Aurum
A hidden lake somewhere in the forest beyond Aurum City

The sun beat down upon the forest on Aurum’s surface. However, the thick green canopy of trees filtered out most of the heat, leaving the clearing beneath pleasantly warm. The sweet, soothing bouquet of flora wafted gently in the slight breeze, accompanying the golden specs of pollen and dust. Complementing the atmosphere was a soft symphony of bird and animal calls, as creatures sang to one another across the forest floor and through the trees.

It was easy to see why this was one of Sahna’s favourite places to be. It was a place of peace. Now, the young Togruta sat on the grass, the glittering blue lake stretching out before her. Whilst Sahna had in fact brought a blanket, it remained folded beside her, the young woman sitting instead on the grass. She’d shed her outer robe and shoes, feeling the grass between her toes. Next to the folded blanket sat a basket, filled with food and drinks. All in all, it appeared she had quite the pleasant afternoon ahead of her.

As she sat, her hands splayed behind her in the grass, legs stretched out before her, she cast her mind to those whom she had invited. She has surprised herself by inviting anyone at all; the fearful Togruta highly valued her solitude, especially in this place. But Jyn was her teacher and her first friend since she had found Aurum, and Ar’ekk, another newcomer, was someone she’d wanted to get to know a little better. She hadn’t had much of a chance to speak to either of late, as Ignis had kept her busy with training and meditating. But a free afternoon had appeared, with pleasant weather to boot, she had found there was only one way she’d wanted to spend it.

Sahna listened to the wildlife around her as she closed her large blue eyes, wondering how the two had reacted to the notes she’d left, and how far away they might be.

Approaching the Lake

As she did each and every day, Jyn had set out into the jungles surrounding Azar City that morning with a spring in her step. Typically it was toward the Sanctuary that her feet brought her, to see Louie and the others, and while she would be sure to visit them before the day was done for once her feet led her elsewhere. To a region she had not stepped foot in before. Thankfully the note which had been left on her bed included detailed directions on where to go.

She was unaware of the fact that anyone else had been sent for, even though she and [member='Arekk'] shared quarters one was often up before the other. Typically they made plans to see one another for lunch, but today it didn't look as though she would be carrying out that arrangement. Hopefully he would understand.

The sound of the wind through the treetops had her smiling, a soft intake of air providing her with a moment to really take in and enjoy her surroundings, and moments later she broke through into the small clearing which was covered by a canopy of leaves overhead.

And there she was, the young Togruta she had found back on Taris. Jyn had barely seen [member='Sahna Te'] since bringing her to Aurum but truthfully the woman saw that as a blessing. It meant that she was settling in, making friends, keeping busy, and learning. No more hardship for her to endure, at least not on a day to day basis. It was all that Jyn could ask for and more.

Approaching the lakeside, where the girl sat with blanket and basket to boot, Jyn inclined her head softly into a bow and smiled.

"Serene, isn't it?" she breathed, breaking the silence enough to make her presence known without disturbing the peace too badly. After all this seemed to be a sanctuary of sorts for the girl, and Jyn knew how important such things were. Her mind wandered back to Atrisia, to the forests she and Fuz had hidden away in whenever the Inquisition was too frightful or overwhelming. She had never minded when [member='Tirdarius'] found them there, mostly because he remained respectful of her decision to find solitude there.

Had he sought to wrench her from that place, she did not know how she would have reacted. They were trying times, after all, when her mind was fraught with paranoia.

How far she had come since then.

Waking up to the sweet breeze of Aurum was always a very soothing experience for Ar'ekk.

The sudden change from smoke filled rooms and obnoxious noises coming from the slot machines to the chirping of birds and the calm waters of the city were a welcome change. It was different. Peaceful.

A note was left behind when he woke up to grab a glass of water with directions to a familiar place, one where he met a young fearful Togruta when going for a swim at the lake. Their conversation was interesting and they owed themselves another chatter, a much more friendly and happy one this time. It also meant that Jyn would be there too.

Ar'ekk walked cautiously between the trees until he neared the lakeside, spotting both the Togruta and the girl sitting in the grass. To their sides laid a basket and a blanket.

