PRODUCTION INFORMATION
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Ion Cannon
  • Size: Average
  • Weight: Heavy
  • Ammunition Type: Ion
  • Ammunition Capacity: Average
  • Effective Range: Average
  • Rate of Fire: High
  • Stopping Power: Average
  • Recoil: Average
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • A hardy weapon and difficult to disable or destroy for its size. All the materials used in the construction are sturdy, and the ionization buffer only adds to this.
  • Flexible to fit most ship sizes as well as structures
  • A Good rate of reliable fire for the battle.
  • Manual targeting possible if sensors or tracking systems are down, and an independent power cell on the base allows 30 minutes of fire even with no power.
STRENGTHS
  • Difficult to destroy for its size. Intended to keep firing through the course of the battle, a standard Ionization Buffer around the turret helps assist with this.
  • High fire rate, a steady dependable stream of fast-firing ion barrages.
  • Flexible to fit most ship sizes bigger than a frigate, as well as structures or large vehicles.
  • Hard to Stop. The weapon can be fired manually by a gunner if sensors or targetting goes offline and its independent power cell at its base allows for 30 minutes of fire with no power.
WEAKNESSES
  • An average all-around weapon for damage, range and everything else. No bells or whistles except for a good fire-rate.
  • The weapon struggles against ion resistant hulls and craft.
  • High fire rate but average ammunition means the attacks tend to come in extended waves then a reload to recharge.
  • Nonlethal to craft and certainly larger creatures in most cases, being disabled can still cause collisions or leave craft vulnerable, and being hit by an ion cannon for an individual can be a fatal or painful experience. Biological craft or components would likely be immune to much damage but a sting for example.
  • Not particularly good at hitting small fast spacecraft or light quick vehicles, it can, certainly when several are working together, but it doesn't happen reliably with individual shots.
DESCRIPTION

Directive 5T, Project Lead Tekethi Uos. Codename: Midship B-Ionsider
Project Cost: 1.2 Million Credits
Total Time to Completion: 4 Years, 8 Months and 17 Days Galactic Standard Time.

It has become increasingly apparent to fleet captains that destroying the enemy's ability to fight has become commonplace, leaving ships helpless and vulnerable. What this weapon aims to do is address that statement from both angles.

Although at first glance the A-SIB1 isn't much more than a faster firing but otherwise regular ship sized ion cannon, designed to disable ship systems or weapons. Defensively the A-SIB1 is built to take a pounding, for either a ship of the line or any ship designed to hold formation against a sustained barrage. Furthering this concept of durability, the ion buffer running around its turret allows it to absorb a certain amount of ion or emp fire directed at it. Of final note, the weapon can be manually targetted if the craft or structure using it suffers system or sensor damage, running on its own independent power cell for up to 30 minutes, meaning it will be the weapon firing till the end in most cases.

Coming in a sturdy but sleek white chassis, the design and even barrel are well encased in a strong armored shell, coated with impervium to give it a shine. The cannon is designed to be bolt-on in most cases, and an easy to fit on most platforms that can handle it. Often the unit is painted white, black and blue for show purposes, but usually is given the color of what it is fitted to, to better blend in and be harder to visually target.

It was rumored at the end of production a performing arts dance troupe of Trandoshans and Rodians were present at the afterparty, but all security footage from the night is suspiciously missing and all records it existed have been burned. In an unrelated incident, three staff have later reported PTSD and are seeking counseling.
