The Jedi Grandmaster had an office.

Kaelos wasn't exactly sure why that surprised him. He could only imagine that there was a lot of administration in running the New Jedi Order and so an office made sense. He'd expected to see the inside of it after he and Vera Noble Vera Noble had borrowed a ship and adventured on Kiffu, but he'd somehow gotten away with that.

Now he was outside her office, voluntarily. He was outside her office looking to seek her advice on a matter personal to both of them. He wasn't entirely sure how she'd take it, if she'd offer advice of offer annoyance. He wasn't sure if she'd encourage the friendship or tell him to stay away from her daughter.

Vera Noble Vera Noble had become somewhat special to him. She'd approached him in the Jedi Temple Archieves and since then they'd been near inseperable. They'd been on a second adventure on New Cov, had shared some awful memories on Aruza and had only just returned from yet another adventure which had begun with him climbing the Jedi Temple to her room.

They were great friends, every moment between them was a laugh. Yet there was something more, something he didn't understand. Something he'd only realised when he'd seen her there in her night dress the morning he'd made his way into her bedroom. Something he didn't know who to talk to regarding.

He knocked the door, and let out an audible gulp.

Valery was seated at her desk, datapads stacked neatly beside her, a holoscreen casting a soft blue glow across the otherwise dimly lit office. Reports, mission debriefs, scheduling — endless tasks that came with being Grandmaster. It was the part of the job that required patience, the kind that didn't come from wielding a saber or standing on the battlefield.

Still, she managed it. Somehow.

Then — knock, knock.

Her fiery gaze flicked toward the door, brows raising slightly at the unexpected visitor. She set down the datapad in her hands and rose smoothly to her feet, stepping forward to unlock the door. It slid open with a soft hiss. And there, standing in her doorway, looking like he was mentally preparing himself for battle, was Kaelos.

She blinked.

Not who she was expecting.

Then, she smiled. "Kaelos," she greeted warmly, stepping aside and gesturing for him to come in. "Didn't expect to see you here. Come in."

She closed the door behind him, watching him carefully — not in suspicion, but with curiosity. He looked… tense. Not in trouble, but certainly not at ease either. That was interesting. Moving back to her desk, she leaned against the edge and folded her arms, her expression open but inquisitive.

"How can I help you?"

"Grandmaster"

He acknowleged her with respect, offering a polite bow upon entry to her office. She casually leaned against the desk and at that moment he realised just how alike mother and daughter were. Both of them were just extremely laid back people.

Kaelos took a moment after entering. The words he wanted weren't quite coming, the questions he wanted to ask not forming in his head. His face gave away just how much he was struggling to formulate the words. It was probably an awkward silence.

So he changed tact.

"When myself and your daughter returned from Kiffu" he finally managed to get out, letting out a slight sigh. "I thought my career as a Jedi was done. I expected to be expelled from the order and expected to have to find a new role in the galaxy" he admitted quite honestly. "Yet, we didn't even get so much as cleaning duty. Why was that?" he asked her softly.

Even as he was speaking, he was forumlating a script for the rest of the conversation in his head. He knew what he needed to ask, but he wasn't sure how to ask it. So he was going to go at it from a completely different angle, hope that she prompted it out of him just as much as he guided the conversation.

He needed her advice, but he didn't know how to ask it.

Valery watched Kaelos carefully as he struggled to find his words, her expression patient but amused. He was nervous — awkward, even — which was unusual for him. Then, finally, he spoke.

Valery listened, her smirk deepening just slightly as he voiced his confusion. Why hadn't they been punished? Why hadn't she made them scrub training droids or meditate on their mistakes for hours on end? She let him finish, let the question linger between them for a moment before exhaling softly.

A small, knowing smile tugged at her lips. "The fact that you're asking this already tells you the answer."

She tilted her head slightly, studying him with quiet amusement. "You knew it was wrong. You expected consequences. You understood that what you did had risk — not just for yourselves, but for others." She folded her arms loosely over her chest. "That alone tells me that I don't need to punish you. You've learned a lesson."

