A Fight for the Third (Republic Members Open After PM Approval)

[member="Ana Saraya"] [member="Kyber Salurra"] [member="Slate Estrada"]

With the Republic Military completely reorganized into different assault groups, Camellia felt rather flattered and honored she had some been selected and put into the position of commanding officer for the 1st Assault Group's 3rd Beta Line, or the 3rd Battlegroup as it was much easier to understand. She had a small fleet at her disposal, which she was to lead and command in engagements against the enemies of the Republic, to organize for approved raiding assignments, and lead into battle in skirmishes with enemy fleets. During large scale battles such as invasions she would defer to Caid Centurion, commander of the whole 1st Assault Group.

Her unit consisted of four warships, a Dreadnought and supporting Hammerhead Cruisers and a single Shield Medical Frigate, with their on board compliments of starfighters, as well as ground forces. Organization of which was left to her, though there were certainly a few aspiring soldiers who could likely warrant promotion leading the ground forces given sufficient displays of competent command and combat skill and tactics.

Which was partially why she was out here now. Exiting real space in a less frequently traveled section of Republic space, but a section of space still near enough to more often traveled regions to become the threat it was. A simple asteroid field lay here, already mined long ago, and thus hollowed out for the pirates who now called it home to have easily constructed their base of operations within one of them. This would be a test for the soldiers in her battlegroup, as well as it would be a service for the Republic.

The pirates were already responding as well, old converted Action Transports, now acting as Pirate Interceptor Frigates, were milling about the asteroid field. Various blips on the sensor readings were being called out as swarming dots could also be seen around them, unknown starfighter types, likely cobbled together uglies or old relics. They were smarter ilk than other criminals. They were going to use the asteroids as cover and force the fleet to engage them within it. The Dreadnought would tear through the enemy so long as it could avoid the large space rocks. But the Hammerheads whose main firepower lay full forward could have more trouble.

The pirates had the advantage. . . . . they knew the terrain and who knew what lay on the actual pirate base in terms of defenses. There could be weapon ports plastered all over the thing, and the facilities within could be as big as the entire interior if necessary. However, they certainly had inferior equipment and undoubtedly had less skilled soldiers and commanders. This would be a Republic victory in the end.

"This is Captain Swift aboard the Dreadnought Cruiser Rendili Skies, I want all squadrons to deploy now. We will be moving into the field with my ship taking the lead. A pair of Hammerheads should enter the field together, I want one holding back to catch any escaping along with the support squadrons aboard the Medical Frigate. That means our three main squadrons will be dealing with the pirates own snub fighters. Base reading approximate the enemy has five small frigate craft and fifty signatures the size of starfighters. I want all ground troops in their Warden Armor or Equivalent gear and on board the RAETs. You will also launch as well and make landfall under escort when the opportunity arises. Your mission is to clear out the enemy within their home base. Any who surrender are to be spared, but you are not beholden to hold back to defend yourselves. Unit Leaders for all forces are to keep an ear and eye out. Keep the open channels free of chatter, report only if you require assistance or discover something of oddity or importance. Camellia Swift out, good luck, and may the force be with you."

OOC: Kyber, Slate, and any other who may join us with permission, the Pirate base will have slightly more forces than you do. Each Hammerhead carries 2 RAETs, and the Medical Frigate carries a few shuttles that aren't combat heavy. So you have approximately 190-200 infantry type forces. Not that you will command them all or need to, just watch out for yourself, your squad, etc, I'm just trying to give an approximate size of the pirate asteroid base. But feel free to initiate a daring tale of intense fighting in the pirate hangers, or how some squads make reports in through company frequencies. They likely also have some droid units, you have Oversight Recon Droids, but their use in tight quarters is meh, and of course no one is using tanks here unless the pirates have an open bay somewhere and they have one in ambush for you.

Expect blaster turrets from the ceiling, decompression chamber traps where the bulkheads close and suck the air out (and crush you if the decompression is rapid enough), and gas vents that will disperse paralyzing agents.

