Strengths & Weaknesses

(+) Ordnance Versatility: True to its classification, this vessel is equipped with a plethora of armaments to get the job done. In particular, the "Caracara" enjoys the option of utilizing three types of explosive ordnance; with each being characterized by varying roles and ranges. This selection grants exceptional versatility, for the vessel can be effectively deployed against a wide variety of targets.

(-) Fire Rate: Although armed with an exceptional assortment of armaments, each weapon is characterized by a key "flaw." While each packs a punch, both the cannons and explosive ordnance have slow rates of fire. As such, scoring consistent blows against quicker targets is a task of pronounced difficulty.

Description

Whilst entrenched in the fires of war, there will come times when blasters just aren't enough. Sometimes, a situation will call for assistance of the explosive kind. Taking this reality to heart, the design teams of Arakyd Industries created a new starship specifically to fulfill the niche of "fire support." Dubbed the A/Y-91 "Caracara" Strike Fighter, this vessel is characterized by a focus on ordnance above all else.

Armed with a trio of explosive launchers, and backed by heavy laser cannons, the Caracara is thoroughly equipped to offer support in a wide variety of theaters. Its Light Energy Torpedos grant it the ability to fire upon enemy targets from a long distance, whilst its Proton Torpedo Launcher allows it to effectively engage targets from close to moderate ranges. Furthermore, the Caracara is fitted with a bomb bay, allowing it to engage targets while simply flying overhead.

Outside of this assortment of armaments, the Caracara is rather "normal" in build. Its stature permits a sub-standard squadron of nine, whilst its overall composition and other features are relatively standard. As a whole, this vessel was born to provide support to troops, starfighter screens, and general operations with an explosive assist from above.

Good sub!

Having a think about the balance of bombardment of light energy torpedoes from lots of these. I guess we'll have to see in a real fleet battle to see if it is balanced!

There needs to be another weakness for a squadron count of 9, this would typically be 6. This is just as well armed and shielded as a typically gunship, with nothing to balance out this size?