Her fiery gaze flickered, warmth still lingering behind them. "Padawans cause trouble sometimes. That's just part of it. Within reason, of course." Her smirk sharpened just slightly. "Now, if you and Vera had, I don't know, stolen a Jedi cruiser and gotten into a shootout with bounty hunters —then we'd be having a very different conversation."

A teasing glint passed through her eyes before she leaned back slightly, her smirk softening. "But in the grand scheme of things? You both learned from it. And you came back knowing where the line is." A small pause. "I trust that you won't cross it."

He decided not to mention the rest of the adventures.

Not for a second did Kaelos believe that Valery Noble Valery Noble wasn't already aware of their adventures, but if she wasn't going to bring them up nor was he. "Definitely not brave enough to steal a cruiser, that's for sure" he acknowleged with a nervous laugh.

"Part of being a Jedi is knowing when the line needs to be crossed" he commented with a slight smile. He'd read numerous reports of what different Jedi did on missions. Sometimes the lines needed to be blurred a little, he'd realised that much.

The young Kiffar took a slight gulp.

Couldn't put it off much longer.

"I take it you're aware since then, I've spent a lot of time with Vera?" he asked softly. He'd seen the raised eyebrows from everyone when he and Vera interacted, though he'd been much to naive to understand what they all meant. He was certain at least one of them had filled the Grandmaster in.

"Between time spent together here and when we were all on New Cov, we're pretty much inseperable" he admitted quite honestly. The duo had spent countless hours just talking about everything and nothing in between training sessions and different Jedi tasks.

"Not like I can speak to Braze about this either, he's only a year older than I am" he commented once again. His voice was strained, awkward. He was hoping that Valery could read between the lines because it was lot easier than him having to say it.

Valery watched Kaelos carefully, her smirk widening just a little when he nervously laughed about stealing a cruiser. Smart kid. But then — his tone shifted. His body language changed. He was gearing up for something else, something bigger. And then he said something Valery had definitely noticed.

He had been spending a lot of time with Vera lately.

Valery exhaled slowly through her nose, her smirk softening into something warmer. Oh, she knew. The way they looked at each other, the way they always found excuses to be in the same place, the way Vera talked about him. Stars, she wasn't exactly subtle about it. Kaelos, though? He was different. Quieter. Less obvious. But as she listened to him stumble through his words, clearly trying to get his point across without outright saying it, she understood.

Valery chuckled softly, tilting her head just slightly. "Kaelos," she started, amusement dancing in her fiery eyes. "Are you here to tell me that you're interested in being more than just a friend to my daughter?"

Her arms remained loosely crossed, her posture relaxed — but the question was very much serious. She wasn't going to tease him about it. This was important to him. Important to Vera, too. And if there was one thing Valery took seriously, it was the people who got close to her daughter.

So she let the question linger, waiting to see how he answered.

Awkward.

Instantly, his cheeks flushed with red and he turned his eyes away from the Grandmaster. Instantly his mind fillied with worries. What if she judged him? Decided that he wasn't good enough for her daughter? He honestly thought he'd die if she decided to start making jokes about it.

"I...I honestly don't know" he finally said after a few moments of awkward silence, his voice laced with embarassment. "She's a brilliant girl. Kind, funny, caring. Yet she's adventurous and has taught me more about myself than anyone else" he acknowleged. "I really like spending time with her"

He thought about all of the time he'd spent with Vera, everything that had ever crossed his mind. "I guess what I'm saying is I don't know because I've never been through anything like this" he finally relented, his face as a red as a lightsaber belonging to a Sith.

"You have Master Noble" he commented. "You like him as more than a friend. How do you know?" he asked her raising an eyebrow, hoping her relationship with the Shield of the Jedi Kahlil Noble Kahlil Noble would shed some light for him on exactly how he felt about Vera Noble Vera Noble .

Valery listened and didn't interrupt him. She didn't even tease. She just stood there, arms still loosely crossed, a warm but patient smile lingering as Kaelos stumbled his way through his thoughts. It was clear this wasn't easy for him, and she wasn't about to make it any harder. He really liked spending time with her daughter.

She could see it — the way his face flushed, the way he struggled to put his feelings into words. He cared about Vera. That much was obvious. But then, he turned the question on her.