As for our pilots and other fighter jockies, watch out for asteroids of large and small sizes everywhere, and also as stated they have around fifty guys with others maybe lurking. Ana, right now you may command all the squadrons if you so desire as our Squadron Leader. You have 36 fighters for reference with 24 in reserve.

Lira stood in the center hangar of a Republic RAET landing craft. Her eyes were as big as those of a bug, her hair was a mess, and it was easy to say that her nerves were a wreck.

She had been assigned on this little mission by Hal, the Jedi Knight had stated that it would be good for her to receive some actual combat experience, and apparently the commander of this particular excursion was a smart one, one that Hal knew would likely succeed in the operation. The young Padawans supposed that meant the situations wasn't all that dangerous, she did after all have some very large men and women with guns surrounding her, and she assumed that they would be doing most of the work.

Still, her skin prickled and the hairs on the back of her neck stood up. She didn't like this. It was something new. Not fighting, Lira had been fighting all her life. Not due to oppression or bullying or anything of the sort, but simply because she liked fighting. Martial arts had always been a part of her life and she had been part of the womens boxing team at Prak University, but this...this was something different.

This was far.

This wasn't for fun or a game, this was kill or be killed. The thought of that made her stomach turn over. She didn't want to kill anyone! Pirates, criminals, even Sith! She didn't want to see anyone end up dead.

In her head she called back to what Avalore had said about her old Master, Diana. The woman had apparently been at the forefront of the war with the Old Sith Empire, and had only ever killed one single person. Lira shut her eyes, digging into her own consciousness for some semblance of course. When her eyes opened she found a new vein of courage.

She could do this.

Kyber walked through one of the Hangars of an RAET standing tall, obviously a little excited about this first mission, however his secondary objective was something that Kyber wasn't very excited about. He'd been assigned to lead the small squad with the Jedi Padawan in it and that was an unknown variable he did not especially like, but a potential tactical advantage he couldn't pass up. Hopefully this Padawan didn't need protecting.

Kyber stopped at the front of the Hangar and looked to the men and women standing there. Kyber knew this mission was going to be a gritty one, so he opted for his heavy armor and made sure to grab an extra Valor Assault Rifle, which he slung over his shoulder next to his Quietsnipe. Kyber started pacing towards the other end of the hangar in front of the men and women in his small squad with his hands grasped behind his back, looking them up and down. He inspected them and their equipment making sure everything was in order before he reached the padawan. He looked her up and down slowly and stood there seemingly just staring at her from behind his blank helmet before slowly turning and standing in front of the small squad again.

He patched his mic through and a soft white static could be heard before he started speaking in a tone that the mic in his helmet distorted into a deeper and more robotic one; "Troopers. Our job is simple. We head in together and find ourselves an access Terminal. Our mission is to extract the interior layout of the Pirates' base. Once we've acquired the information we broadcast through our channels the location of their command center and head there with the rest of our forces and mow our way through until we eliminate or apprehend the Pirates' Leader or Leaders." Kyber then snapped to attention bringing up a crisp salute, to which his squad followed. Kyber then walked over to the Squad and joined their ranks, waiting for the RAET to take off and start the mission.

Kyber patched through a communication to Slate Estrada as he waited "My squad is prepped and ready to go, but I don't know if me, four troopers, and a padawan will be enough to secure the plans we need, if possible we could use another squad to supplement us while the others run interference." Kyber started meticulously checking all his gear and equipment while he was talking with Slate. It was a little tick of his, but before every major battle he always needed to check all his gear three times in a row. He just took it as his foster father's mechanical training being drilled into his brain, but for some reason it always calmed him down. And for the fight that was ahead, he needed to be calm.

Slate ran into the hanger behind the rest of his squad, he was late. His Warden Armour had always been a struggle to get into, but he would've never thought it would take him 10 minutes. The crackling came to a stop as the Commanding Officer, Camelia Swift, had finished her speech. This battle would be Slate's first mission since he re-enlisted into the military, and it would be a lie to say he wasn't nervous. He had a whole squad at his disposal and from the training he took them through, he knew they could pull their weight. Hopefully they wouldn't crack under pressure.

