Private A New Crewmate

Kahlil Noble Kahlil Noble has asked to meet Jonyna in the hanger bay of the Prosperity. Settling the Reaper in it's new home was a bit odd, but meeting with a council member, one she had...a history with, was always stressful for the Cathar. All she had been given was it had something to do with Aris Noble Aris Noble , and that set off alarm bells. Surely, it was gonna be something that would get her in trouble.

She had sent Rayia Si Rayia Si and Ko Vuto Ko Vuto off to train while she did so. Standing at the edge of the landing ramp of her ship, she waited. She waited to get yelled at by Kahlil.

Was she a bit paranoid? She considered that for a moment. Maybe it would go well. Yeah! It'll be awesome! She's gonna get promoted to Master and added to the Council!

...no, that'll never happen.

"Knight Si."

Kahlil stood in the hanger with his basically younger doppleganger. Aris looked ahead, giving the Knight a brief smile, but it was the Master for the moment that spoke. He reached down, patting his son's shoulder.

" Briana Sal-Soren Briana Sal-Soren has ended up rather busy with the war and her own world, which means Padawan Aris here has had to find different lessons on his own. I am.." There was a pause as the master let out a weary sigh, then just.. Smiled. Typical dad tired smile. Everything had gone to the craziest end with the Dark Empire's invasion, and his own work hadn't ceased since. "Simply put, he needs a Master to train him. And there's few I trust in the order as much as I do Briana. You're one of them. You can refuse, since, he is my son and I know the stress that alone has. But I will ask you anyway, to train him to be a Jedi."

Jonyna's reaction was...

Disbelief.

"...wait really?"

This was certainly not what she had expected. Kahlil entrusting his son's training to her. While it was a great responsibility, she was never one to turn a challenge down. "Uhhhh...yeah, sure. Come on in, I'll give you the house tour Aris."

He trusted her.

That was a change in her mind. A new step in her journey.

Kahlil dipped his head in appreciation. Their relationship was awkward, but he knew how much of a Jedi Jonyna truly was. Perhaps that's why he always ended up pushing her. To hope she might be something that much greater. Perhaps one of the greatest of their generation. But, he wouldn't explain that, ever. That would defeat the purpose of what he was doing, of what he was trying to teach.

Some things just needed to be realized on their own, than explained.

But now it was just Aris there with Jonyna. He nodded once, glancing up to the ship. Blinked. Wait, they were going into the ship for a house tour? Dad had the Bastion he used to live in, but was this- Did Jonyna actually live in her ship?

He glanced to the Knight once more before he nodded again and walked up the ramp. "Okay, Master Si."

The ramp led up to a small armory, old blasters from the Imperial era alongside some old keepsakes. "You're free to leave any weapons you have in here." Jonyna nodded. "I keep a few keepsakes here, but it's free for you to use. What kinda weapons you prefer, kid? I haven't really had the chance to see you or your sister in action. Been all over the place."

She kept talking as she led them up into the next level of the ship, the armory seeming to be isolated from the rest of the ship. Once up the ladder, Jonyna gestured to the large lounge area. Holovision was set up in front of a few couches, a table in the back for games, though a keen eye could probably figure it wasn't originally for that. "You're also free to use this, but if you throw any parties, I reserve the right to show up and be the chaperone for any wild adventures." It wasn't clear if she was joking there or not. "You wanna pick a room? We got three left. Ko's is the farthest back on the left, right across from mine. Rayia's is next to his." She gestured to a long hall in the back of the lounge. On the left, an entrance to a large pool with a jacuzzi, on the right, a full kitchen. Behind both, a set of three doors that were clearly meant to be bedrooms. "We have dinner around 6-ish usually if you wanna join."

His weapon would.. Go in a closet? He glanced around, his face pretty neutral as ever as he studied the various weapons on the wall. He knew a little on blasters, but he wasn't too focused on learning them. He probably should, given his limitations, but he preferred his lightsaber. And Seszil. He glanced to the sword strapped to his back. For the moment, the blade was slumbering. He'd wake, soon enough.

"My blades. I'm very fast, and very strong. I can't use the Force like others, so, yeah. Bladework."

Then they went up and.. They were actually living in the ship. He blinked as he looked around the living area, lightly tilting his head. This wasn't expected, by his expression. And yet, he was smiling. It reminded him of home, in a way.