A picnic, nice!

"Peaceful. The water is perfect for a swim. Right, Sahna?"

The young man took a deep breath as he appreciated the sorroundings, wildlife going about their usual business. It was truly a symphony of different animals which are too many to name.

A beautiful thing to hear and witness.

Sahna turned, a smile breaking out onto her face as she spotted her rescuer approaching from the floral undergrowth. Her first friend, one of the people she looked up to, smiled at her as she approached. The togruta pulled herself to her feet and returned the bow, dipping her head a little lower than Jyn had. It brought her great joy to see that the woman had made it this afternoon. She knew that Jyn was constantly busy, what she also knew that there was likely much more going on for her than what appeared on the surface. As a result, Sahna had left the note not entirely sure if she'd even receive a reply. She found her heart leapt with joy as she saw that the woman had made time for her, just to spend a little time with her.

Jyn spoke, observing the serenity. Sahna nodded, taking a few moments to inhale deeply and hold it for a few moments before letting out her breath in a long sigh. Jyn was right. As exciting and interesting as the city could be, it was noisy, busy, and altogether anything but serene. Out here, though?

"It absolutely is." She replied quietly.

The girl moved to unfold the blanket. Taking two of the corners, she took several steps back and flung it into the air, instantly lowering herself into a bow as she brought the blanket down onto the grass, letting it settle upon the ground. As she stepped back, dusting her hands together, the togruta turned towards a sound from the jungle beyond. Once again, a smile broke out onto her face as she spied her other guest.

She raised one arm to beckon him over, nodding at his words.

"I know I haven't been here all that long," she began, "but so far, it seems like almost every day, this water is perfect for a swim."

She chuckled, before lowering herself to her knees upon the blanket. She motioned for the two to follow her, before reaching over to pull the basket towards her. Her intention was to have it sit between the three of them as she opened it up.

Sahna was by no means a chef, nor was she much of a connoisseur of fine foods and beverages. But she knew what she liked. Inside the basket were a few hot thermoses of soup, some wrapped cucumber sandwiches, and a few bottles of something sweet and bubbly, she couldn't remember the name but she'd discovered it on Aurum and fallen in love with it instantly.

Her bounty displayed before her, the togruta grinned at her guests,

"Thank you for both making it," her voice was soft and hushed, as always, but seemed almost fringed with excitement, "but please, dig in!"

Without needing to give it much more thought, once she had approached Sahna and the girl had finished wafting out the blanket for them to sit upon, Jyn reached out and pulled the Togruta into a soft embrace.

It had been far too long, and so much had happened since they'd last truly spent time with one another. Losing Asha, even if it was only for a few months, had been devastating, and now she could not help but picture what would happen if the same thing happened to [member='Sahna Te'] or [member='Arekk'].

As if hearing her thoughts, the latter made himself known.

Shaken from the route her mind had taken she turned her head toward him and almost hurriedly rushed over to where he stood. Her arms wrapped around him lovingly, a kiss settled to his shoulder as she nestled in close and let out a soft sigh.

"I didn't expect to see you here," she whispered, with a gentle smile, before walking with him back to the blanket where Sahna had finished setting up a wonderful smelling lunch.

"You did all of this, for us?" she inquired, as she took a seat in one of the spots and grinned at the girl, "I am immensely grateful."

He embraced Jyn tightly by wrapping both arms around her waist, gently pressing his lips against her temple. Clearing out a braid of hair that had gotten on the way, his fingers ran down her cheek and the warmest of smiles was brought up on his face. The setting, the lake, the picnic and the company was life's way of making things perfect.

Birds chirped like no tomorrow, the wildlife of Aurum was singing their hearts out that morning. A tone of serenity and tranquility took over the tall trees and vast jungle. Preserving what was left and making it grow for the future was key but for now it was their time to enjoy.

"I thought you left me that note."

Clearly he confused the meaning behind the note left behind in their suite back at the academy but who could blame him? The entire day was too beautiful to be spent indoors and Jyn knew how much Ar'ekk preferred to be outside. His stomach grumbled as his gaze laid upon the sandwiches laid out in the blanket.

