fine shirts worn without a tie, polished footwear, and discreet accessories form his everyday wardrobe. Even his practical clothing fits impeccably. He has a dancer's physique: lean muscle, flexible joints, and excellent posture. His movements are economical and assured, with little wasted effort. Short, carefully maintained hair and light stubble frame a handsome, expressive face. His most distinctive feature is his smile. Usually small and slightly crooked, it suggests he has noticed something amusing and is deciding whether to share it. Adabasther is an accomplished dancer who genuinely enjoys the activity. He is comfortable leading a partner, adapting to unfamiliar music, and spending an evening on the floor. The physical benefits have proven useful professionally, although defeating a security system still requires understanding its operation. He is proficient with blasters, familiar with military procedures, and capable of basic self-defense. Whenever possible, he creates distance and leaves before a confrontation develops into a fight. He studies architecture, provenance, and security arrangements with considerable care. He hires specialists when a task exceeds his knowledge and pays them well. Expertise impresses him; pretending to possess it does not. He favors discreet tools and dependable equipment. Anything carried into a job should have a clear purpose—and fit beneath a well-tailored jacket. |

PERSONALITY AND BELIEFS
Adabasther is sociable, attentive, and difficult to hurry. He enjoys good company and takes a sincere interest in the people around him, whether they own the establishment or serve its drinks. He remembers names, listens to answers, and understands the value of letting someone finish a story.
His wit is quick but rarely cutting. He enjoys an elegant observation, an unexpected turn of phrase, and a joke that everyone present can appreciate. He can laugh at himself, particularly when someone has earned the privilege of catching him off guard.
Confidence comes easily to him. He trusts his preparation and abilities, and he has survived enough mistakes to know that an evening can usually be salvaged. Under pressure, his manner often becomes quieter and more deliberate.
Comfort has done little to diminish his appetite for adventure. He likes difficult problems, guarded places, and objects with histories that resist explanation. A fortune allows him to pursue these interests selectively. Unfortunately, his judgment becomes less selective when someone assures him that a particular undertaking is impossible.
He is generous with friends and appreciates capable partners. Trust develops slowly; once established, it matters considerably more to him than the value of a job.
BELIEFS
Courtesy matters. Adabasther considers good manners a basic obligation. He sees little merit in humiliating someone simply because he has the opportunity.Promises carry weight. He chooses his commitments carefully and expects to honor them. Deception comes readily during a theft; breaking his word to a trusted partner is another matter.
Violence is costly. Injured people, grieving families, and frightened witnesses are consequences he has no desire to leave behind. He prefers jobs that can be completed through preparation, misdirection, and a clean departure.
Possession does not settle every question of ownership. He has particular sympathy for recovering objects obtained through coercion or plunder. He also recognizes that this reasoning becomes suspiciously convenient whenever he wants something badly enough.
Wealth should provide freedom. His investments support a comfortable life and the ability to refuse work. He sees little purpose in having a fortune if maintaining it consumes every waking hour.
STRENGTHS
- Social intelligence: He reads changes in tone, confidence, and attention well. He is particularly adept at recognizing what someone wants from a conversation.
- Planning and misdirection: Academy instruction and practical experience have taught him to study routines, anticipate responses, and prepare several ways out.
- Speed and agility: He runs fast and moves confidently through confined or awkward spaces. Dancing has developed his balance, flexibility, timing, and precise foot placement.
- Exceptional piloting: He has a fine sense of distance, momentum, and his craft's limits. He excels at difficult approaches and demanding escapes.
- Physical resilience: He can absorb a hard hit and remain functional. Pain seldom immediately disrupts his concentration.
- Financial resources: His established fortune funds equipment, travel, research, and reliable assistance. He can afford patience when he chooses to exercise it.
WEAKNESSES
- Compulsive curiosity: An unanswered question can keep him involved long after the sensible moment to leave.
- Selective impatience: He will spend weeks preparing his own operation, then struggle to tolerate an afternoon delayed by someone else's indecision.
- Limited fighting ability: He has basic defensive training and can use a blaster competently, but a skilled combatant presents a serious problem.
- Usually unarmed: He prefers to leave a blaster behind. When an escape route fails, that preference can severely restrict his options.
- Overconfidence in his endurance: Remaining functional after an injury sometimes convinces him that he can afford another risk. His body eventually disagrees.
- A recognizable lifestyle: His clothes, tastes, and social connections make him memorable. Maintaining anonymity requires deliberate effort.
- Ethical blind spots: He is better at identifying other people's questionable motives than examining his own. The thrill of an acquisition can make his principles surprisingly negotiable
Born on Carida, Adabasther grew up surrounded by the expectation that discipline and useful service would lead to a respectable future. He possessed the intelligence and physical aptitude to pursue that future, eventually enrolling in the planet's war academy. His performance was promising. He took readily to flight instruction, reconnaissance exercises, and operational planning. He understood how procedures supported security, how supplies shaped decisions, and how a convincing display of authority could influence people. His enthusiasm for academy life faded as those lessons became increasingly entangled with repetition, hierarchy, and waiting.
Adabasther later described the process as "slow and uneventful."
He departed before completing his military career and spent the following years traveling, making connections, and discovering that the skills he had acquired were useful in rather different professions. Early ventures were modest: discreet recoveries, disputed valuables, and opportunities requiring someone who could enter a room confidently and leave without attracting immediate concern.
Then came the artifact.
Its origin was extraordinarily rare, its provenance incomplete, and its acquisition accomplished through what Adabasther continues to call "necessary means." He arranged a private sale to a buyer capable of appreciating its significance—and paying accordingly.
That transaction established his fortune. Careful investments transformed a spectacular payment into lasting wealth. Today, Adabasther maintains the public life of a private investor and collector. He attends receptions, travels comfortably, supports causes that interest him, and occasionally disappears on business whose details remain politely vague. He could retire from theft whenever he wishes.
So far, nothing has persuaded him to wish it.
