Public A Dark Bidding - [Auction]

A Dark Bidding

THREAD WARNING ⚠ Open thread • Anyone may join • Violence permitted • No ships, fleets, NPCs, NPC swarms, or droid /undead armies
Invitation came from the first whispers that moved through locked collector boards, black-market relay chains, slicer nests, antiquarian circles, and the sort of private channels where dangerous things were never named plainly.

Encrypted underworld boards, and private correspondence stripped of origin were the entry. The message was brief each time it surfaced, as though whoever sent it understood that the less said, the more certain kinds of people would come.

A private auction with open attendance. Serious bidders only. Relics of an uncommon age and questionable grace and origin would be offered.

By the time it reached the wider fringe, the details had already started to warp around it. Sith treasures, Jedi contraband, cursed stones, dead men's masks, keys to places better left unopened. Every retelling and rumor added a little more.

The chosen site sat on Socorro: an abandoned open-air caravan court cut from pale stone and left to the desert years ago. No one local cared much who gathered there after dark. The court was broad, exposed, and easy to approach on foot, ringed by weathered pillars and hanging lanterns that painted the sand in bruised gold. A low platform had been raised for the sale. Long tables stood behind it beneath shrouds of dark cloth.

Whatever was being offered that night, it was no longer a secret. Three pieces in particular had already begun to circulate through the whisper-network and now stood as the evening's foremost prize.

The first was an anomalous blade spoken of only as a Nightsaber, a thing without clear provenance, said in rumor to swallow light, drink in the dark, and answer strangely to those who laid hand upon it. The second was a Soulsaber, infamous in older accounts as a dark-side weapon bound up with corruption, draining force, and harm that bit deeper than flesh.
The third was a Sith Runestone, whispered to carry the sort of influence that did not break a room by violence first, but by turning those within it against one another. They were not the whole of the sale, only the names sharp enough to spread ahead of it. The rest remained veiled. Only the bidding remained.

Avarice moved from table to table, setting out black velvet pillows beneath each of the evening's headlining pieces with care. Those three were only the names sharp enough to spread ahead of the sale.

Once the headliners had been placed, Avarice turned to the remaining lots and drew back more of the dark cloth one piece at a time. There was a sealed Sith holocron of Darth Maltheron, set upon its own cushion beneath a clear warding case; a reclaimed Concordant Crystal, spoken of in older rumor as something that offered the Power of Many and what was claimed to be an Ossus Codex Key, accompanied by a damaged archive rubbing and enough implication to suggest some buried Jedi repository or hidden temple vault still waited for the right hand to find it.

Other pieces remained harder to name cleanly at first glance: A collection of saber hilts and saber fragments gathered from dead Sith, ruined sanctums, and fields where darker things had been left behind. Emitters, pommels, grips, sleeves, guards, ornamented housings; enough to promise one singular weapon to whoever had the coin, to claim it.

A bell rang once from the dais a indicating the start of bidding.
"We begin with the runestone," Avarice said. "A relic said to sour trust, poison judgment, and leave even Jedi looking upon one another with the desire for violence. Do we have any opening offers? "

Well, this truly was a treat. Nexion was going about his usual business, travelling planet to planet, raising the undead, killing people who came to challenge him, seeking out entertainment of any kind. Then, on a planet close by, he had heard of an auction being held by this... fascinating individual. Regardless, when he heard of some rare items being up for auction, he couldn't deny the opportunity to see, bid, potentially own, or at least steal, one or two or three.

Now, he was a tad bemused upon hearing the invitation included a ban on undead armies, but he figured there could have been worse conditions (I.E, undead themselves). So, here he was in the back of the audience as the auction began. His immediate fascination came from the three crown jewels of the night's proceedings, of which he wouldn't mind having all three, but one would do at least.

Seeing nobody move to start things up, he decided to at least get the night rolling. So he raised his hand and spoke, "I highly doubt many know the true value of the item, myself included, but we may as well get things started somehow, mighten we? 5,000."

Now without obligation and free to pursue his own goals and ambitions Oz had found himself intrigued by this auction. Hearing about it from a little bird in his orbit. The host here wasn’t quite what he expected. They seemed like a scrawny little brat. Perhaps a mere apprentice to the actual organizers here, or even just a lowly acolyte.

His attention was kept on the proceedings until he heard a dreadfully familiar voice from his flank. “Well well well, it has been some time since I’ve seen my favorite blue berry out and about.” His fiery eyes looked to his side to see who approached him. A rather tall and imposing white furred male Lepi dressed in fine clothes.

Letting out a sigh Oz forced a cordial smirk and addressed the Lepi. “Sinbad, I’m surprised to see you here as well. I guess they let just about anyone in here so long as they’ve simply dabbled in the dark arts.”

“I could say the same about you, ‘Sith’.” Sinbad replied before stepping next to Oz the two eyeing the current item being auctioned. There was already a bid for it, 5k. What little the pantoran knew about it had already enticed him. So he held up his hand softly and spoke.