With a standard issue EQM1-LMG "Equalizer" Automatic support weapon slung over his shoulder, Slate approached one of the RAETs. "Come on men, We don't want to miss the battle!" Slate barked over the sirens to his squad. One-by-one each member loaded onto the ship. Before entering the ship himself Slate preformed his final equipment check. "Grenades, check. Ammunition, check. Badass, check. Looks like I got everything." The Sergeant Major smiled to himself, taking his first step onto the loading platform.

Not even allowing Slate to have a second of privacy, his comm unit began flashing, signalling he had an incoming call. Looking at the interface, Kyber Salurra's name flashed up. "My squad is prepped and ready to go, but I don't know if me, four troopers, and a padawan will be enough to secure the plans we need, if possible we could use another squad to supplement us while the others run interference." His battlegroup comrad announced. 'A padawan?' The nervous soldier though, most padawans were over occupied with training and lessons to care for a fight with pirates. But in this battle, any help would be appreciated.

"Outstanding work Sergeant. (just guessing rank) When our boots touch the ground, my squad will be available for support." The Seregant Major shouted down the communication link, hopefully louder than the sound of the RAETs engines starting up. "Until then Salurra, have a good flight!"

All ground forces were now prepared for deployment, it was now up to the Navy to begin the assault.

Hoping into the pilots seat of a Narra starfighter, Thane ignited the engines and waited for the green light that would be given by his Commander [member="Silara Varis"]. His first out as the Republic pilot and it was against his own kind. The small fleet had dropped out of hyperspace in Pirate territory. An asteroid field seemed the appropriate place to find them.

Getting himself strapped and ready to launch, Thane gulped down some whiskey from a flask he keeps in his jacket pocket. The warm rush poured down his spine, settling his hands and nerves. Bringing up his HUD he read the IFF tags of his fellow pilots. Hopefully he'd make it out alive.

As the final safety harness snapped into place, Ana got to work. This would be her first real assignment for the Republic. A mistake would mean more than an embarrassing reprimand from this point on. Stop freak out... You've got this.

Despite the catch in her breath, practiced hands darted across her ship-board interface. As the young pilot booted up the sub-lights, she punched a few keys, filling the right margin of her display with the IFF tags and real time status of her fellow pilots.

Taking a calming breath, Ana made sure her mic was keyed off as she muttered to herself.

"You've got this."

Right, no more delays then!

"All ships forward at the Dreadnought's full speed. I want all ships to enter the asteroid field at the same time, fighters have permission to break ahead to begin the engagement once we enter the enemy's firing range to avoid simple casualties. Helm bring us ahead!" This was it then, reports came in that many of the soldiers were in their respective elements. Ground troopers acting to board the pirate installation were packed into the RAETs ready to go, and fighter squadrons gave the greenlights that their starfighters all checked out and were prepared for combat. Now the only thing that remained was closing the distance to the asteroid field where the pirate base and fleet awaited them all. Sadly something that had to be done at the Dreadnought's sadly slow pace.

Taking the Cruiser into the field was dangerous, but hopefully the larger asteroids were too slow to damage it before the ship could move. In fact hopefully the pirate's warships would be completely wiped out before they encountered that sort of problem at all. Everything would remain near deathly silent on the main bridge, the only sounds being those of the sensors beeping or the thrum of the control panels being used in the crew's work. To the side Camellia could see her frigates paired together, restraining themselves to wait for the Dreadnought to lead. Her apologies went out to everyone who was tense, but it would save more lives to attack together. "All forces steel yourselves. We're almost within range! Squadron leaders prepare to move ahead! Frigate Commanders will make a pass at the pirate's asteroid base and then our dropships will all make their approaches. I expect everyone to do what is right, and to do what is necessary if need be. All hands brace!"

The field was approaching, a silent signal was made to the frigates first to pick up their speed, and then the rest went out. "All forces break into your attack formations and strike!" The Hammerhead Cruisers fired their forward guns towards the asteroid base, which had been thankful enough to fire its defenses at the frigates, thinking they were smart when they gave themselves away, who returned their own mix of turbolasers and Ion cannons to the enemy stronghold. They would take some damage, but it was aiming to be a short pass and only to buy time for the transports. Soon after the Dreadnought cleared the edge of the field as well, and continue course towards the enemy frigates, guns firing as they swept through the field trying to use the asteroids for cover. Now it would all be a game of count and mouse.