For a moment, Valery just blinked. Then, a quiet chuckle escaped her, and she tilted her head. "Yeah," she murmured, her smirk turning just a little more amused. "My husband is definitely more than a friend."

She shifted slightly, her gaze softening as she thought back — back to the moment she met Kahlil, back to the strange, undeniable pull between them. "For me, it was… different. Almost like love at first sight, I suppose." She exhaled through her nose, shaking her head slightly. "We met at a time when I was still struggling. I had just come out of stasis, adjusting to a galaxy that had moved on without me. And then there he was."

Her expression grew fonder, warmth spreading through her words as she thought about meeting Kahlil Noble Kahlil Noble again.

"The way he helped me through it, the kindness he showed me — it wasn't something I expected to feel. But it was something I knew. There wasn't a single doubt in my mind." She tapped two fingers lightly against her chest. "It was here. In my heart. It beat differently when I was with him, and the more time we spent together, the stronger that feeling became. That bond." She let that settle for a moment, then glanced back at Kaelos, her fiery gaze still gentle.

"So, if you're looking for some perfect, clear answer…" She shook her head with a small smile. "I don't think there is one. But if you listen — to your heart, to how it feels when you're with her, to how much you want to be by her side — eventually, you'll know."

A brief pause, and then, with just a hint of amusement, she added, "And judging by the way you're standing here all flustered, I think you might already have your answer."

Kaelos looked towards the Jedi Grandmaster.

Except he didn't see the Grandmaster. He saw a mum, offering advice to a boy who liked her daughter. She wasn't judging, she wasn't teasing. She was offering solid advice. Trying not just to protect her daughters feelings but also protect his.

He offered her a weak smile before his eyes fell to the floor. "She was there on Aruza" he commented softly. "Psychometry overwhelms at times, feelings of hurt and pain and she was there through all of it" he looked up to Valery Noble Valery Noble slowly and nodded.

"Whenever I've needed her, she's been there. You raised a good daughter, truly" he stated, giving credit where it was due. Her and Kahlil Noble Kahlil Noble had done a good job making sure Vera had a morale compass and respect for everyone she came across.

Valery was right, of course.

"Life would be easier if everything had a definite answer" he mused softly. "Although I do believe you're right" he accepted after a pause. "I do know the answer, and I think you know the answer as well" he added a soft smile on the end.

"So I need your advice on what I do. As both mum and Grandmaster"

Valery listened, her expression softening as Kaelos spoke. He had already made his decision — even if he hadn't fully admitted it yet. She could see it in the way his gaze drifted, in the way he spoke about Vera, in the way his smile wavered between uncertainty and something deeper.

Valery exhaled quietly, a small, knowing smile tugging at the corners of her lips. Kaelos wasn't looking for permission — he was looking for direction. And that was something she could give.

"You want advice?" she continued, her voice light, warm. "Then keep doing exactly what you're doing." She gestured slightly toward him, as if to emphasize her point.
"Because clearly, it's working." Her smirk deepened just slightly, as she continued, "Vera likes you, Kaelos. She trusts you. That doesn't come easy for her, but you're already someone she turns to, someone she wants to be around." Her arms uncrossed, and she rested a hand gently on his shoulder, her fiery gaze steady.

"When you're ready — just talk to her about it. Be honest. Let her know how you feel." She gave him a small squeeze, a silent reassurance.

"I have a feeling you won't be disappointed."

Instantly, he turned red.

He felt it, heat rising in his cheeks. The young Jedi Padawan hadn't even realised that he was doing anything, but somehow Vera liked him? "You mean as in... like or..." he asked softly, his eyes firmly fixed on the floor. He was very, very awkward and unsure of what to do.

Vera Noble Vera Noble had been on his mind a lot recently, especially after they'd spent so much time together. It was slightly scary to think that he'd also been on hers at the same time. It was becoming very clear to Kaelos that there was something between them.

Something that everyone else had noticed a long time ago. It explained the looks from Katherine Holt Katherine Holt and Aris Noble Aris Noble on Aruza, that's for sure. Now that he was starting to put it all together, all of those looks all made a lot of sense.

"Thank you, Master"
