Private A Clash of Minds

Jedi Temple, Tython
Archives

Aris Noble Aris Noble

Time lately had started to be a drag.

There was really only so many times that you could walk through the same halls without getting sick of them. And Valoria had long since passed that point.

She longed to get out of the Temple. To go anywhere, do anything that was beyond the reaches of this place. that, however, much to her annoyance, was not an option for her. Instead, she had to be content with this endless pattern of aimless wandering. All day. Every day.

More often than not, she found herself within the Temple's archives. They were as good a place as any. Probably one of the better places to be. Hours could be lost in there, simply to walking between the aisle, skimming the titles for the articles you desire. It really did feel like an endless well of knowledge, one which Valoria doubted she'd even begun to reach below the surface of.

It was this very place that she found herself today.

As usual, there was no specific reason she was there. It's not like she had any current assignments or anything. In many ways, she wished she did have an assignment, so that she could at least feel like she was doing something productive towards her training. Not that what she was doing wasn't productive, it just wasn't quite as productive as she would've liked. Absent mindedly, she made her way towards the languages section.

Her recent encounters had brought to light the fact that it would probably be wise to learn the Flesh Raider's tongue. Especially considering she would be stuck on Tython for the foreseeable future. She made her way into the aisle, taking little notice of anyone else in the space.

No doubt they'd take little notice of her either.

The Archives were a place Aris just enjoyed being in. Knowledge, learning, a part of him was practically made for such things, which might be more accurate and real than he wanted to admit. Right now? It was focused on figuring out the Fleshraiders. There was a lot that happened he hadn't expected, which only meant he didn't know enough. And that someone else didn't know enough.

He paused as he pulled down one of the books, glancing to a familiar Twi'lek. She'd been on the same expedition as he had. Was that why she was here?

".. You find anything useful, yet?"

Valoria turned, startled. She hadn't been expecting anyone to approach her.

The boy who'd gained her attention was familiar. She'd seen him recently, on a local expedition, although she never came around to speaking with him properly. Or even so much as introducing herself. She did remember thinking he was a little stuck up though. Stuck up and authorial, that had been the initial perception she'd made of him.

Still, she gave him a practised smile.

"Not yet, no." Valoria replied, tone friendly but neutral.

Her gaze flickered to the book in his hands. Great. It was exactly the one she'd been after.

"I see you've had no troubles finding something though." She remarked, swallowing the annoyance that would've otherwise crept into her tone.

She wasn't one to complain or make fusses. It was fine. If he was going to take that book out, she could just find something else. It wasn't like her life depended upon it. It wasn't an issue. It was simply inconvenient. She could just read it another time.

It was completely, totally, one hundred percent fine.

If there was anything Aris had gotten much better at, it was understanding how others were feeling. Like right now, he could tell she wasn't actually smiling. She wasn't comfortable around him. Was it because of who his parents were? .. Was it because of who his grandfather was, like how Azurine Varek Azurine Varek still couldn't properly look his way?

His expression softened, not that many people could even tell as much. He was as expressionless as ever, much too calm as if he had no emotion to display.

"No, I suppose I haven't. Would you like to have it? I've already looked through it."

With how his mind worked, that was enough for him to remember it completely. And maybe this way she wouldn't be uncomfortable around him.

His lack of emotion was almost unsettling to Valoria. It carried an odd sense of calamity, one which didn't exactly feel settled, but still peaceful. It was curious.

"You've already looked through it?" Her voice carried a tone of suprise. Although, she really shouldn't be surprised, consdering he'd been on that trip too.

But she hadn't really been expecting to run into anyone else reading up on the same thing. The archive were so vast that the chances of it had seemed impossible.

"I mean, if you don't want it I'll have it, but I don't need it or anything. I can find something else to pour my mind over."

She was joking with that last statement.

For the most part of it, at least.