The Starfighters would all have begun their combat at this time. And pirates were all prepared at the hanger bays, several of which were now open with just the basic ray shields protecting it from space after the frigates fire had damaged the base's exterior, some of the dropships could land there, but the rest would have to take some combined missile fire from the dropships making their approach. Camellia wished well to the soldiers who would make landfall. There were likely pirates well prepared with scatterguns, blasters, and maybe even other forms of defenses all set for them to step out of their craft.

Thane exited the ship with the rest of the Narra-Class fighters. He and the others moved to the front of the Fleet as the word went out from Commander Swift to begin the assault. Thane punched the throttle on his ship, racing into the asteroids. Dancing up, down and around the deadly rocks, Thane saw an alert appear on his HUD as the scanners picked up non-friendliest on the radar.

"Detecting enemy ships ahead at 300 meters. Engaging enemies on site. Drexel out."

Once the first pirate fighter came into his view, Thane eyed the target until it was in range and slammed down the trigger, unleashing death into the vagrant fighter.

As bloodhawk squadron raced out of the tubes silara felt the thrill of combat wash over her. Thane mentioned something about attack on the comms which was all good with her. Her eyed flicked down to the scanners as her feet pushed the pedals on the floor of her bird burning the afterthrusters hoter'n'hell.

"I copy, enemy fighters in loose formation, 100m to intercept. Squadron wedge formation on me, prepare to engage with blasters only, save the missiles for now!"

She yanked left on the stick, and threw her throttle switch to full as the squadron spearheaded towards the enemy’s rag tag formation.

"Taking fire!" Some one screamed over the comms. Red streaks of laser cannons began to split the space between them, and Lisa flinched as her shield took a direct hit, flashing blue arcs across the bow of her Interceptor

"Weapons free, smash em!"

She hammered on the trigger sending her own lancing rapid beams of fire into the pirate fighters as the two lines crossed and they sailed through them, forcing them to split in half formations or collide with the spearhead...

Thane tracked his target through the asteroids. Following at a distance far enough to adjust to the dangers around but close enough to spray the ship periodically with laser fire. [member="Silara Varis"] had given the order to fire at will and Thane intended to do just that. His next volley scored the right fuselage, sending the fighter spiraling off course into an asteroid.

"One down, moving to next target."

Kyber stayed calm as best he could as he felt the rumbling of the RAET taking off into the unkown. Kyber could feel the ship as it dipped and dodged through space as it flew away from the mothership. Kyber took a deep breath as he grasped his helmet, releasing the pressure seal before pulling it off his head and tucking it under his arm. He stood in front of the squad and smiled wide as he yelled out as loud as he could, making sure the whole squad and anyone else on board the RAET heard him as he sang an old military cadence; "Oh hail, Oh hail, Oh infantry!", and like clockwork the rest of his squad and many others joined in: "Queen of battle, follow me!"

"Oh, republic trooper's the life for me!" "For nothing in this world is free!"
"From a big bird in the sky!" "All will jump and some will die!"
"Off to battle we will go!" "To live or die, hell I don't know!"

Like fate, right after the first verse A sudden tremor shook the dropship as red lights began to flash. This was it. Kyber put his helmet back on with a wide grin. They were officially in a war zone. Kyber couldn't help laughing to himself as his adrenaline started to pump through his veins. He took another deep breath before chanting even louder and with more enthusiasm than before, as if he couldn't wait to spill blood.

"Assault, support are all in place!" "The enemy unaware of his fate!"
"Infanty drops on enemy shores!" "Again, the republic trooper scores!"
"Hit the ground with republic pride!" "A blaster through a Sith Lord's eye!"
"He ought to be damn glad he died!" "He'd hate for me to take him alive!"