“7,000” He really didn’t want to pay an arm and a leg for it however.

Avarice was pleased to see the bidding begin in earnest, opening at five thousand before climbing to seven on the next offer. His crimson gaze settled for a moment on the strange white rabbit speaking at Oz's side, curiosity lingering there just long enough to mark the pair, before his attention returned to Darth Nexion Darth Nexion . A faint smile touched his mouth as he lifted his chin toward the gathered bidders. "Seven thousand," he echoed smoothly, letting the number hang beneath the lantern light. "Do I hear ten?"

Nexion allowed himself a smirk as he removed his suit's jacket, leaving him in just his pure black shirt and tie; this was going to be an interesting night, or at least this event woukd be. He raises his hand, in response to the upped bid, "Ten".

Nexion looked over at the other bidder, curious if they would up the bid once more, or if they'd give up so early. Though, he supposed they may be saving the bulk of their money for other items. Still, he was curious how long the small item on display currently would last, and how much the final price would be.

The smirk on Oz’s face narrowed some as the price crept up some. “Hmm… seems you might have some competition for that little trinket.” Said the Lepi standing at his side.

“Shush… I’m concentrating.” Oz snapped back. He wasn't really, there wasn’t much to think about other than how much he had on him to spend. A good deal of his fortunes were lost after his capture so he was almost needing to start over in building up his wealth. Which were never really of much concern to him until moments like these.

He wanted the runestone, the other items he could do without. The pantoran let out a sigh before finally raising the price once more. “15…” A whole fifty percent increase, and over double the price of his orginal bid. Part of him wondered though, why were these things in auction. Relics like these were more often coveted and safe guarded by other Sith. His eyes went to the young looking echani. Wondering if their masters had a scheme in mind. Then back to the other bidder. Perhaps they had a role to play here as well. Or he could just be getting paranoid.

"My, my… it would seem the ability to turn sanctimonious Jedi against one another in the cafeteria is a coveted little treasure indeed. Fifteen thousand to the blue fellow. Do I hear any further bids, or has that display frightened off the room?"

He had, thus far, been pleasantly surprised; none of the men had tried to stab him, snatch up the artifacts, or appear as some self-righteous do-gooder, all eager indignation and meddling where it was neither wanted nor welcome.

THE AUCTION HOUSE

The Cathar liked these auctions, even when she didnt win, she liked the feel of everyone chasing some strange item amd throwing money at the promise of an incremental gain in power. She walked through the door and the woman accompanying her, a human, about nineteen if it mattered and carrying several of Shay's own possessions.

She human pointed nervously at the sign on the door. "Mistress, I dont think I can enter"

The sith stood closer and read it to herself, running her tongue against her teeth. "Don't flatter yourself, you are so unimportant you arent even an NPC, come, and if someone complains I will simply tell them you are for sale." she said in a neutral tone before walking in and looking around. She picked up her bidding card.

It was a few.minutes later when people were bidding on the dark bauble. The bid was with Oz Neru Oz Neru . She considered it for a moment before raising a clawed finger. "Eighteen thousand." she said to Avarice Avarice with a smile.

Nexion looked over to the newcomer, smirking at the bid, intrigued as to how much others would be willing to go for the small artifact in front of them. Such a strange thing, that such a small thing is the cause of so much drama. But, Nexion didn't much care, so he raised his hand once more.

"20 thousand". He didn't much care if he won out in the end, he was simply wanting to see how far the others wanted it. Whether they would figure that out, well, that was another aspect of the show's entertainment, wasn't it.

Twenty thousand was just about the cusp of what Oz would be willing to pay for such an item. His smirk flattened out until it turned into a shallow frown. His fiery eyes drifted over to the stray cat that had also wandered into the bidding and added to the growing price.

The pantoran lowered his head some, knowing that he only had a few thousand more Underworld Credits available to spend here and knew that he wouldn’t likely be able to purchase anything else here after it. “Twenty two thousand” Oz raised the price a little more knowing that he wouldn’t really be able to go any higher than that.

“Oh thank goodness…” Oz muttered from under his breath softly. Noting to himself that he was gonna need to find a way to build up his wealth once more for things like this. Money was almost never a problem for himself, a few firm words and the wave of a hand and he could get just about anything he wanted from lesser people.

“I do hope you weren’t falling victim to the sunken cost fallacy. You don’t even know what other goodies and toys they’ll be auctioning off.” The Lepi said to Oz, still standing by his side. The Pantoran Sith didn’t respond before walking forwards to collect the stone.

Standing before the small apprentice, he glared down at them. His fiery eyes narrowed some in scrutiny. Noting the distinct redness of their eyes as opposed to the more blazing orangy hues common among Sith. Something felt off to him. “There’s no surprise fees or sales tax is there?” He questioned.