"This is a a kind gesture I will never forget, trust me."

Sahna smiled broadly as Ar'ekk approached, wrapping Jyn into a warm embrace.

It occurred to her that she had not seen a lot of love in the galaxy before finding sanctuary on Aurum. Of course, docking ports and cargo holds were not exactly the best place to go looking for such, and it was not like she had given it much thought while tucked away in a smuggler's hole or huddled behind crates. But here, in this city, on this planet, she began to notice it more and more. It was, she had decided, part of the planet's beauty. Aurum seemed to be a place where such could flourish, at least from her perspective.

She chuckled as the young man spied the food and his stomach announced its approval. Her own growled in reply. She had spend the entire morning preparing the spread, completely forgetting to eat herself before she had come here. Honestly, her nerves had quelled her appetite somewhat. Even as far as she had come already, the girl still felt the pangs of fear whenever she left her quarters.

But she was glad she had face and conquered her fear today.

Sahna sat cross-legged on the blanket, gazing from Ar'ekk and Jyn to the basket of food, to the lake in front of them. Yes, this was definitely worth the effort she'd put in.

"It's only returning kindness I've already been shown, Ar'ekk." She replied to him. She leaned back, closing her eyes and tilting her head towards the sky. Her montrals, a little long for a girl her age, rested over her shoulders. For once she didn't even lift a hand to stroke them, as she was no doubt known to do when she was nervous. Sahna waited for the two to sit with her on the blanket before she would open her eyes and pull herself forwards again. She made no move to reach for the food, instead waiting for the others to go in first.

"How have you both been?" She asked, "I feel like it has been far too long since we've had a chance to actually speak."

Indeed, it had been far too long. She had done so much she wanted to tell them about, especially Jyn, she could only imagine how much more her friends had done since they'd last spoken.

[member="Arekk"] | [member="Jyn Sol"]

It struck her then that if [member='Arekk'] was here, and she was here, then Kipo was likely alone in their room causing havoc. The thought of it horrified her for a moment, before a light and unoffending chuckle left her lips. The little guy was probably passed out on their bed in a puddle of dried friuts, food coma'd to the nines.

He had poor impulse control where food was concerned. Her eyes drifted to Ar'ekk in that moment. Wonder who he gets that from...

She grinned, hearing the sound of grumbling stomachs, and looked across to [member='Sahna Te'] who she could sense was holding back. Jyn knew why, of course, there was a lot of formalities that members of this Order liked to stick to, and seeing a guest fed and watered before you took so much as a sip or bite looked to be one of them.

In order to keep the poor girl from starving, Jyn reached out and plucked up a sandwich.

"I've been well, my dear; you're right it has been much too long. I hear you and [member='Ignis Imura'] have been tending to your Trials. I'm proud of you, sweet one."

The idea of Kipo being left alone in their room only dawned on him after they got to the lake, remembering seeing him playing on their bed and nibbling some fruit before departing.

Creating a havoc or not was always a gamble with the little fat monkey, hopefully everything would be okay when they returned home.

Seeing the opportunity to grab a sandwich, Ar'ekk did his best to get one after Jyn did. Seizing the chance to devour one of those delicious sandwiches prepared by the friendly Sahna, the man's stomach continued to grumble until he took the first bite.

He remained in silence briefly as the two girls conversated, excluding that moment when he commented on how delicious the food was.

"This tastes wonderful, Sahna. Thank you!

Sahna let out a long, contented sigh as Jyn and Ar'ekk both took sandwiches from the basket and began to eat.

There was something uniquely satisfying about preparing food that was well-received by others. It was a way of sharing something from the heart, a way of communicating, almost. Sahna felt her smile widen. She was glad she had decided to do this. Everyone had been so busy lately it was nice to simply slow down and catch up with a few friends. And yes, she had made friends, true friends, while she was here.

She nodded at Jyn, holding herself back from reaching for food until she had answered her,

"We have. I still have a long way to go, but he is an excellent teacher." She felt her cheeks grow warm, she was blushing.

