A Wedding On Retalik: Take Two (Jak Sandrow)

The temple was nearly overcrowded for the ceremony. Just under 1,000 people, both Theowei and foreigners alike, were invited to bear witness to the event. King Toreyl waited patiently at the carved oaken alter underneath the massive budding tree that served as the temple's roof. Today was a special day for all of Crovhana. Today was they day that they would receive a new queen.
Toreyl had been so ecstatic about the event that he had paid a large sum of money to invite all manner of foreign aristocrats, politicians, celebrities, and even some Jedi. He wanted everyone to come to this. He wanted everyone to know that he was king, and that he was about to get a queen.
Finally, the moment had arrived. The priest motioned for everyone to rise, and the doors to the temple slowly opened. As a small choir began to sing an ancient Theowei matrimony hymn, the future queen began slowly walking toward the alter.
Her dress was full and billowy, so silver and shiny that it almost looked like water. Her long silvery-green hair was loosely gathered in a layered bun with strands coming down to her neck. Blue flowers were arranged in her hair along with diamonds, making her bright blue eyes become that much more vibrant. Around her neck was a necklace with a glowing blue stone. She walked almost heavily. Her face was not radiant and glowing as a bride's should be. Instead, it was somber and crestfallen as she reached the end of the isle.
Toreyl took her hand, and the ceremony began.
**********************
It was just a little bit after sunset when the reception began. The music was lively and jovial as the guests conversed and danced and ate, congratulating the newlyweds and presenting them with gifts. Toreyl seemed absolutely overjoyed. But his new wife still seemed extremely depressed. Finally, she rose from her seat and whispered something in her husband's ear. He nodded and waved her away, allowing her to walk out of the massive room.
***********************
Leyan had very little time. Toreyl had believed her need to go to her room and retrieve her handbag. That meant that she only had ten minutes before he sent guards to find her. She practically raced down the corridors, making sure to keep as quiet as she possibly could in case anyone was still around. It wasn't long until she finally made it to her chambers. She didn't even glance around her large bedroom as she walked directly toward the doors to the balcony.
Leyan threw them open, letting the cool night air engulf her room. Slowly, she stepped out onto the balcony and looked out into the early night sky. All of Crovhana was celebrating the marriage. Thousands of orange lanterns floated through the city, lighting up the darkness. It was a beautiful sight. Leyan was happy that it would be the last thing she remembered.
She removed her shoes. Carefully, she climbed up onto the balcony railing, and stood there for a moment. She took several deep breaths. This moment. This moment was the last thing she ever wanted to remember. The orange lanterns in the city, and the sounds of celebration in the distance. It was a peaceful feeling. She felt as if a weight was being lifted from her shoulders. At long last, she would never feel this pain again.
Leyan closed her eyes, and leaned forward...

Jak Sandrow

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
Jak was not entirely sure what had drawn him to Retalik; according to some records he had managed to dig up, the planet was primitive like nothing he had ever seen or heard of before. For feth's sake, they didn't even have slugthrowers!!

Nevertheless, this ended up being a boon to him, as he was able to land his el cheapo ship without detection. Also, suspecting that no one here had ever seen a gun before, he kept his weapons in his ship, save for a long, thin knife, which slipped into his sleeve without so much as a whisper.

Disembarking, he locked up his ship, just in case any of the natives wanted to take a joyride. Slipping into his green, Force-sensitive coloration, he inhaled deeply of the nature so prevalent around him. Yet, as soothing as the forest felt to his plant self, he couldn't help feeling a sense that it was... off. He couldn't explain it if he tried, it just felt off. Strange. Like a puzzle piece that doesn't fit right.

Closing his eyes, he opened his Force presence to the world, let it ebb and flow over him... and felt the pull again, much stronger and clearer now. Opening his eyes again, he strode forward, the forest gently parting to let him through, and melting back again as if he never was there.

---

As he entered the outskirts of the city, he stuck to the shadows, keeping out of sight. It wasn't like he was scared of them, it was just that the less attention to him, the better.

Stealing some local garb, he dressed in a local cloak, and pulled the hood up to his head, but not covering his face. He wanted to look normal, not conspicuous. He also didn't want to look like a Jedi. A good walk later, and he was in what must have been the main downtown. He wasn't sure if it was supposed to be this busy, but by the looks of things, there was a big celebration, so... Keeping his head down - not easy to do when you're 6' 7" - he made his way through the throngs of partygoers, and followed the pull of the Force.

