A Tourist in Familiar Space (PM for invite)

"Skuld...that's a funny one. I don't get much holo-mail, so that'll be easy to notice." Lori grinned to [member="Marriskcal Lati"] , already counting down the days to when she'll get her very first message from her. Would it be a funny message? Or all straight forward? Who knows! But Lori knew what her responses would be; all full of goofy pictures and jokes!

Lori clapped her hands together once and then rubbed them together before waggling her fingers at the fighter once permission was given. Oh boy was she excited! She placed her hands on the left wing first, and then glided them along the surface while she walked around the entire vessel and then ended her journey at the right wing. "It's so sleek and pretty in it's own way. Someday I'll get an upgrade, when I'm allowed." An idea came to her then. "Oh! We could totally race eachother and do mock dogfights!
It'll be wicked! And it'll be great training for the both of us!"

She stood in front of Marr now, though her eyes were up towards the cockpit. "Oh point away!
I wanna learn more in case I get to have one too!"

The idea appealed to her, especially when it involved the other girl who was close to her age. All her brothers and sisters were more experienced than she was, and though Marriskcal knew she should not compare herself to them, sometimes she could not help but feel a little left behind despite no one saying otherwise. It was like she was entering a race, only to discover that other racers has already started before she was even in the ready position. “I definitely like the sound of that.” For now, she had only experienced aerial battles in various simulations. “Having an opponent would definitely fire me up more!

At Lori’s statement, the youngling leaned forward against the viewports. “My TIE is built to go really fast in space, but because of that, it’s way way harder to control it when I enter the atmosphere. To counter that problem, they’ve included an emergency maneuvering thrusters into the design,” Marriskcal pointed at the stick beside the pilot seat. “This is just so in case I lose control and need to change direction while I’m in midflight.” It was non-automated and relied entirely on the skill of the pilot to right the vessel back. It was highly risky, as when the fighter lose control, it is hard to tell which direction one should aim for. But as it was designed specifically for use of the force users in the First Order, it was not considered an issue.

“Oh, let me tell you about the lasers! While my fighter isn’t considered heavily armed, it is capable of some serious firepower due to the stutter burst fire option. But due to its firing rate, the damage it can cause will decrease the longer I fire.” The youngling lifted her hand to its full height, roughly pointing in the direction the buttons at a panel which was taller than her. “I can set which lasers I want to do that from there. But of course, it means the lasers heat up faster than norm so I have to judge when and where to use it on.

Lori grinned broadly as [member="Marriskcal Lati"] seemed very keen on the idea of having a mock dogfight. "Of course I'll need to get a better fighter for it first.
But when I do....oh boy!! It'll be so awesome!!"

And now onto the TIE fighter. Lori paid attention like an eager student, all wide eyed with open ears. She soaked up all the info like a sponge.

Every vessel had it's pros and cons. If they were good at one thing, another skill was sacrificed. So it made sense that maneuverability wasn't the best for the TIE.

And then came the lasers. Given that her own training fighter didn't have any, she only knew the basics about them. "So...you could almpst catch your own fighter on fire if you use the lasers too much??" There was a lesson to learn there if it was true.

“Yes, if the systems overheat, there is a small chance of that happening. But it is more likely that it will just become unusable.” She pursed her lips thoughtfully as she stared up at her starfighter. “If you are unlucky, it may explode and take parts of your fighter out with it.” In her Silencer’s case, since the lasers were situated at the tips of each wing, if it explode, her vessel will probably careen out of control and crash. So it was especially important to the initiate that she was familiar with her TIE’s firing rate. It would be embarrassing if she was taken out of a battle because she was inexperienced when it came to handling her vessel.

The blonde leaned out of the shadows of the TIE Silencer, her eyes gauging the height of the sun. She only had roughly an hour left before she had to start her journey back to Lothal. From there, they would probably assign her to the mission to subjugate Elrood. Or at least, that is what her instructor has mentioned in the passing. Reluctantly, the youngling turned back to her friend, “If I want to get some tea leaves before I depart Bakura, I have to say goodbye to you here…” Despite her own wishes to stay, Marriskcal knew better than to disregard the time constraints she was given. “I’ll be sure to message you soonest.

Unuseable. That was interesting. Lori pictured herself piloting a fighter in some battle, mock or otherwise, only to have her weapons go offline due to overheating. Oh that'd be embarrassing! It could be deadly too.

Lori's attention was drawn out of her imaginings as [member="Marriskcal Lati"] let her know that it was time to leave. Her smile faded somewhat, yet she knew that her friend had a far more restricted lifestyle than she did. She nodded a little and then wrapped her arms around her in a warm hug. "Safe journeys. That's what we say on Commenor to our friends and family before they leave some place. It sorta brings good fortune or luck, if you believe in that sort of thing."

She then stepped back a little, the brightness in her personality appearing once again as she thought of the future. "I can't wait for our first adventure together! It'll be fun!"

Safe journeys, huh.

While Marriskcal was a creature seeped in logic and methodology, the youngling found she quite liked the idea that something as simple as those parting words was filled with some sort of meaning. In a way, it was the similar to the words her brothers and sisters exchanged before they left on an assignment – good hunting. It was based on the same sentiment. May you find your quarry and end their life swiftly, and return alive.

After an uncertain pause, the blonde drew her friend in for a hug, reveling in its warmth for the last time. It will probably be a long time before she received another. “S– Safe journeys, Lori. May your travels be swift and free of complications.” Though Marriskcal looked forward to having her first adventure with the first friend she made, she knew fate to be a fickle mistress. Who knew how long it would be? All she knew was that with the spot brightness that was Lori in her life, at least she had something to look forward to other than her relentless pursue of her ambition.

Me too. I’ll probably be daydreaming about the temples we’ll explore or the people we’ll save.
