Private A Prosperous Venture

Another step needs to be taken. And each day I take them; all in the pursuit of becoming a Junior member of the Board of Directors for the New Cov Biomolecule Company. It does not matter that both of my parents are Senior members. That does not guarantee myself membership. Instead I must earn it just as everyone else does. The only difference being that sometimes my tasks are hand picked by either one of my parents.

Tasks such as this one.

It is yet another business venture to expand the customer base of our biomolecules and the uses for them. Given that New Cov sits in neutral space; there are no limits as to who we can do business with. There are no restrictions as to which side of whichever wars are being fought that can buy from us. I have been warned that such a position can endanger New Cov. However I can see the other side of the coin as it were as well, whereas such a position also grants us protection.

We are the only source of biomolecules in the Galaxy afterall.

I place down my book on a small side table and straighten out my dress as I stand. My guest will be arriving to my apartment shortly. I make my way to the window of the drawing room which serves as my office for the time being, awaiting the taxi which will bring my guest here. My staff await his arrival as well. We have so far been fortunate in that none of our guests have ever been tardy.

Sylas was uncomfortable in the newly tailored suit that had been created for him in order to facilitate negotiations such as these. He had only been in for the actual fitting maybe two days ago. The suit did fit quiet nicely though and was a lovely shade of fern green. He only knew that because the tailor said it would make his eyes pop. He had looked in the mirror before leaving and he really didn't think it made his blue eyes pop but then again he wasn't one for fashion on a whole.

As the taxi was arriving at the location a set of apartments, he was thinking back to why he was making this deal for biomolecules. His father's company or at least his company now made mostly droids, weapons, armours, vehicles and had branched into ship recently. Some researcher he had never heard of in one of the flung off facilities however was apparently working on experiment that require biomolecules. Something that was also hard to come by outside of one company.

The New Cov Biomolecule Company somehow had a monopoly on the product and thus had to be approached. The AI
Genesis had been the one to start the process but even still apparently the company was old fashioned, at least that's what Genesis had said before Sylas left Noverskaa. They wanted to perform negotiations in person rather than through holograms. Some part of Sylas was okay with that though. Lot easier to talk without an AI constantly in his ear.

Stepping out of the cab, Sylas was immediately met with a door man, who had reacted to his arrival with such speed that he knew he was in the right place. Sylas was escorted from their up more than a few floors of the building in an elevator and being chauffeured right up to the door of the drawing room. "Ah thank you so much but I think I can handle it from here." Sylas said as politely as he could putting on his nicest smile before reaching out a hand and knocking on the door thrice.

I did not run from the window like an eager child once I had seen his taxi arrive. Instead I composed myself and checked on the curls in my hair in a gilded mirror. It is flawless as far as I can tell. Every strand of hair is in it's proper place. And although my guest could possibly care less about my appearance, what mattered is that I take pride in it.

There is a knock at the door and it is not a typical knock reserved for my staff. I can only guess that my guest has somehow dismissed them. Well it is not as though I cannot open a door on my own for I fully can. And I will.

I put on a genuine smile as I open the door. I did not do any holonet searches to see just who would be seeing me. More often than not it is young representatives like myself or old ones near retirement that tend to frequent such meetings. If anything I am just glad to have a chance at sealing another deal.

"Welcome to New Cov. I am Miss Liin Terallo. Please come in. Would you like any refreshments before we start?" I step aside so that he may walk in. At a side table sits an assortment of foods and drinks prepared for different kinds of appetites.

As the door opened Sylas got a good look at who is was here to discuss business with. A lady of an interminable age with grey hair and grey eyes. A polite even genuine smile, with perhaps a tinge of surprise that the staff had been dismissed. Sylas then carefully touched out with the force to see if she was at all sensitive, being unsurprised that she was not. Most of the business people he had met with had not been so it made sense.