Again the spacecraft shook ferociously, some troopers even loosing their footing this time. The lights stopped flashing red at this point, now staying a constant red glow, painting everything in the ship the bright hue. Kyber took his Valor AR off his back and loaded it, yelling to the rest of his squad "Weapons Hot!" before they did the same. Kyber made sure to bum a couple of grenades off of one of the support troopers before steeling himself for the battle, and singing one last verse...

"It's true that some of us will die!" "Republic troopers learn to fly!"
"But not today as I hit the ground!" "Lock and load another round!"
"Its true that someday I'll be dead!" "But before I go I'll take more heads!"

Kyber dropped low, readying to run out as the dropship came to a halt right before his final verse, "Before us enemies all will flee!" And as the blast door dropped the troopers ran out screaming: "Cause we're the republic infantry!"

((OOC: The Cadance I used is an Adapted Version of this: Queen of Battle))

The shuttles lifted. A feeling of weightlessness overcame Slate. It was starting.

Disorientation and dizziness now replaced the feeling of weightlessness. The RAETs were dodging and evading blaster fire coming from the bases located on the asteroid. All infantry units would be entering through the hangar, blaster turrets and little cover for his men was expected, but hopefully they could pull through. A sickening solution enveloped Slate's stomach, spreading across his whole body. He hated flying.

Everyone was silent. Anyone who attempted to talk were overpowered by the engines of the RAETs and the blasters hitting the metal plating. It was time for Slate to break the silence, "Alright men. When we get down there, I want you to maintain fire at all times!" "The only time I want you to stop firing is if you don't have anything left to shoot them with or if you start drowning in their blood!" The Sergeant major looked to his men before finishing. "Do I make myself clear?"

"Hoorah!" His men were disciplined and their response was almost instant.

After much anticipation, the engines cut off and the shuttle fell to the ground. The increased intensity of blaster fire hinted that they were in the hangar, and by the sound of shouting and screaming, Slate's RAET wasn't the first one to land. Before the doors dropped, Slate spoke to his communication expert, "I want you to find out where Sgt. Salurra is and report back to when you find out!" The doors dropped. A hail of red light escaping from blaster barrels rapidly approached Slate and his men. This was war.

Instead of taking point, Slate would wait until all other men had exited the ship. He patted each soldier on the back as they rushed forwards. Many of them would die. Many would be left crippled. But still, they charged on. Behind him, Slate could hear his squadmate shouting through the comm unit "Sergeant Salurra, we need your location ASAP!"

The battle was fully engaged now. There was no more delay. Starfighters swung in formation and clashed with one another now, Camellia had every intention of letting Silara Varis and Ana Saraya handle commanding the squadrons. They were the flight leaders after all, she would only issue them orders from her position overlooking most of the battle if she truly needed the fighters to perform in a specific capacity. Until such time though, they were free to engage how they saw fit from their firsthand perspective.

The same went for the officers and staff for the ground forces deploying on the pirate asteroid base. In fact they were likely to receive much more freedom in command than even the squadron leaders. After all, there was little that could be done from the fleet's end to monitor how the combat was actually going on the enemy stronghold. Its layout was unknown as was all the threats hidden within. It would come down to the judgments of those leading each unit to determine how best to proceed with the objective of taking the pirate's command center. They would have a hard enough battle in the hanger as it was though.

Pirate forces had already set up defensive positions, taking cover behind containers, machinery, unlaunched fighters, and even some foolish enough to stand in the open. The pirates didn't hesitate to open fire once the RAETs made their entrance into the base, their blasterfire would splash against the armor of the dropships and worryingly enough it appeared as though some of the pirates were scrounging for plex launchers in the crates scattered about to actually threaten the ships themselves. The troopers exiting the craft would be under a hail of blaster bolts until they reached cover, a rather hellish fight, almost as chaotic as dropping into a full combat zone.

This was their baptism by fire.

