A World of Coincidence [Cemas]

Jyn had always been a knowledge-focused individual; she enjoyed learning new things, and was a natural philosophizer. Yet the past few months of intense study had surprised even her. Never had she put so much effort into anything the way she had researching the Je'daii Order. At first it had seemed odd, nothing clicked or made sense, yet over time her understanding had deepened and it was as if, in a solid flash of light, she had grasped it overnight.

While there was no doubt that she still had a lot to learn, Jyn felt confident that she was taking the right route with her life. A clever HRD had once told her that she had to live for herself, and have no Master. That had meant taking the reigns, and with it owning responsibility for her actions... Or lack thereof. While this new philosophy she chose to live by was in many ways freeing, it also forced her into maturity. There was nobody around to teach her, to feed and clothe her. Jyn had to be her own Master, her own Mother, her own Father.

And that meant finding ways to make money.

Still having a hold full of cargo within the ship she had acquired, Jyn had traveled to a busy hub of activity, known as Lianna, in hopes of selling off some of the technology and wares that still remained.

Hopefully someone would take the bait; perhaps with the money she would make, Jyn could begin building towards the future of the Je'daii Order.

Trade hubs, they were all the same no matter which planet you went to really. For every single honest merchant there were ten trying to cheat you and five more just outright trying to steal from you, and the more legit they looked the dirtier they got. Settling his eyes on one particular merchant the ex-cop just shook his head and took a bite of his apple. The crisp snapping sound was nearly as satisfying as the taste of fruit, but his attention was focused on the odd member of the pack. She was either a young player who had learned the hard way young, or about to be robbed. It was a simple universe to Cemas, filled with a ton of a grey but everything ended up in little black and white areas in the end.

Sauntering over to a nearby vendor he leaned against the wall watching to see how she handled herself with her first customer, an older humanoid. His concentration wasn't broken by the hissing voice of the merchant behind him. "If you're going to stand there buy something, my shop isn't for hanging around."

Turning his head he stared the man in his face, an unwavering look that simply said this discussion wasn't going anywhere for the merchant. Taking out a single coin Cemas flicked it towards the man's counter space. Nodding towards it he moved his head back towards the girl, show time.

As she stood there, nervously glancing over the stall she had rented for the afternoon, Jyn felt an acute prickle of her senses that suggested someone was watching. Being that she was good at hiding her true intentions by this point, fate forced her hand in that regard, she made certain not to make it obvious as she turned and scanned the market. Everyone was busy, moving, stocking, selling... Everybody except one lone male stood against a stall.

Frowning slightly she instead continued to move her gaze, not giving him any longer than she had the others who came under her view. Her thoughts were interrupted by an elderly patron who had sauntered up to her stall, picked up one of the many technological trinkets and stared down at it. "I'll give you a hundred for this, and two if you throw in one of those." His nod fell to a small stash of commlinks that had been held back, the crate near her feet. Honestly, Jyn hadn't thought anyone would show interest in the comms and datapads. They seemed too.. Trivial.

Well, she had no idea what it was the man was buying, she wasn't one for technology, but mentally shrugging she instead gave the man a clear nod and swooped down one hand to swipe one of the comms from the crate. "Two hundred it is" she said, without question. To some it may have been a steal, but Jyn didn't care. The man grinned knowingly, before releasing several credit chips from his person. "I might just be back" he smoothly purred under his breath as he turned and left with his treasures.

Jyn simply pocketed the credits. If he was to return he'd likely buyout her stock, which meant she could be back in space in no time. The thought was comforting.

Looking out silently over the exchange Cemas grinned as he bit into his apple, the smile on buyer's face told a story, but so did the look on the girls. Both looked a little too pleased at the interaction. Either she was being robbed and didn't know it, or he'd bought some bad goods and didn't know it. Slowly tapping out a finger on the counter as he hedged his bets towards the girl losing out badly he took another bite before pushing away from the counter. Time to find out what a kid was doing with a ship full of cargo and no business sense.