He watched how she moved still just in case, as she stepped out of the door way. Even though this was supposed to be a business deal after his return back, he's been expected perhaps his father's enemies to try dropping him into a trap or ambush. But this didn't seem like any of that given she moved with the grace of a diplomat, not a fighter. That made some small level of tightness leave his shoulders.

He listened to her short greeting, stepping into the room as she welcomed him in. He did see the tray of refreshments that she gestured to and thought about it for a minute before responding standing close to a chair he assumed would be for him. "Thank you for the warm welcome, Miss Terallo. My name is Mister Sylas Taff, I am not in the need at the moment for any refreshments. Shall we instead perhaps continue our ongoing negotiations?" He said as naturally as he could.

It was lucky they still had tapes of his father's business deals so that he could gain an understanding of how to perform during one. Otherwise he would just be a nervous wreck. Afterall this was his first business deal he had ever done, so this was very much uncharted waters for himself.

I close the door after Mister Taff steps in. It is a little surprising to find him turning down my offer of refreshments. Everyone else that I had met with at my apartment had brought an appetite with them. But I suppose that not everyone is the same. Some people are lean in body due to a small appetite. While some just do not have a taste for foreign foods. Regardless I must not allow it to bother me.

I make my way over to the chair nearest to the one he picked out and sit down. I cross my feet at the ankles and tuck them underneath my chair while I cradle my hands together on my lap. My back and shoulders are perfectly straight, much like the back of my chair.

It was difficult not to notice him studying me. Some people have a habit of doing that. It is as though they are searching for something. Or perhaps my make-up colors are a little off! I have been trying to apply it myself, but being color-blind has made it difficult. I cannot tell what colors compliment eachother if they look identical to me.

"That we shall Mister Taff. As you may well know, NCBC both cultivates and manufactures some products with our biomolecules. There are some that look for finished products only while others seek an abundance of biomolecules for themselves. Which category do you fall under?"

As Miss Terallo shuts the door Sylas decides to sit down. Attempting to make himself comfortable while waiting for her to take a seat too. As she sits down, she seemed to tuck her feet under her chair which seemed to Sylas at least to be more of a relaxed pose. Something he wasn't sure about in business negotiations is how formal or relaxed one should be so he remained upright but comfortable, cause besides the business dealing this was also her home it seemed like.

She seemed to clock Sylas watching her closely seeming to be slightly upset for a second about it. It was only for a second but Sylas clocked it and decided not to focus as closely out of a little bit of embarrassment. This was a bad start to the first business deal he was signing on if he was upsetting his host. This wouldn't stand.

"If your upset about me watching you closely, it not because of your make up. That's fine, just the last person in my position made a few enemies and I can never be sure I'm not walking into a trap when entering someone else's domicile." He said quickly and bluntly. He then spiralled slightly in his head. Was that too blunt, was it fine to just fire that off at someone? Maybe he could have used an AI in his ear for this one.

Then he snapped out of it when Miss Terallo referenced the negotiations. "Right of course, I was made aware that NCBC as you've acronymized it, was one of the few places that dealt in Biomolecules. As such my AI originally reached out in an attempt to secure a deal with your company for a supply of biomolecules. Which lead to this meeting was my understanding as your company insisted in dealing with negotiations for it in person, and I am sure from your research that my company doesn't normally deal with biomolecules which is most like the secondary reason as to why they requested an in-person meeting as opposed to a hologram meeting. That would be the category I would fall under Miss Terallo."

My jaw drops ever so slightly and I cannot help but widen my eyes a little as Mister Taff seems to have read my mind. How else can he guess at what I was thinking? Self consciously I bring a hand up to touch my cheek as if to assure myself that he is speaking the truth. I am not upset but lately I am finding myself encountering nothing but people with Force magic. It is almost unsettling in that it puts me at a great disadvantage. I can only hope that Mister Taff is like a Jedi.

"There are no traps here that I am aware of, Mister Taff."

