Strengths:
- Legendarily Resiliant: The A/Z-95 is incredibly tough, while sacrificing little in the way of agility or firepower from it's predecessor. Granted it wasn't exceptional in that regard in the first place, but it's a durable little fighter that can hold its own.
- The Baseline: Legendary Headhunter resilience aside, there's not too much special about the new Z-95.
DESCRIPTION
If one wants to protect the great trade lanes of the galaxy, at some point they will realize that the best way to do it is to have a highly mobile, low-supply strike force that can be deployed and operate independent of embedded support structures. In modern space warfare, that means snubfighters. The A/Z-95-MP4 (Advanced) Headhunter is the first major effort of the Mara-Perlemian Trade Council to create a hyperspace capable fighter that will become the shining beacon of safety and security.
Based off the venerable but still surprisingly effective design of the classic Z-95, the A/Z-95 holds true to what the relic did well and makes little effort to expand beyond that. This is not totally intentional, much to the surprise of the engineers and researchers employed by the MPTC, even with modern technology it proved extraordinarily difficult to make the fighter any more durable or tough than its predecessors.
What could be improved was power generation (by utilizing a proprietary LP-series Solar Ionization Reactor) and weapon systems. With shielding kept at normal levels extra power could be diverted to weapons, most notably vastly improved laser cannons and a single fuselage mounted retractable Ion Cannon, giving the fighter a non-lethal option for police and security work. While these weapon systems are powerful, the fighter suffers from being envisioned in multiple roles, and would struggle against a dedicated dogfighter.
As with most snubfighters, the advanced Headhunter carries a hyperdrive but lacks the advance navicomputers necessary to make complex or long-distance jumps. Either a pilot must memorize the routes (which is dicey) or an Astromech Droid is carried to act in that role. MPTC Headhunters come with the droid as standard, though in a minor change the droid is concealed in an internal compartment rather than being exposed.
Sleeker and more refined perhaps, than its ancestor, the A/Z-95-MP4 holds true to the old while polishing around the edges, to make a quality mass production fighter.
After many years in MPTC service, the plans for the A/Z-95-MP4 were leaked, and the fighter has subsequently been seen in use across the galaxy as a replacement for the more venerable Z-95. It also sees regular use by the Sanctuary Systems Liberation Army in the Unknown Regions.