"Okay. Then- That one." It didn't matter which room was his. He pointed to the closest unclaimed one, nodding once in affirmation of his choice. "What are the chores? Do you alternate who does the cooking?"

"Usually it's just me. Though, Ko occasially cooks something up. Kitchen is free to use whenever you're hungry." Jonyna shrugged. Chores? "As long as you clean up after yourself, usually the only chores we have are keeping our rooms clean. I've got Dice keeping the rest of the place tidy." She was very casual about it all. Maybe it was years of being a rebel, maybe it was her own lack of parentage at a young age. "Bladework though..." Jonyna thought for a moment, before smiling. "Come on, there's something upstairs I got for you."

She led them up a set of ladders in the middle of the hall, Aris noticing there was a way down as well to what looked like a blaster turret. Instead, Jonyna took them up, into another hall. "This is the med bay, by the way. I've got a medical droid running that, buuuuuuut-" She smiled, as she led him down the hall, to what looked like a refurbished room that had been turned into a dojo. "Here we are! The Dojo." She smiled, gesturing to a workbench off to the side. "Over there you can mess with your saber or design new ones. Buddy of mine made it back when he was still around. Oh, and you're free to use whatever credits you want from my account. Just ask first. But, the fun part of this room..." She walked across the room, poking at a small button on a wall. The wall opened up to reveal a droid charging station, and a humanoid droid.

"This is Mimic. He's a new hire."

"I am M1-M1C, Jedi Training Holo-droid. I am programmed with the fighting styles of several notable figures of your history, and the capability to replicate their abilities. How may I assist you Young Master?" The droid gave Aris a small bow, before a training saber ejected from his hand, and ignited.

"I got some holo-tapes from the archives to train him on, and some recordings from my own personal collection. You're free to train with him however you want!" Jonyna smiled, hoping the boy would be impressed. She had originally gotten the droid to help her train against Sith, but it made a great teaching tool for padawans as well.

Keeping his own room clean? He could do that. He nodded once before he set Sezil down in his room, leaned against the desk. The sword was aware, at least, of where he was. Even if he was 'sleeping'. He did blink though as she seemed to have some idea on bladework. Aris didn't hesitate to follow her up, though he was plenty curious on what it was she wanted to show him. It wasn't anything he expected, though.

His expression lit right up as he saw what it was, and an almost excited smile had formed on his face.

"You're a PROXY unit! That's- I didn't know there were any still around. That's so cool!"

Then, he cleared his throat to glance to his new master, not wanting to be too embarrassing. Or embarrassed himself.

"I will.. Make sure I don't break him."

Jonyna just let out a snicker. "I'd hope not, I'm paying him well. Would you like to train with him? I'd like to see how you fight so I can help you improve. Mimic, do me a favor and load up Soresu Protocol."

The droid nodded, it's holographic panels forming to the face of the legendary Obi Wan Kenobi. "Soresu protocol active."

The droid lifted his training saber above his head, waiting for an attack.

"Go ahead kiddo. He's set to only defend right now."

The knight watched the boy with a keen eye. She wanted to understand how he fought, and what she could do to help him.

xiqfVVX.png

Set only to defense?

Aris nodded slightly as he watched the droid shimmer into a different figure. He'd read about them, at one point. A long dead Jedi Master. He flicked on his own lightsaber to steady his own stance. Neutral, clearly Shii-Cho. At least until he moved. He was a blur, well beyond what even the most advanced Padawan's had accomplished with their speed. And, perhaps unfortunately for Mimic, Aris had decided to lean fully into what Ko Vuto Ko Vuto had taught him.

All his strength in one, final blow. There were no more, there was no follow up. Just his steel shattering strength behind the overwhelmingly fast strike.

The droid did his best to defend, lying in wait, but the blur of speed kept him on the backfoot.

Jonyna observed. The boy was a duelist, no doubt. She wondered if he had considered duel wielding at any point. Maybe get him another saber? The ability his father had taught her might be useful...

The final blow caused the droid to buckle, forcing the holo-gram to deactivate, and Jonyna to speak up.

"That's enough." She smiled. "I think I know where to start with you. Has your father trained you at all in the aspects of bonding with your crystals?"

xiqfVVX.png

Aris let out a breath as he lowered his saber, let the blade retract back into the hilt. It was good he didn't destroy the droid, so that was a relief. He did blink though, glancing towards Jonyna before tilting his head.

"I'm incapable of feeling things in the Force around me. I can't do those kinds of bonds."

Ah.