---

Finally, he made his way into an alleyway almost right up next to the castle (the one that seemed to dominate the city). The pull of the Force yanked at him like someone pulling on his shirt... and then faded away. Somehow he knew that meant he had arrived where the Force wanted him to be, yet.... there was nothing here.

The dead-end alley was pleasantly wide; spaces on either sides of the buildings left room for about 6 people to walk next to each other, through it.

His examination ended prematurely, when he felt a slight disruption in the Force. Closing his eyes, he calmed himself and, reaching out through the ground, through nature, he tried to isolate the 'signal', for that was what he felt it was like.

... it was coming from right above him.

Suddenly the Force screamed in his ears, and he looked up to see a body falling towards him.

He had never moved faster in his life before; his arms flung out, and great vines sprang from the ground, twisting and splitting to form a large bed, which caught the body gently, decelerating it safely.

Still moving, Jak rushed to the bed of vines, to find a woman, a girl, moaning in pain. Jak was confused... then his eyes widened as he saw bruises blossom all along her arms and back. Apparently the fall had still been too much for her younger body.

Swearing under his breath, he ran his hands through his hair, unsure as to what he should do. First instinct demanded he contact the authorities... but then again, how would that look? A man, standing over a little girl, while she lays on the ground, bruised and broken. ... Nah, it would be safer just to leave her here, let them find her on their own. Maybe leave a trail to follow to her.

As Jak started to leave the alley, the Force itself acted upon him, and he almost doubled over, a spike of pain rippling through his gut. Puzzled, he moved a little farther, and had pain, not as strong, but still very prevalent, zip through him again. He moved back to the girl... and the pain stopped completely.

I don't wanna kidnap a girl... Jak complained. And nevertheless, he picked her up delicately, trying not to hurt her more than she already was. Getting to the spot where he had hit the dirt in pain, he tensed... but there was nothing.

---

He headed back to the ship, staying on the outskirts of the town till he managed to reach the forest. The girl had awoken several times in his arms, and he had tried his best to assure her he meant no harm, but she would always sink back into unconsciousness at the last second. He had a horrible feeling that she might be dying.

Death hurt. At first, anyway. Leyan found herself swimming in a sea of black. Every few minutes, she'd open her eyes and see a forest moving in front of her. then it was back to the blackness. Was this her passing into the afterlife? Perhaps these glimpses were of paths she was supposed to choose from.
Finally, the black from before faded away. Slowly, her eyes opened. Where?.... Her entire back half ached, to the point where it almost hurt just to move a finger. No. No, this can't be happening. She was falling! Finally, she was going to be free!
Leyan stared upward as tears began to stream down her face.
"N-no....."
Her voice was small and pitiful. Just as she felt.

Jak Sandrow

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
Jak made his way through the forest, back to his ship, his heart going out to the crying girl.

... Little did he know he had just unwittingly kidnapped the queen of the planet.

Setting her down on the bed in his quarters, he made his way through the slightly cramped interior to his medical closet. It was sparsely furnished - his medicine was dirt, water, sunlight, and time - but there were small drugs, painkillers, some hypotoxin needles, and - ah, there it was. Sleeping pills.

Coming back to the bed, he tried to see if he could wake the girl. She couldn't have been older than 14, maybe 15... unless this species was smaller than the average human... maybe 16ish?

"Hey... uh... wake up..."

Leyan's senses fully returned to her. Her eyes rested on a man with green skin standing over her. She was so overwhelmed by grief and despair that she didn't even care where she was. She stared up at him with an expression close to that of a kicked puppy.
"Why..... Why didn't you let me die?"
She cried softly.

Jak Sandrow

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
Jak's heart almost broke at that. He didn't have an answer for that - at least, none the girl would understand.

"Listen," he continued, "you've got several bruises, maybe a fractured bone or three, and a multitudes of small cuts... I need to heal you, but I need to know how."

Leyan closed her eyes, weeping silently. That was her last chance....
She slowly moved her right arm to touch her left. She did her best to use what little knowledge she had with the Force to heal some of the cuts and bruises. She had no drive to do anything. But apparently her subconscious had other ideas.