I listen to his response in regards to what his position is as we start our negotiations. He is not the first to point out our tactic of meeting in person as opposed to meeting on the holofeeds. NCBC is just old-fashioned in that regard. "We are not accustomed to dealing with AI's when it comes to negotiating new contracts. We find it better and more personable to put the names and faces to the companies that we may partake in deals with. How many biomolecules do you require? Will these be regular shipments or just one for research purposes?" The question of payment will arrive momentarily.

Sylas sat as Miss Terallo assured him by saying that there were no traps that she was aware of. Which isn't as comforting as saying something along the lines of this place is very secure, its unlikely you will encounter any troubles while within my residence. But then again not everyone was looking out for trouble he supposed.

Miss Terallo then went on to say they were unaccustomed to dealing with AI's when doing new contracts. Which while not entirely unusual still struck Sylas as slightly odd. The technology of the galaxy was such that VI's were getting mass produced by some companies, seemed like a very quaint decision almost.

Faces and names to companies. That again struck as a odd detail, particularly since most companies wouldn't send their CEO out to meet with other companies. But it could be to make sure they can collect their payments. In which case it would be best to make sure to check what kind of payment system they expect.

"The amount of biomolecules will likely change over time, as we continue our work with it. As such they will be regular shipments of to begin with about one to two crates of biomolecules per month. Assuming of course that is how you measure the amount of biomolecules you sell. In saying this what would be expected payment for these shipments? Credits or perhaps other wares?" Sylas would say to finish out waiting to hear if this was fine as a deal or if Miss Terallo required more details.

Liin Terallo Liin Terallo

"That quantity can certainly be arranged, Mister Taff."

Instead of myself bringing about the question of payment; it is my guest that had touched on the subject as I had suspected that he would.

I feel as though our societies were vastly different and so the value of certain things can vary from the two of us. Biomolecules are highly valuable and I cannot even begin to sell myself short on them. Yet I cannot charge too much for them either.

I refocus on my guest and respond to his inquiry after that brief pause. "As you may have guessed, our technology level has fallen a bit behind due to our isolation from the Galaxy. Credits are one thing, Mister Taff, but technology is far better. With more attention being brought to New Cov we will need to be prepared to handle both the good and the bad. Is your company able to help us in that regard?"

Sylas smiled politely hearing that the amount was sound enough for this kind of deal. He still wasn't sure what the researcher wanted of the Biomolecules, hopefully to create something useful. But regardless they were going to receive what the researcher needed and that should be enough for a while. Perhaps someday he would go out there, find out what exactly they were doing. But not now. Now he needed to focus on finishing up the present deal.

Miss Terallo was talking about their technology level being behind the rest of the galaxy due to isolation. Perhaps she was meaning they were behind the galaxy because they weren't using droids or maybe because they didn't have skyscrapers he couldn't necessarily be sure. But they were asking for payment in technology, effectively in up to date and current goods to bring themselves up to the tech level of the galaxy at large.

"Miss Terallo, I am more than happy to supply technology in return for the Biomolecules. Goods for goods as it were. It is not the first time my company has dealt in such a fashion. In fact Mirdirmorut is mostly a droid and arms company foremost. The first CEO of our company always said speak softly and carry a big stick." He said politely, pulling out a
data pad from an inside pocket of his suit.

"What exactly are you after? Droids, Weapons, Armor, Ships? or would you perhaps prefer us to make something specific for this business deal? We have access to a wealth of technology and
assets, simply tell me what you are after and I should be able to sort it out shortly allowing for this deal to be negotiated to a swift close." He said with a smile, thinking to himself that the deal was almost done and then he could be considerably less nervous.

I smile as he agrees to trade technology for our biomolecules. Ships were a much higher cost than the biomolecules, I am sure. However there are other products that he has touched on that will be more of an even trade.

"Wonderful! Our holonet and communication systems can use an upgrade. And not just for the elite but for everyone. If that is beyond Mirdirmorut's scope, then perhaps weapons and armor will suffice. The jungles will help to protect the Covie from ground forces. However our biodomes might not be able to withstand a powerful orbital assault. We require weapons to increase our offensive and defensive capabilities."

