Private A Piece of Work

The sounds of the powerdrill going to town on screws surronded the worker's dormitories. Saul was in his usual overalls, working away at an old S-57 Cardinal that he managed to barter away from one of the visiting captains, who had used it for ground traspontation when visiting worlds. And the previous owner had sold it for cheap too. Only problem was the previous user must have had plowed this thing into a cliff face. The steeering vanes were bent out of shape, as were the handle bars. The headlight that once existed on the front of the back had been competely shreded off. And so, he was about about to give this bike some TLC.

He had managed to get replacement parts for the steering veins, light and handlebars and replaced them both after about half an hours hard work. Now it was time to see if the thing would actually run right. Its not like the engine had been hit And so he took the key out of his pocket and turned the igination. Its not like the engine was effected in the crash. What he forgot about is that the previous owner might not have kept up with his daily maintence. Or that they had replaced their coolant... And so he was surprised when after only hovering for acouple of seconds, a big black cloud of smoke that the whole settlement could probably see rattled its why out of its the exaust as the whole bike came crashing to the ground. On his metal foot no less. Man he really should have remembered to turn those pain sensors off...

"Right... so I should... prune the lower leaves to encourage upper growth?"

Jasper sat before one of many bushes that were being cultivated in the agricultural fields of the settlement of Respite. He had little nippers in his hand and was looking on at the vegetation in some confusion. Beside him, standing a distance back was the Chief Botanist of the temple, Yuma Senn. The woman offered an airy chuckle.

"Yes, that is the idea, Master Kai'el," she confirmed. "But just staring at the leaves won't prune them."

"Yeah... just, y'know, don't wanna screw things up..."

And so he was surprised when after only hovering for acouple of seconds, a big black cloud of smoke that the whole settlement could probably see rattled its why out of its the exaust as the whole bike came crashing to the ground.

Jasper turned his head and caught glimpse of a cloud of smoke, puffing in the distance.

"Right, I'll just figure this out later," he decided.

Before long, with a little walking, Jasper came upon the sight. A speeder that had decided to blow up internally, and a strange young man with vibrant looking eyes. The Jedi Master examined the parts of the bike that was planted on the boy's foot. He used the Force to lift the bike a small amount so he could move it off and set it back down.

"S-57 Cardinal," he noted from afar, "That thing is an antique. Must be having trouble letting out heat. I'd wager that it's having issues with energy surges. Bad dampeners, so all the insides are getting melty-hot cause too much power is getting spilled in."

After his rambling, Jasper offered an awkward smile below is beard.

"Ah, apologies. Jasper Kai'el, pleasure to meet you."

Saul was already estimating how many more pieces and parts it would take to get this bike actually working and how much it would cost him when Jasper lifted the bike off of him. His reaction was... not promising... Sepifically him starting to shake as he swore to himself... This was one of the first times he had seen the force used in person. And it was frightening to see one person being granted so much power. He was the result of someone having too much power so the Cyborg would know. That and the past experiences he had with this sect didn't exactly go well. Still, it wasn't like this man was going to slice him in half, now were they.

When the Jedi said the bike by name, it was enough for Saul to raise an eyebrow. Guess there were wrenchheads within the Jedi then he thought. "Antique meaning a pain in my behind... Thought I could get this bike at a good price and with alittle elbow grease, get it working. Guess I was wrong." The Jedi's explanation made sense... atleast on its face. The engine was certainly overheating from something. Now the Cyborg needed to find out what.

The Cyborg slowly got up, moving normally after something that might have broken another person's foot. He still gave a slight wince as he got up, rolling his ankle to test his cybernetics. Everthing was alright, or seemed alright anyways. He would only figure out when his leg fell apart or caught fire.

When Jasper offered his name, the Cyborg slowly put out his hand for a shake. The Jedi not putting Master of the Galaxy and everything that is innocent in front of his name was refreshing. Half made it seem like they were an actual person. "Saul" He ran his fingers through his monment, equally awkward till he finally found something to say. "Thanks for the help. I was hoping to use this bike to get around the settlement instead of just walking everywhere but it seems fate has other plans for me." Didn't it always?

He knew Jasper from somewhere... While they talked though, he couldn't think of where. Then he clicked. Jasper was one of the people running this settlement. He probably had something better to do with his time than watch him fix a bike. Did he?

"Saul"
"Thanks for the help. I was hoping to use this bike to get around the settlement instead of just walking everywhere but it seems fate has other plans for me."

Jasper shook the boys hand then offered a smile.

"Well, fate is a load of hokey, I say," he stated. "I'm not one to let a bit of inconvenience keep me from a goal. Here, just a sec."

