Private A Surplus of Understanding

Calia Rook Calia Rook

"How did you first catch wind of the Morants all the way from Naboo?" she asked curiously as she surveyed the kitchen. There was nothing else to tidy up, so she wandered back into the lounge and took a seat on the armrest of her chair. "Special interest, or were you assigned?"

He thought back to the first sniff of corruption.

It had been an odd occurrence. Delay at the Naboo space port that had caused his ship to be late to a meeting with some of the other Jedi. It had annoyed him so, that he stuck his nose where it had not been expected. It had taken quick thinking and a swift hand to not allow the noises to reach all the way back to Denon.

But it had been the first time he came across the name Morant.

"Special interest." Evander said sheepishly, trying to figure out if the truth would only solidify her opinion of him as a snot-nosed nerf herder. Oh, yeah, I was aggravated that my landing was delayed, so I went to make some noise and stumbled across a smuggling operation.

In the end Evandr decided that the truth was more important than anything else.

Anything else would make him a hypocrite. So he continued, explaining how he had bulldozed his way into the supervisor's quarters, only to come across him being extorted by a few thugs. One thing led to another and-

"-and the Gamorrean led me to that warehouse on Denon. That is how we met."

"Unravelling a criminal syndicate because you were irate about a missed appointment," Calia mused aloud, shaking her head in scarcely-disguised amusement. "I'm somehow not surprised."

She stood up. "I need to take care of some business in the cockpit and run some inventory checks before I settle in for the night." She paused a moment, looking back toward the Jedi in the lounge. "You have the run of the ship, so make yourself comfortable. Come find me if you need anything." She glanced toward the cockpit. "Don't recommend asking the droid for anything. He's not terribly hospitable."

The Captain headed for the cockpit and settled herself down in her seat, where she began working through the backlog of maintenance recommendations from the self-diagnostics.