Jak Sandrow

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
The Force stirred within the ship, and Jak looked around. He didn't do that... Then he saw the girl healing herself, and breathed a small sigh of relief. So she knew the Force? That... actually was a good thing.

Reaching out himself, he found her Force presence, small but stubborn, broken and bruised, yet with the power of a candle in a black room. And he attempted to do something he had never done before.

His powers gently reached out to meet hers, even as she reached out to heal herself. Simultaneously, he sat back in the ship, a good two meters away.

She would undoubtedly feel his presence... but he wanted to assure her he only meant her good.

Leyan could feel the physical pain begin to ebb away. But... It wasn't just in her arm that was being healed. She sniffled, taking a moment to look down at her other arm. It was healing too? She could never do that before. It.... It was her doing it, wasn't it? That was when she felt something odd. Like... she wasn't the only one in her head.
Leyan's eyes stared up at the ceiling, wide with fear and surprise. She continued to cry through this as well. She was just a mess.

Jak Sandrow

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
It wasn't done perfectly, Jak knew that. But... it seemed to be helping. He tried to make his force presence gentle and warm, but he just seemed to be scaring her more.

Nevertheless, he pressed on, letting her powers guide him to where she needed to be healed, to what was broken. He drew on the forest around them, letting the quiet, immense power of the forest gently trickle through her skin, fixing cuts and scrapes, healing bruises, replenishing cell after broken cell.

After what felt like days later, but was probably only hours, Jak breathed out deeply, letting the forest go, and withdrawing his force presence almost apologetically from the girl's cowering one.

He spoke again, from across the room. "I want to help you..."

Leyan's fear started to wane as time went by. Whoever this was, they weren't hurting her at all. They felt kind. Not only that, but she could feel herself being healed even though she wasn't even trying. She eventually stopped crying, resorting to staring up at the ceiling in a sad and calm manner.
The man from before spoke to her from across the room. She didn't turn to look at him when she responded.
"You can't..."

Jak Sandrow

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
This wasn't going anywhere good. Jak cleared his throat quietly. "Could, ah... could you tell me a bit about yourself, so I can understand, too?"

[member="Leyan Viceritas"]

Leyan was reluctant to say anything about herself. She didn't know this man. He'd kept her from "escaping", and taken her to an unfamiliar place. But he'd healed her. He didn't seem bad...
"My name is Leyan Viceritas. I was married today. To King... T-Toreyl..."
She could hardly stand to say the monster's name. Just thinking about him made her tear up again.

Jak Sandrow

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
Jak bowed his head a little. The girl was pouring out sadness in the Force, and the way her 'presence trembled when she said the name of the king answered the final question. "... you didn't want to be married to him..."

He pursed his lips a little. "I... my name is Jak... Jak Sandrow, and... I'm... a plant guy, basically."

[member="Leyan Viceritas"]

"I-I couldn't run.... I'm the only one who knows his secret. He's going to keep me like a trophy. He'll never let me leave...."
Leyan rolled onto her side, burying her face in her hands. She was sobbing so hard that she trembled.

Jak Sandrow

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
What the hell had this girl done to deserve this? Jak scooted a bit closer, reached out to gently comfort her, then pulled back as if burnt. ...probably wasn't a wise course of action...

"I... don't know what to say," he said slowly. Then it caught up to him.

The princess of the biggest city on the planet, probably the princess of the whole planet, was cooped up in his ship, in his sleeping area.

He hesitated, then spoke, mentally kicking himself for every word. "I... might be able to help you."

[member="Leyan Viceritas"]

Leyan wrung out her hands and curled up into a ball.
"H-how can you help me? Toreyl is probably looking for his new wife right now...."
She wouldn't get a second jump off her balcony. He would figure it out. He'd seal her away in a vault, only coming to visit her when he was in the mood to. How could she get away from this now?
[member="Jak Sandrow"]

Leyan thought for a moment. She didn't really remember how she got here to begin with. She slowly sat up, looking around. It wasn't anywhere in the palace that she remembered. Her eyes went to Jak again.
"Where did you bring me?"

Jak Sandrow

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
Jak lowered his gaze to the floor. "Have you ever been off Retalik? Or talked with someone from off Retalik? Or even heard of what is beyond the planet?"