And the fleet received the same. The Pirate frigates were rather lacking in quality. They were fast, but they were more lightly armed and armored. That didn't seem to daunt them though as they flitted through the field, several vessels attempting to engage the Dreadnought Cruiser whiles others played an eerie game of tag with the Hammerheads. The Dreadnought was undoubtedly the biggest threat with the most output of firepower, if it could just get one of the enemy vessels in a broadside they would be shortlived, but with the asteroids providing cover and forcing careful maneuvers it was difficult to do so. Meanwhile the Hammerheads had to engage in roundabout tactics, since both they and the pirates had most of their firepower directed forward, they continually sped about trying to keep each other in front while at the same time not letting themselves suffer being hit by the other's forward fire as well.

Thane was tracking a pair of pirate fighters as he bobbed and weaves his way through the asteroid field. He had one in sight and lit up the black space rocks with red light from laser fire. The sudden plume of fire from the engine of the pirate fighter signaled a hit, the pilot failed to maintain control as it careened into a stray asteroid. Then as he rounded a larger asteroid, an enemy frigate came from the opposite side.

Banking hard right, Thane dodged a collision and turned hard upwards to get behind the frigate. He unlocked his missile tubes and fired right into their pooper. The right engine shorted out and exploded, shredding the left engine and dropping the propulsion power of the frigate to 25%. This allowed one of the Hammerheads to get into line to shred the pirate vessel like cheese.

Kyber would be lying if he said he wasn't having fun, in a scared and bloody way, but nonetheless. When he first ran out of the RAET it was hell. A little over a third of the men were shot down in the middle of their chant. Lucky for the RAETs who arrived later, Kyber and the other squads had set up defensive positions. A combination of ships, scrap metal, and dead bodies. It wasn't very pretty, but the barricades were holding and the Republic was slowly advancing along.

Kyber had just thrown his second grenade when he received a transmission; "Sergeant Salurra, we need your location ASAP!" Kyber frowned and made a "Tch," noise before popping his head out of cover to finish his clip on a few bold pirates who decided to run out. He then spun back around and down, leaning against the barricade before opening up his mic "Me and my men are pinned down on the left side behind a downed enemy fighter. We've set up various defensive positions, but we're getting hammered by numerous mounted turrets! We need support, now! We can rendezvous after we set up an FOB here in the Hangar, for now we need to clear these pirates out or we're going nowhere!"

Kyber flipped off his mic as he lobbed off his second grenade. The grenade bought him some time as he swung his Quietsnipe from his shoulders and dropped to his stomach. He rolled out from the cover as the explosion hit and after the dust settled he popped off one of the men mounting a turret before quickly rolling behind cover, his armor protecting him from a few glances. Kyber took a deep breath and repeated the process one more time, taking out another gunner. However, nothing works perfectly twice in a row. A blaster shot hit the scope of the sniper head on as Kyber was rolling back. He cursed to himself as he slung it back over his shoulder and readied his AR again. This was going to be a tough fight to gain ground.

Slate's squad had arrived last, less blaster fire was focused on them. Running out from the dropship, the unit took refuge behind a stack of crates. Now it was time to start supporting Kyber. Slate signalled for his team to begin suppressive rapid fire on the pirates stupid enough to not be in cover. After releasing a small burst from his weapon, Slate grabbed the comm unit and connected it to Kyber's channel. "Sergeant, me and my squad will begin to damage those mounted turrets. But I don't doubt that afterwards we'll be covered in a blanket of blaster fire, at that point I'll need your team to begin fire and if you're good enough, finish those turrets!"

Before Slate was able to cut the line, a grenade landed by his feet. "Oh shi-" he explained only just managing to kick it from the squad. However not all were spared, the soldier who had being carrying the comm was now laying on the floor in a heap of bloody pulp, and his pointman was in a similar state. Kyber's squad and Slate's were now cut off from eachother, both being at seperate sides of the hangar. The squads at the centre of hangar were now dwindling in size and one-by-one each member was overcome by the blaster fire.

"Alright men, focus on those turrets!" At the sound of the command, the unit of now 4 men stood up and opened fire. Short, accurate bursts shot towards the turrets, most bouncing off and being ineffective. Shortly following the failed attempt the turrets turned and now focused their fire onto Slate's squad.

Meanwhile, the centre squads had now completely disappeared and all that remained in their positions were corpse, many blown open by the red plasma that was being fired from the opposing sides. The situation was bad. Like when they arrived, the allied forces were outmanned and outgunned. The remaining squads would either have to regroup or hold out and wait for reinforcements.

