A change in Allegiance (Redo)

The Kessel sector had always been a volatile place. The planet of Kessel itself took the dodginess to the next level--that was to say, the whole planet was basically one giant tantooine cantina, on a bad day. In fact, Assadar thought that it was probably the center of the corruption that filled the entire region of space.

His assignment was a straightforward one. Such a hive of scum and villainy could be easily exploited by the Sith, and he was here to size up just how well the planet could be manipulated for their purposes. Either that, or they were still trying to get him killed.

He had to admit, the Acklay he had fought of Vendaxa put most of these wretched pirates and smugglers to shame. Still, unlike Vendaxa, he was here alone. Alone, of course, save for his astro droid.

"Beep bop boop bop."

"Well, of course it smells!" hissed Assadar irritably. The droid had been referring to the cantina in which they presently resided, which happened to be one of the worst so far. Despite its drawbacks, the venue was an excellent place to hear conversation--well, if you had a droid who could identify and separate each individual's voice and store that data for analysis, anyway.

Right now, he wasn't interested in using Z-1's abilities, however (though he did find it amusing that Z-1's impressive audio capabilities were so apt for his overly-chatty nature.) He was here because he had sensed the one thing he had not expected to find here--another force-user.

He was still learning to use his abilities to sense other beings, but this person's signature was so strong, so different, that it had been impossible to miss. Its owner was sitting at a table, alone, in the very corner of the cantina, wearing a hooded robe. Assadar knew better than to approach an unknown and apparently very usual force user without knowing anything about him, so he settled to sit down on the other side of the room and observe. Perhaps someone would come to meet the stranger, and Z-1 could record their conversation. In the meantime, though, Assadar had a distinct feeling that the stranger was looking right back at him out of the corner of his eye.

"Z-1," Assadar murmured, "I don't know who that man is, but he's a force user alright. Isolate his audio signature and record everything he says." Assadar knew that if a force user was on the planet, their business was going to be important.

His musings were interrupted by a trandoshan, who approached him with his fists raised, looking very dangerous and very drunk. He pointed in the general direction of a man sitting across the room, who was watching them intently. The lizard man opened his mouth. The resulting voice, hampered by both the trandoshan's difficulty in speaking basic and his current state, was translated with some difficulty to the words "he doesn't like you."

Assadar nodded.

"I don't like you either." he continued.

Great. Thought Assadar, his hand drifting down to his blaster.

"You should watch yourself." said the Trandoshan. "I have the death sentence on twelve planets."

"Then consider me an officer of the law." said Assadar. The trandoshan didn't have time to get the joke before he was lying on the floor, a smoking hole in his chest. The occupants of the cantina turned and stared for a few seconds, then lost interest and went back to their chatter.

"Oi!" yelled the owner. "No shootin's in doors!"

"You'll make an exception." said Assadar, waving his hand casually, slipping his blaster back into his robes. Though he had come to rely on it less since his training on Vendaxa, he still never failed to wear it. It was incredibly useful, for example, when he was less than willing to let the whole place know that he was a Sith. Epsecially the man in the corner.

"I'll make an exception." he replied dutifully, a glazed look in his eyes.

Kessel: Cantina

A shrouded man sat in a corner in a local cantina on Kessel. His index finger traced over his glass as a twi'lek waitress came over to fill it again. His gaze with the twi'lek briefly and she turned away to continue her next order to the neighboring tables. His gaze stayed on the twi'lek's rear when she walked off as if showing interest but his stoic look did not leave a hint of it. His eyes then dropped back to the man across the room and his droid. He knew they were watching him with intent. He allowed his force signature to be noticed to see his reaction in the presence of another force user. He knew he was. He could see it, too. He lifted his glass finally and put it to his lips, tasting its fluid.

Two trandoshans eventually came over to his table treating him like a pushover. It didn't take him long to dispatched them with a pistol. The cantina's owner seemed outraged by it but quickly dismissed it. Odd. You'd think they'd allow such a mess left on the floor of a cantina where people enjoyed their meals and drink. The man holstered his blaster and reconnected with the Sith's eyes. His glass left his lips and was placed on the table gently.

Assadar continued to watch the man as discreetly as he could, but nobody talked to him. After a while, he called a fairly attractive Twi'lek waiter over.

"That man." said Assadar. "Who is he?"

"Oh, he's an odd one." she said, sounding slightly miffed. "He's not a regular. He's only ordered one drink! I think it's bad manners to--"

"Has he seen anyone?" asked Assadar, cutting her off.

"No." the twilek said, sounding satisfied. "Just sits in the corner, alone. That's what you get for bad busine--"

She was once again interrupted--but now by the angry roar of yet another Trandoshan. Unfortunately, this one had just walked in through the door, surrounded by a group of six assorted aliens, all of them a lot bigger than Assadar.

Assadar tried to look casual as they approached him. He noted that they all carried weapons--some blasters, some electrostaffs.

"You." said the lead, who didn't sound so drunk as the last one. "You killed our brother."

Assadar eyed them all up. "Brother?" he asked inquisitively.

"Blood brother." he corrected. "Which means now we take your blood and drink it." The group all laughed appreciatively.

"Come now, gentlemen, is that really necessary?" despite his calm and collected exterior, Assadar was worried. There was no way he was going to beat this lot with a blaster.

It happened very fast. Z-1 said something very rude. The trandoshans probably didn't understand it, but in response the lead one whipped out his blaster and shot the droid. Z-1 made a textbook scream, as his head whirled around, electricity arced through his body. He tipped over with a loudclang. Assadar's lightsaber flashed out, and the trandoshan's head hit the floor with a thunk.

Before the others could respond, Assadar lashed out at the trandoshan to the right, cutting him down. The Trandoshan to the left drew his sword and raised it high, but Assadar's hand flashed out and he was sent flying across the room. He hit the wall and slumped to the ground, knocked out cold. The two remaining trandoshans drew blasters and fired. Assadar deflected the bolts while the remaining Trandoshan charged. Assadar blocked the lizard's flurry of blows and then whirled around, running him through. He closed the remaining distance between him and the remaining two in one graceful motion, slashing one then the other with his lightsaber. Both fell to the ground, dead.

The whole cantina was staring at him in utter silence now. Lightsabers, Assadar decided, were probably not so commonly seen here.

Kessel: Cantina

The conflict stirred before him with exchanges of blaster fire and turning of furniture. Eventually, a saber was ignited and flourished in the fray to quickly dispatch the trandoshan gang. He didn't budge, just watched until it all ended. He rose his glass again and took another swig as the cantina fell silent looking at the boy. He placed his glass back down and sucked his teeth before placing the credits on the table. He casually stood from his seat and headed towards the door.

Assadar looked down at his droid and cursed. Z-1 was going to need some serious repairing, and how he was supposed to cart him off the planet was beyond him. One thing was for sure though--however annoyed he was by Z-1, he wasn't leaving his only friend. Rising, the strode over to the owner of the cantina. Every eye on the room was on him.

"You will have this droid repaired immediately." he said, waving his hand and pouring all of his concentration into hte mind trick. Apparently, the man was fairly thick, and easy for Assadar to control--though he didn't doubt that the bartender's abject fear helped.

"I'll find a mechanic right away." he agreed.

"You will then keep him safe until I return for him. You will ensure that he is fully functional by the time I return. You may expect me tomorrow." Assadar finished. The man echoed his words, a glazed look in his eyes.

With that, Assadar swept out of the bar behind the other force user.