The Jedi would pull out a small device and click a button. It wasn't long before his personal x-wing, parked nearby, flew over and set down in a clearing. A yellow BB-unit astromech offered melodic beeps and chirps from a distance, clearly the one who had piloted it over after being prompted by the signal. Jasper would open a compartment in the side of the ship and begin rustling around before he retrieved a surge protector and a dampener component, both used to better modulate the flow of power. He turned back and placed them into the Cyborg's hands.

"Try swapping out these guys," the man suggested. "If that does the trick, you'll want to replace all of the molten insulation next. Just so the components aren't causing any more explosions."

Jasper's line made Saul shake his head and laugh, saying to himself. "Says someone in a galaxy where people can get forcevisions of the future." But it was nice to be cared about. It wasn't something that he got a lot of.

Saul couldn't help but smile as he watched the X-wing as his hand shaded his eyes from the sunlight. These Jedi had all the toys. As Jasper came back over with the parts, the Cyborg couldn't help but send a zinger Jasper's way. "I see you are a part hoarder too." Still, he was thankful for the spare parts and the instruction. The problem would have been found eventually, but the Blond-haired Dad of the Order did save him some time. Before Jasper left, though, Saul called out after him. "Anything I can do to pay you back?" Saul didn't know how he could pay someone back who probably had everything they ever wanted, but he could at least try to find something that might make the Jedi Master smile.

"I see you are a part hoarder too."

"Anything I can do to pay you back?"

"Nope," Jasper stated bluntly. "Don't really do that. Besides, I can build my own limiters out of scrap and elbow grease. Those components won't be missed."

Jasper let out a chuckle as he lingered on the remark about people who could see the future.

"You know, I've had a few folks tell me they knew my future," he noted. "Never came true, and they had the full nine-yards of foresight. My thought is that these 'visions' are just probabilities. Like a potential outcome that could happen, but maybe doesn't tell the whole story. Haven't found anything to be surefire in my life, and I've seen some pretty ridiculous things."

He would offer a shrug, wearing a casual smile on his face.

"But hey, up until recently I was some Joe living out of my ship," the man stated. "Who am I to understand how the universe works. All that might just be above my pay-grade."

The parts hoarder thing was more of a joke than a statement, but that Jasper could build these from scratch definitely made it easier for him to like the Jedi. Without responding, he nodded his thanks before starting on the work, going into the bike's guts to replace the components. "Yeah, I can bet. Must be a hard business, trying to tell multiple futures apart. It's why I try to stay off Boloball betting holosites. Saul did not doubt that the Jedi had seen some nerfed-up things. Most people didn't lose arms for no reason. And active Jedi didn't usually like to stay out of the action.

Unhooking the old parts of the bike and replacing them with the new, Saul couldn't help but snort at Jasper calling himself an average Joe. "So... You just learned how to lift things with your mind overnight then. That must have been fun to figure out." Despite Jasper definitely not being an average person, he certainly acted like one. That was nice; being the only other conversation with the Jedi here wasn't... ideal... "But thanks for acting normal... Not all the Jedi I met here tend to be, and it makes it harder to talk to them." It was the best explanation he could give without outing Braze entirely. The Cyborg didn't want to make trouble, but he also didn't want to hide the truth. Who knows, maybe the Jedi Master could figure it out for himself.

Once he had replaced the parts, he stood up and took a rag out of his jumpsuit, wiping the residue from his hands. Saul put a tired smile on his face and faced the Jedi, trying to put the awkwardness behind him. "Thanks, Master Jedi, you saved me a day or two of trading to get these things together. And now for the moment of truth..." The Cyborg reached over and keyed the ignition, magically bringing the bike back to life. It almost brought a tear to his eye. "Well, looks like you do know your stuff after all." And he was certainly grateful for it.

"So... You just learned how to lift things with your mind overnight then. That must have been fun to figure out."

"Don't think I ever got it down truly til I was in my twenties," Jasper admitted without shame. "And I was raised learning. Sometimes even special-seeming folk can be painfully average."

His much weaker use of telekinesis was little more than a party trick, really. Nowhere close to the strength of most of his peers. He used tech to augment his abilities, cheat his own limitations. He did laugh when the boy said he was rather normal seeming for a Jedi, which he didn't mind one bit. After all, he only gave his name, never his rank.

"Well, looks like you do know your stuff after all."

"Glad I could impart something then," he decided with a nod. "Was no trouble at all. You could say that vehicles were one of my first true joys. 'Course nowadays it takes a backseat to my family and the settlement, but the ol' muscle memory still works just the same."

It was still good to give them a little flex here and there, just to make sure his skills were still as sharp as ever.

Jasper being a late bloomer wasn't necessarily a surprise. You never stopped learning after all. Like now, when he just learned that Jedi weren't always... passive aggressive... That they actually were normal people. "Well, I'll know who to come to when I need help." It was all he could think to say. If he knew more about Jasper, maybe something else would have popped up in his head, but for right now, he was happy just to have some company as the Cyborg put the final touches on bringing this bike to life.