I have been gaining allies from numerous worlds, however there is no guarantee that any aid to our distress calls will come in time. So in the case of a worst case scenario we had to be prepared to hold our ground for as long as possible. This Galaxy has hardly known peace and a large scale war can happen anywhere and at any time.

Sylas sat listening to Miss Terallo as to what she wanted for her entire world. Holonet and communication systems getting an upgrade, or if they couldn't do that then she wanted weapons and armours. Sylas sat thinking on what she was asking for. It was most certainly within Mirdirmorut capacity after all they had managed the data pad that was currently in his hands.

However given she was also looking for extra assistance for her planet. Perhaps it would be better to allow them to have more than the upgrade, after all that was fairly simple tech to distribute to a planet especially considering how fast Mirdirmorut had placed the technology had placed across Noverskaa. And that was back under his grandfathers time, which wasn't that along ago really but was a while back.

"Mirdirmorut can most certainly upgrade all your connections across the planet in order to assist in your holonet and communications. That shouldn't take too long if the right resources are bent into place." He then tapped on his
data pad for a time putting in the requests for that work to be started effective immediately and took a quick look at NSC's inventory before looking back up at Miss Terallo.

"You also said you wanted more defensive capabilities in terms of dealing with orbital assaults, while we have yet to build planetary shields or shield generators that large, our subsidiary NSC has made
defensive platforms of which there are currently a few that are currently being finished up. If you would like one we would be able to have it moved into orbit and we can happily crew it until such a time as your people are able to take it over. If your worried about why I am offering this, call it insurance that a more hostile group is unable to try and take over your company thus cutting us off from our current deal." Sylas said simply.

Again I smile and dip my head as Mister Taff agrees with my proposal. If he believes it to be off balance in regards to worth; there are some things worth more than mere credits can give.

I am surprised to say the least that he adds more to his side of things to the benefit of New Cov. A defensive platform is indeed something that I cannot pass up. In fact it is exactly what is needed while we work on further defences for the domes. Even planetary shielding can only go so far. Every defensive portion has a shelf life in regards to how many beatings it can take.

For the sake of the Covie, there needs to be more than just one layer of protection. Especially in this day and age. And not all of the layers of protection are physical. Allies are key. Some of my allies are enemies to eachother, which in and of itself might create conflict. But at least none of that conflict will be directed towards the Covie.

"I believe that the Board of Directors will be most pleased with your offer, Mister Taff. Thank you." It has not occured to me that someone would try to take over NCBC. As far as I am aware there is no one vying to replace the CEO. But who knows what can happen in the future? Most especially as I garner more attention towards NCBC. "A defensive platform will be very ideal for us, Mister Taff. I only hope that the time will never come upon which we will have to use it."

Tag: Sylas Taff Sylas Taff

Sylas inclined his head at the acceptance of the offer. He gently smiled responding "Of course, we all hope for a future in which such defensive tactics are not necessary. But I like working on a just in case basis of having things in place when something occurs. Hence why the offer, I am glad your willing to accept it and if you ever need any assistance please don't be afraid to ask." He then got up out of the chair stretching slightly.

"Is there anything else that needs to be talked? Or shall I take my leave?" If there was more to be said he would sit back down ready to hear it. If there was nothing however Sylas would leave the room and get ready to leave the planet to make sure all of these things could be in effect.

Liin Terallo Liin Terallo

Mister Taff is so like-minded that it is almost as though he is a Covie himself! But I know that not to be the case. At least the two of us are on the same page. Of that I am grateful. And there is sure to be more business between our two companies in the future.

He rises to his feet and I follow suit with a polite smile. "I do not believe that there is anything further to add at this time, Mister Taff. I shall debrief the Board of Directors and send the contract to you as soon as possible." I start to escort him to the door. "Should anything else come to mind, I will contact you. And I do wish you a safe journey home."
