Location: Tauber

The fall of Thyferra has sent thousands fleeing into neighboring systems. Among the worlds receiving these displaced civilians is Tauber, whose local authorities have opened their borders to refugees escaping the Sith occupation.

Though willing to help, Tauber has found itself increasingly overwhelmed by the sheer number of arrivals. Temporary shelters are at capacity, supply lines are strained, and medical personnel are struggling to accommodate the wounded and exhausted. Many refugees have arrived with nothing, uncertain of what became of their homes or whether they will ever be able to return.

In response to the growing humanitarian crisis, the New Jedi Praxeum has dispatched volunteers to Tauber to assist with ongoing relief efforts.

Working alongside local authorities and civilian aid organizations, Jedi of all ranks are encouraged to lend their abilities wherever they are needed. Whether constructing temporary shelters, distributing supplies, providing medical assistance, helping reunite separated families, or simply offering comfort to those who have lost everything, there is no shortage of work to be done.

The goal is not to fight a war, but to help those who have been caught in the middle of one.

This is an open-ended, slice-of-life adventure available to Jedi of all ranks, including Padawans, Knights, Masters, and members of the Service Corps. Participants are welcome to pursue any aspect of the humanitarian effort, create minor NPC encounters, and develop smaller stories with one another. Members of other Jedi groups and independent Force-users are also welcome to join the relief effort.

"Never Hide Your Heart"

The steady hum of transport engines filled the crowded landing zone, occasionally interrupted by shouted instructions, repulsorlifts, and the chatter of hundreds of displaced civilians. Tauber had opened its doors to those fleeing the fall of Thyferra, but generosity alone could only stretch so far. Every available structure had been repurposed, supplies were arriving almost as quickly as they could be distributed, and the temporary settlement seemed to grow with each new transport that touched down.

Katarine Ryiah shifted the weight of a heavy supply crate in her arms as she stepped down the loading ramp. She could have easily levitated the thing, but there was something satisfying about doing the work herself. Besides, there were plenty of opportunities to practice the Force elsewhere. Today, she was simply another pair of willing hands.

"Medical supplies?" she asked, glancing at the markings on the container.

A harried-looking dockworker nodded and gestured toward a row of prefabricated sheds that had been erected near the edge of the landing zone.

"Third one down. They've converted it into temporary housing and storage. Just make sure you don't block the sleeping quarters. We've got another thirty people coming in before sundown."

"Understood. Thank you."

Offering the man a reassuring smile, Katarine adjusted her grip and continued toward the indicated structure. She passed several volunteers along the way, some carrying food and blankets, others helping newly arrived refugees find their assigned shelters. The New Jedi Praxeum had come to Tauber to lend whatever assistance it could, and Katarine intended to make herself useful wherever there was work to be done.

As she neared the sheds, a burst of laughter caught her attention.

A group of children had claimed a patch of dusty ground between two shelters, fashioning a makeshift kickball game out of an old rubber ball and several discarded supply containers. Their rules seemed questionable at best. One particularly enthusiastic kick sent the ball sailing well beyond their improvised boundaries, prompting a chorus of protests and laughter from the others.

Katarine found herself smiling.

Not far away, several adults watched the children from the shade of a nearby shelter. They were close enough to call out a warning whenever the game grew too rowdy, but their attention frequently drifted toward the landing pads and the newly arriving transports. One mother kept an arm wrapped protectively around a younger child, while another searched the crowd with the sort of anxious determination Katarine had already seen far too often that day.

It was a strange contrast. The children, at least for the moment, had found something resembling normalcy. Their parents, however, seemed unable to forget how quickly everything familiar could be taken away.

She couldn't blame them.

"Hey! Watch out!"

Katarine turned just in time to see the runaway ball bouncing toward her. With both hands occupied by the supply crate, she gave the ball a gentle nudge with the Force, sending it rolling back toward the children.

"Careful," she called with a playful smile. "I'd hate to explain to the quartermaster that our medical supplies were defeated by a game of kickball."

The skies of Tauber were alive with light from ships of all types. Clouds roamed, white as ghosts, beside freighters, haulers, transports, fighters and otherwise. All of them had their own transponder codes, pilots with callsigns, different objectives in mind, and many if not most were of the New Jedi Praxeum. They weren’t alone though. In their midst drifted a shadow however unknown.

A 3-Z light freighter lowered toward the ground and found purchase amid other ships if with a wide berth. The captain of the Star’s Sanctum shared in this mission for sentientarian assistance but kept some distance to not interfere with predetermined landing patterns. For that matter, she would be recognized as Jedi but not of the New Praxeum.

The ramp lowered and a Pantoran woman stepped out garbed in grey robes streaked in blue, hood lowered, her countenance in full view. She took in her surroundings, counting vessels, noting shelters, witnessing help unfold before her eyes. The planet was known for its medical focus but could not help with the efforts alone. Neither could Vayla Mirana help from hiding a smile, feeble if it was, as she glimpsed Jedi being Jedi. These people relied on their kind and it was up to someone like her to provide.

At the moment, that meant distributing supplies, having brought along crates in her freighter. Vayla’s greater goals would unfold sooner or later. Her first priority was expediting base setup. Wasting no time, the Jedi Knight found a line of refugees, hungry and thirsty, being led past aides passing out essentials: first aid, food, water, blankets, clothing, the like. So she found a place to stand, took a tray in hand, and spread her lips toward a tired man.

Her eyes glowed, a consequence of her cybernetic prosthetics, and hopefully so did her spirit. It was one thing to funnel foodstuff from a shuttle and wave a beaten person along. These people weren’t simply sheep though. They needed deeper compassion. Vayla had enough of that to go around. It came as naturally to her as concealing her identity as a Jedi Shadow.