With a casual pace the man took in a few shops as he passed no real attention, and in more truth interested in the people then the goods themselves. Their interactions were even more interesting, a habit made by professional habit if nothing else. Glancing over her goods as he got closer he moved his eyes to her and simply stared as he approached a half cocked grin on his face as he did. Stopping a few paces away he looked around disinterestedly. "Sooo, what do we have here? A half starved looking thing with about a ship full of cargo." Moving around her slowly his eyes disinterestedly gazed over her goods. "So what are we hawking? Random bits? How much for the lot of it?"

From the corner of her eye she watched his approach, while feigning a busy air about herself. He had been stood there for quite some time, which meant that he wasn't actually interested in buying anything. Hopefully he wouldn't cause her any issues. When he stopped at her stall and made a snide comment the girl turned a glare toward him; as he circled her and the goods she turned to keep her gaze upon him. He was questioning her merchandise without knowing what it was, which aggravated her more than his verbal observation.

"Datapads, Commlinks, other bits and pieces... But I don't sell in bulk" she smoothly lied; in truth she would give anything to trade it all in for a couple of thousand credits and be done with it. After all, she already had a ship - the goods it had contained were just a little bonus. The young girl backed up a little into the cover of the stall and from there observed the man with distrust.

Laughing a bit he stopped dead and tilted his head towards her, "You don't deal in bulk eh? An odd thing for a trader in bits and pieces." Picking up a few pieces he rolled them over in his hands glancing over serial numbers and the like. The chance she was selling illegal goods were decent, she didn't seem to know the worth, and was a bit too nervous. The question then was how illegal was it, fake goods, or more likely just stolen goods. Almost negligently laying them back he turned to her, "Where did you pick this all up? I'm guessing you just hijacked a ship and are selling it dry to move on to the next point."

Placing his heavy boot on one of the crates he leaned in on it and grinned at her shaking his head. "I'm guessing you don't even know what you've stolen, just a kid trying to unload it as quick as possible. Bet you're ship would come up flagged as stolen which is why you came to this shitty little station. That and not enough security to realize you didn't pay for your stall. Everyone likes their percent."

@Snowflake

All of the serial numbers were in tact, not that it would matter. For all the rest of the Galaxy knew the previous owner of the goods was still travelling across space, of course Jyn knew that to be otherwise. The quality was decent too, definitely not fake goods. By this point in time the young girl was used to being under pressure, Force knew she'd been put through enough. As a result she showed no outward sign to having been caught red handed and instead shrugged.

"I'm just helping out my old man, Sir," she informed him, "He's sick, and there ain't no one else around to keep up the trade." The stall had been paid for fairly, although the lack of security had been useful in her acquiring it in the first place. She met his gaze and held it without worry, let him think what he wished, before he could prove anything she would already be long gone. After all, it was almost time for the stalls to close for the night. She had made almost five hundred credits, not much all things considered but enough to suffice for now.

He was curious to press a bit harder, running the registration number on her 'old man's' ship would have clinched it one way or the other. Truth be told though he didn't really care enough to press the issue. He'd mostly been curious as to who was getting robbed, that and a little worry over a kid in over her head. With a shrug he leaned back against the counter and nodded with a full grin. "So you're busy helping mind shop eh? Curious that you just denied a bulk sale after making one."

Walking off with a saunter he'd made a few paces before half turning his head. "By my bet, if that ship leaves this station without you there isn't a damn thing you can do about it. With a smirk he headed off towards the docks without another word. If he was right, the whole thing would spell itself out in the next few minutes.

"He didn't buy in bulk" she said, watching the stranger as he first grinned and then began to wander away from the stall. What he said next left a clenching feeling in her chest. He wouldn't, would he? Could she risk closing up early just to make sure? Then again, how would he even know which ship was hers? Jyn had always been a paranoid individual, but this was a whole other level of crazy. She needed that ship, she could not risk losing it to some sarcastic bastard in the marketplace.

When he disappeared she panicked. The next few patrons got quite the deal as she tried to shift off her remaining wares as quickly as possible. Not even bothering to try and tally up the grand total she took what remained and hurried on through the marketplace to try and locate her ship. Force help him if he actually took it... Or perhaps it was more Force help her. She definitely didn't have the credits for a new ship!