Things were not going well.

All across the station the Republic infantry that had deployed would be facing similar resistance from the pirates in their defensive positions. It was the burden of throwing oneself against the tide, the penance for challenging an enemy that did not wish to be budged. They saw the coming Republic force, and met it with force themselves. Their prepared positions rained death in the form of blaster fire at the Republic Troopers pinned down by the flurry of energy bolts. The calls that made their way back to the fleet grated on Camellia's ears. This bloodshed, was maddening. How many soldiers would be dead at the end of this, and would they even succeed? These thoughts weighed down on her mind as she listened for some looking for new orders, reports on the dead, and requests for reinforcements.

And yet they were not the only people to worry over. The Republic Warships continued their tiresome dance with the pirate vessels. These scum, these lowly murderers and thieves, they should have been defeated easily in a fair fight, but with the asteroid field as an obstacle they were not going down as they should. The game of tag for the Hammerheads finally ended though, as a fighter pilots swooped behind one of the enemy frigates and blew out its starboard engine with concentrated missile fire, and the Republic Frigates closed in and blew apart the rest with their heavy turbolaser fire. Meanwhile the Dreadnought Cruiser continued to wheel about, lumbering through the field at a slower pace, suffering the brunt of the enemy fire as their swifter ships sped about the battlefield and moved through cover. They didn't do much damage with their weaker and fewer guns, but they weren't being hit either, it would be a drawn out battle, would they be hit by the Cruiser's firepower or would they wear it down first? At the very least, as the Hammerheads gained an advantage, they might soon provide aid for the lead Republic vessel.

And finally the starfighter squadrons had their own foes to worry over. However, these perhaps were the section of the Republic Battlegroup that were doing the best. Their spearhead had broken the enemy pirate lines, their fighters scattering the face of suffering heavy casualties beneath the onslaught on the Republic Squadrons assault. Once again the Republic was doing well on the spacefront it seemed. They had capable pilots and each vessel's captain was competent. The environment however, was kinder to them, unless the Republic started crashing into the asteroids they were alright. In this capacity Camellia began to notice she did indeed have more leeway of command opening up. "Squadron leaders keep up the work. The edge you gave us should tip the tide for our warships. Hammerhead Commanders, encircle that last enemy frigate and come about, our Dreadnought isn't getting anywhere its too slow. We'll need to break their coordinated tactics." Signaling for her frequency to be changed to the ground combatants on the pirate base, Camellia tried to think of what could be done for them as the calls came in. "I want all officers keeping their units intact. You have permission to use heavier artillery, plex launchers and high explosives are permitted. Enemy casualties are acceptable if this is the force they respond to us with. . . . ."

Kyber had just finished ripping AR ammo off of a dead trooper next to him as he got the CO's transmission; "I want all officers keeping their units intact. You have permission to use heavier artillery, plex launchers and high explosives are permitted. Enemy casualties are acceptable if this is the force they respond to us with. . . . ." Kyber chuckled a bit to himself as he reloaded his AR and opened up the comms back "Trust me, we don't need your orders to know we're getting out asses handed to us. We started using heavy weapons a long time- GRENADE!" An explosion would be heard over the channel and it cut out to static for a few moments before Kyber got back on the channel, yelling to make sure he's heard over the blaster fire and explosions "UNLESS YOU PLAN ON GETTING DOWN HERE IN THE **** YOURSELF THERE'S NO NEED TO TELL US WHAT WE ALREADY KNOW. WE CAN HANDLE COMMANDING OUR MEN WITHOUT YOU BREATHING DOWN OUR NECKS, MA'AM." Another explosion would be heard in the background, followed by muffled screaming before Kyber cut communication.

Kyber flicked his comm back to Slate's squad only to be greeted with static. Kyber looked across the hanger to try and spot Slate's squad. Once he saw the men laying on the ground he sighed and picked up a piece of shrapnel. Kyber waited until Slate ducked down to safety to reload before turning on his helmet's flashlight and using the shrapnel to get Slate's attention by shining the light on his weapon.