The girl cleared her throat, turning to Ar'ekk.

"You're most welcome, Ar'ekk!" She replied.

Finally, Sahna reached into the basket, pulling out a sandwich for herself. As a togruta, she was almost solely carnivorous, and seldom ate anything that was not meat. But... she had heard good things about these cucumber sandwiches. Picking one from the basket, she brought it to her lips, pausing for just a moment before sinking her sharp teeth into the soft bread. A small noise escaped her, oh boy, these were good.

[member='Sahna Te'] had come so far from where she had been when Jyn found her in that swamp.

She could see her confidence was growing, she felt more at peace within herself, and around others, and was truly beginning to flourish. The fact that she had bit the bullet and invited them out here, to a place which was clearly sacred - a sanctuary, so to speak - was a testament to that fact.

While the young girl spoke Jyn took a bite out of her sandwich and smiled. Just as refreshing as she remembered them being. She had spent so much time traveling as of late, arranging things for the Order and recruiting new blood, that she had quite forgotten what it was to have a nice meal made of natural ingredients in place of ship rations.

She could see the girl blush, even if she hadn't been able to feel her embarrassment at the subject, and simply gave the girl a knowing smile. If Sahna and Ignis were becoming closer, as the case may have been, then Jyn could only think of all the good which would come of it. They would balance one another out, bring out the best in each other, polar opposites in many ways yet complimenting also. Jyn was happy for them.

"Have you given any thought to where you'd like to focus your efforts, once your trials are completed?"

While she didn't wish to make this lovely afternoon together all about progress and trials, she could not help but be curious. She looked across to [member='Arekk'], as though indicating that the question applied to him also.

His hands held the biggest sandwich out of the bunch, hunger clearly getting the best of him. That made him feel a little bad about himself for getting away with a massive one but even then, biting a big chunk of the delicious food made it better.

Ar'ekk made sure not to make too much noise while Sahna and Jyn had a friendly conversation, staying in the shadow for the time being as if he didn't want to interrupt or be a nuissance.

Once the question uttered by his girlfriend sounded open-ended and directed towards himself as well, that's where he grabbed a napkin and wiped his mouth.

So dorky.

"I think that offering lightsaber training classes would be alright. I'm pretty comfortable doing that, just like with Cecilia earlier."

After years of hard training and mastering some of the different types of forms, something good had to come out of that. Making sure that everyone learned his ways and techniques was wonderful and lightened his heart in ways you couldn't understand, a certain proud sensation to have a person learn what you've been taught and become good at it.

That's purpose.

Pride.

Sahna devoured the sandwich.

She had never really bothered with food that didn’t have some sort of meat in it, but these were incredible. She reached for another as Jyn spoke, turning her large blue eyes up to the woman who had rescued her. The question gave Sahna pause. She’d only begun her trials recently and had only completed two so far. “The Great Journey” was a fitting name, she’d decided, as it seemed to be an almost insurmountable task. However, for once, she actually did know what she wanted,

“Actually,” She began, taking a moment to finish her mouthful, “I have. I think I could do the most good in Mahara Kesh. I… I like to heal.”

She nodded, more to herself than to Jyn, as if affirming to herself what she’d said. She chuckled as Arekk wiped his mouth with a napkin and replied as well. She bit her bottom lip. Eventually the time would come for Sahna herself to learn how to wield a lightsaber. But as with all her trials and tests so far, she would tackle that when it came.

“Maybe I could… get a few pointers one day.” She smiled softly.

One day, perhaps, when she had a lightsaber to actually hold and practice with… eventually.

"Stav Kesh, and Mahara Kesh... Interesting. Unless you'd rather your efforts over at Padawan Kesh, Querido, teaching Younglings instead of Journeyers."

She grinned at that thought, how amusing it would be to have [member="Arekk"] swarmed by children each day. She doubted he would even be able to handle one, though how wrong she was on that she wouldn't discover for another few weeks yet.

"Asha knows how to heal, at least better than I do, or you could hunt down Master Vo though I know she is busy monitoring Master Aotirr as of late. But still, enough of such talks, forgive me for derailing the conversation."

