DESCRIPTION

You stand at the floor of a Wroshyr forest, confident your Wookie allies have the treetops secured. You had faith in them, so maybe that’s why their dying screams caught you off guard- howls of pain and terror punctuated by frantic bowcaster fire. You can’t see anything. It’s too dark. But there’s just enough light for you to make out the silhouettes of your former friends as their broken corpses, one by one, fall to the forest floor. The air is filled with unceremonious thumps as fur-covered sacks of shattered bones and punctured organs impact the ground.

Overcome with terror, you almost didn’t realize when it had stopped.

But then one of them landed in front of you. Not a Wookie. Some kind of droid, but you’d never seen anything like it. Its brazen white armor was riddled with scorch marks and bullet holes. The last acts of defiance from the Wookies that had been here with you. The automaton was hunched over, leaning on its knuckles like some sort of ape. The gore-stained machine regards you closely for a few moments; a single burning red photoreceptor scanning ever fiber of your physical being.

You’re paralyzed. Dumbstruck. Over the sound of your heart getting ready to burst out of your chest, you realize it’s speaking to you in Trandoshan. Whatever it said, it wasted no time after that. Repulsorlifts built into the droid launched it off the ground, then the jump pack also integrated into the machine carried it the rest of the way. The machine vanished into the treetops and back beyond your vision.

It wasn’t until you entered hyperspace and left Kashyyyk far behind that you breathed easily again.

The A2 Jungle Droid, the second specialty droid of the Akatosh product series to be produced, is one of the more eccentric droids to hit the market. Combining an unorthodox style of combat with an even more bizarre design, one can only imagine what could possibly prompt Hegemonic Automaton to release a droid for such a specific niche of combat.

Heavily armored, the A2 relies on swinging from sturdy tree limbs and an assortment of technology to keep itself mobile. Four repulsors fitted to key areas on its being allowed it to leap abnormally high for a droid of its size and weight. A jump pack fitted to its back enables it to fly upwards of twenty meters up and through the air. Specially mechanized joints and reinforced metals allow the A2 to generally survive these landings, provided it does so on its feet.

In combat, the A2 does not employ any projectile weapons or blades. The A2 was designed with the singular combat technique of flying through the air, landing on the target, and then pummeling it to death if it somehow survived. Repulsor generators fitted on the mechanical beasts’ arms allow it to swing punches with enough intensity to rupture durasteel and outright shatter duracrete. The A2 is densely armored in key areas with reinforced dura-armor, making it capable of withstanding a great deal of punishment. This isn’t to say its invincible, as enough unarmored areas are exposed that most medium weapons can make short work of it if they are aimed properly.

But that’s generally hard to do when over two hundred kilograms of fully automated excellence are descending upon you from the heavens at maximum velocity.

Shock tactics, ambushes, and guerrilla warfare are generally the best usages of the A2. In the treetops of jungle planets, or even densely packed urban centers, the A2 has no rivals for close quarters combat. If in open terrain, it’s mostly a liability.

Hegemonic Automaton geared the A2 up with standard attachments for Hegemonic Automaton products. Sensors, gyroscopic stabilizers, scanners, and so forth. It’s also the first line of droid to be equipped with the Neuro-Saav K-65 targeting system and the Neurocoat Everlast from the Neuro-Saav Corporation.

A2 Droids that achieve sapience tend to live leisurely lives after abandoning their owners. They spend most of their days relaxing, basking in the sun for whatever reason. It’s speculated a programming glitch causes sapient variants to derive “pleasure” from having their external plates become heated, though this hasn’t been confirmed. They form loose communities of tribes, largely for social purposes, and generally keep peacefully to themselves.

Hegemonic Automaton is not responsible for the actions of A2 Droids that achieve sapience.