He'd keep doing this until he got Slate's attention before proceeding to use handsignals. He'd make the sign for squad before pointing to Slate, then make the sign for covering fire and point back to a pirate fighter that still seemed to be intact on the other side of the hangar. Kyber finally made a gesture that suggested he was manning a mini-gun and his body was getting kickback, "firing" the imaginary gun in the direction of the turrets pinning them down. After that whole affair he'd nod once briskly to Slate, hoping he received the message. Kyber made sure to wait for a response before doing anything stupid.

You are good, Lieutenant Ke Teldan but you are no Kelly Perris. The Adumarian’s cheeks still burned at the memory of commander Tor’s evaluations of his last exercise. The line had been a simple comment, not meant to be cruel nor delivered that way, but it cut deep into The Prince. I’ve never tried to suggest that I am that good.

He shook his head. No, you wanted it to be self-evident and easily recognized by everyone around you. Reaching out he flicked the starter switches for the x wing’s engines. “Red One has four starts and is a go.” All around him in the cockpit various switches, buttons and screens flashed to life. “Primary and secondary power at full”

Oorly Ogra, his gand wingman, reported similar start up success in a high pitch voice “Red Two is operational”

Red three and four checked in with success, then the Carrier’s hangar bay doors slid open exposing an empty starfield. Red flight would quickly exit the carrier that had been strategically placed out of range of Captain's swift's engagement as planned reserves. They were only a quick jump away from the main battle group. “Boss, have you finished the navigation calculations?”

The red and white R2 unit seated behind Rion hooted, then the nav data spilled out over the Prince’s main monitor. He punched a button sending the same coordinates out to the rest of red flight. “Go to light speed and rendezvous on the Rendili Skies”

As Rion engaged the X-wing’s hypersdrive, the stars elongated into white cylinders, then snapped back into pinpoints and began to resolve slowly, transforming themselves into a tunnel of white light. Rion fought the urge to use the stick to compensate for the roll. In space, especial hyperspace, up and down were relative. How his ship moved through hyperspace really didn’t matter……. As long as it remained on course Boss had calculated and attained sufficient velocity before entering hyperspace to exit out in one piece.

Red Flight had been called up to aid Captain Swift and her Battlegroup as it seemed the said Pirates were offering more of a challenged then previously expected. This was the main reason why carrier reserve forces were staged in such a manner. They were able to spill their fighters at a safe distance and provide the necessary relief for the front lines with the hopes of delivering the coup de grace with overwhelming force.

Stellar pinpoints elongated again as the fighter came out of hyperspace. Off to the port side Rion saw the Rendili skies. Moments later Boss would report the rest of Red flight had arrived. The Fighters checked in.

"Captain Swift! This is Red One reporting in" The Adumarian Prince would hail the Battlegroup commander informing her that her reserve fighters have come to play.

Slate's ears still rang from the explosions he narrowly escaped from, but he would let this slow him down. He had to continue fighting, for his men and all the rest of the soldiers fighting.

Every few seconds Slate pooped his head out of cover and fired controlled bursts from his weapon. With red plasma bolts still raining down onto him, Slate could keep up any sustained fire. He would need more firepower to even scratch those mounted turrets. In between his firing, the soldier would push his back up to his cover and glance to far side of the hangar.

Eventually something caught his eye. An armoured man waving his arms trying to catch the attention of Slate of some other soldiers. The armour belonged to Sergeant Salurra, the fellow soldier Slate had lost contacted to only minutes before. Salurra made a range of gestures, at first Slate couldn't decypher what he was saying. Finally he understood. Kyber needed covering fire as he moved positions to a seemingly untouched fighter located at the centre of the room.

Nodding to his comrade, Slate would begin his attack. His target: the mounted turret.

"Alright men, begin rapid fire on those mounted turret!" As he finished, each of his squad members popped up eother above or around the cover and started their own storm of plasma, rivalling the enemies. However now all the attention was on Slate and his squad, they wouldn't last for long but hopefully it would be long enough for Sergeant Salurra to move up.