Pouring a small cup of soup to sip on, Jyn took a moment to simply enjoy their surroundings. To breathe in the serenity around them. Truly she felt honoured to have been made privy of Sahna's little slice of heaven out here in the Jungle.

"How are you liking Aurum, sweet thing? Have you had a chance to meet the Sanctuary animals yet?"

"Don't get me wrong, I like to teach but... A bunch of younglings trying to be taught is a hardous task."

Truth be told, if he was asked to teach a group of Je'daii children about the Force he would gladly do it as a token of his appreciation for everything they've done for him and Jyn.

Even then, Ar'ekk was not built for that type of job and would rather focus on something else that could take advantage of his entire potential.

He continued to munch his delicious sandwich, crumbs falling down on his pants and patting off so they would fall into the green grass. The lake was peaceful as always and a sudden urge of going for a swim abruptly crossed his mind.

"That's an interesting path, Sahna. I like it."

Sahna let out a soft sigh of content as Jyn spoke. It was so nice to have some time to just sit and enjoy one another's company without there being any time constraints or other pressing matters. Out here, right now, it was just the three of them, the lake, and nothing else could come in and ruin it right now. She chuckled as the woman pulled herself up and hid behind a small cup of soup. Sahna just chuckled,

"Please, Jyn, I always enjoy listening to you." She replied with a smile, finishing off her sandwich.

The woman then asked if she'd visited the animal sanctuary. She hadn't yet, but it had been something she'd been meaning to get around to. She remembered little Kippo on Jyn's ship. She had begun to draw designs in her room for a ship on her own, and every single one she'd done, had ended up with small doodles of animals in the margins. It seemed that every time she thought about the vessel, she was piloting it with a small companion on her shoulder. Perhaps she ought to make more of an effort to get down there.

"Not yet," she answered, "but I sorely wish to go. Maybe I'll head down later this afternoon."

She turned to Arekk, smiling as he spoke. She recalled how terrifying he had seemed the first time the two had met, at this very lake in fact. It was here, now, with sandwich crumbs on his mouth, that she saw how much of a teddy bear he really was. Reaching for a thermos of tea, she smiled at him,

"Thank you. So..." I glanced between the two of them, blushing a little, "how did this happen?"

I waved my finger playfully between them, knowing full well that the playful question might very well be met with the equally playful confrontation of my crush on Ignis. It wasn't exactly the subtlest of things, after all. Still, I was interested, they had a really sweet relationship.

[member="Arekk"] | [member="Jyn Lorr"]

"I have faith in the both of you; I am certain you shall do wonders regardless of which path you choose to take."

She was proud of them all, Sahna and Ar'ekk, and Ignis, and all of the others who had been working so hard to face their trials and grow as both Je'daii and individuals. They had faced hardships, yet look at them now: Sahna was bristling with confidence, at least around those she had come to trust, Ignis was managing his emotions and had begun to truly embody the ideals of their Order, and her Querido... He had battled with the temptations of light and dark, and was finally at peace within himself.

Nar Shaddaa and Taris felt like an eternity ago.

"I'll let the Sanctuary workers know. They can give you a full tour, let you meet Louis within his enclosure. He'll be happy to have a new friend."

Sahna's question caught her momentarily off guard, and she did something she did not often do: she blushed.

"Ar'ekk and I met on Coruscant, several years ago now... And from there we just seemed to keep running into each other. It was as though the Force itself brought us together..."

Maybe that was a silly notion, but it definitely felt that way.

"Yeah... And I'm glad it did. You've got no idea, Sahna."

Sincerity poured from his heart in this moment of tranquility, his life was saved from complete destruction in different occasions by the wonderful woman sitting besides him. In their darkest moments, the two of them stood together firmly and clinged to each other for comfort.

Love saved them from dispair futures and set them on the path of balance.

The sandwich in his hand disappeared in a handful of minutes due to his peculiar way of eating fast and became saddened after he realized it was gone, obviously laughing it off.

His eyes set on the Togruta in front of him, smiling from ear-to-ear.

"What about you?"