So that's why he leaned on being a duelist...

Hmmm...

"Well then, there is one other thing I could start with." The hard part was, there was no good way of teaching this without...

Well, Jonyna just let out a chuckle. "We'll start with a training I did with Ko Vuto Ko Vuto back when I started with him. Agility training."

She walked over to the wall, clicking a button. Seven different Remotes fell from the ceiling, and floated. Awaiting a command. "If you're not capable of using external abilities, then we'll just have to train your internal ones to their peak. One I spend a good amount of time training is the resistance to pain. Crucitorn. You trained at all in it?"

xiqfVVX.png

"I know of the ability. I don't feel much pain, though."

Not that he didn't feel any. Just, it was very difficult to hurt him physically. Unless people targeted his hearing. He grimaced at the memory of Tython and what had happened there, how it hurt his head. His ears. Maybe he should focus on learning this skill. He glanced to the droids, humming softly.

"Are you going to have me shot?"

Jonyna Si Jonyna Si

"Not exactly a good way to train you to resist pain without causing it first. The remotes are set to low power stun, so it'll only sting like a bug bite. I did this with Ko Vuto Ko Vuto when I first took him on as a padawan. They're gonna start shooting at you, and you have to defend yourself as best you can. The only rule is that you can't attack them." Jonyna instructed. "You can block, run away, whatever works. Just can't hit back."

Ko had solved the problem by herding the remotes and making them easier to dodge. She was curious how Aris would handle it.

The remotes swirled in the air around Aris, waiting for the command. "You ready?"

xiqfVVX.png

"Bugs can't bite me."

Don't hit back, don't get shot. His expression thinned to focus as he lifted his blade. He watched the drones, waited for the go, then stomped a foot. The floor cracked loudly as metal bent and shattered, bringing up the floor in a large slab that he sort of just, grabbed. And used as a full body shield from most of the drones. Those on the other side? He battered away their shots, his eyes narrowed, watching, glancing between them. He didn't have the dangersense that other Jedi did, but he could hear the lasers within the drones activating before they shot. For him, that was plenty of time for him to bring his saber around.

Especially with one whole side of his body protected.

The ones behind the make-shift shield were quick to shift their position, coming up and over the shield to try and attack him. The ones behind idly shifted position up and down, side to side, each trying to get a hit on the boy.

Jonyna watched with an impressed eye. Even if she had to replace the floor, she could already see the creativity of the boy showing. A sign of an already accomplished duelist. Part of her wondered if he had always gone through similiar training. Still, she wanted to challenge him. With the press of a button, several more remotes fell from the ceiling and began attacking. She needed him to feel pain before she could teach him how to resist it. It wasn't a matter of him being too skilled, it was a matter of showing him a skill he could use in the future.

She considered if this would need reworking. If he kept his guard up well enough, the training would fail it's original purpose.

Still, it would be good experience for the boy. She could figure out new training regiments for him later. For now, she wanted to see him work.

xiqfVVX.png

Turned out holding a giant slab of metal was pretty limiting in movement. A realization that settled in quick as he watched the drones shift around to start shooting at him alongside the others. On one hand, he'd protected his entire flank. The other? He battered away the shots, but found himself pelted by others. He gritted his teeth, half tempted to throw the slab as a weapon itself. But, he was told not to.

It was a minor annoyance for him. There was no pain felt, no flinch as each bolt hit him. But he wasn't able to fully defend himself, and it was clearly frustrating him.

Jonyna watched as the boy struggled, noticing his lack of flinching. She'd had to work harder to get him the training she had intended this to be. Still, she wanted to know how he would get himself out of this.

The remotes began to swirl, firing faster than before.

Maybe another saber? She could teach him dual wielding, and she saw he had another sword that he had left behind him. Was that what his normal strategy was?

A pause, and she pressed a button on the wall, causing the remotes to cease suddenly.

"Aris, tell me about that sword you had earlier. Are you a dual wielder by chance?"

xiqfVVX.png

"Seszil is my guardian. Since I can't feel the Force, they act as my shield to help keep me safe. They're sleeping, at the moment."

Aris lowered his blade with a sigh. At least he wasn't being shot anymore, but the frustration at his inability to keep himself safe was clear enough on his face. Well, to those who knew him. It was a subtle frown, as ever. Barely expressive, but still. He didn't like feeling like this. Ah. Frustration over failure. He'd have to make sure he didn't feel this again. Time to renew the usual drills he did.
