A Wedding On Retalik: Take Two (Jak Sandrow)

Jak Sandrow

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
Bad joke... bad joke... Jak was mentally kicking himself. Should have just kept it simple...

Thankfully they had arrived at the main part of the city, and Jak smiled to Leyan. "Let's go!"

Leyan got out of the taxi with Jak. The platforms seemed to be made of the same wood as the trees. She couldn't keep her eyes in one place, looking everywhere. she even felt the urge to touch everything, but she restrained herself.

"So long as there's water, I guess I could eat."
Leyan hadn't really eaten anything since she'd been with Jak. But she never ate much anyway.

"A typical Theowei diet consists of mostly water. But we do include some solid food every once in a while."
[member="Jak Sandrow"]

Leyan shrugged.
"That's how it's been for over three thousand years on Retalik. the solid food is usually consumed on special occasions. I think visiting my first planet away from home qualifies as such."

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
"And I'll drink to that," Jak grinned, steering them to a likely location.

There they found seats, and Jak ordered a large, sweet drink. "Water for you? Or do you want something else?"

Leyan looked around a bit nervously. There were Wookiees in here. They were huge. The way they were speaking sounded like roaring. It must be a very difficult language for outsiders to master. She turned back to the bar.
"Y-yes. Just water, please..."
Whatever Jak had, it smelled sickeningly sweet.

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
Jak took one sip, and, blinking, blew out a long breath. "Whoo!!! Forgot how strong they have it here.... I'll have a water as well. And one nerf steak - Corellian-spiced."

He turned back to Leyan. "So.... first impressions of the outside world?"

[member="Leyan Viceritas"]

"It's... More than I ever thought possible."
Leyan accepted her water from the very tall Wookiee behind the bar counter. She sipped it, eyeing Jak's steak. Maybe she should get some sweet-tasting fruit. But she didn't even know if they had anything like that here.

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
"What did you think was possible?"

Jak cut into his steak, nodding at the correct spiciness. "They can serve a steak here that would fry the gills of a Mon Cal," he remarked with a smile... which dropped when he saw she didn't get it. "Never mind."

[member="Leyan Viceritas"]

Leyan looked down at the water in her glass.
"I didn't know there was... so much. I assumed there were one or two other worlds similar to my own. I didn't think there'd be and entire galaxy full of life."
She kind of half-way cocked a brow at Jak when he tried to tell her something like a joke.
"Mon Cal?"

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
"You ain't seen nothing yet." He grinned. "There are whole planets dedicated to technology. Actually... you wouldn't like them much."

"A Mon Calamari," he continued, "is a humanoid sentient that bears organs and appearances resembling that of aquatic animals. That boils down to: They look like fish."

He was really enjoying his steak; he hadn't had food this good in years. Processed canned food absolutely never tasted as good as the real thing.

"It's a waste to dedicate your entire home to something so temporary as technology. But it does sound interesting to see."
Leyan sipped some more of her water.
"Fish-like people? This just keeps getting harder and harder to believe..."

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
"Technology evolves as fast as we do," Jak murmured, remembering back to the Omni/Clockwork invasion of Fondor, where he had lost a hand.

"And Mon Cals are regular-looking people."

Leyan finished her water. She sat the glass back on the bar and started looking around at the other patrons. There was a creature with big, buggy eyes and what looked like a bunch or little tendrils on his head along with a round tube-like mouth. She tried not to stare at it too long before turning back to the bar.

Jak Sandrow

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
Jak caught her stare, even if the other guy didn't. He murmured quietly - because a whisper is louder than a murmur - "That is a Rodian, from the planet Rodia. You're just as strange to him as he is to you."

[member="Leyan Viceritas"]

Leyan leaned her head on her hand, staring down at the wood on the bar.
"I'm never going to remember all of the species you tell me about, am I?"
