OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: Writing up a merc group to add some fun lore and might be utilized later.
  • Image Credit: Storm Troopers are some unused art from Force Awakens (X), The Symbol is a Self-edited version of (X)
  • Role: Mercenary Group able to be hired by anyone, hope to make an antagonist in later stories
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Links: The Bulwark
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Unit Name: The 202nd Legion, Anaxes' Might, Chrome Heads
  • Affiliation: Themselves, Employers.
  • Classification: Elite Infantry with mechanized support
  • Equipment: Auxis-1313 Heavy Armor, K-77 Kommandant Class Armor

  • Description: The 202nd Legion is the remnants of one of the old clone legions of the Clone Wars. With the fall of the Empire, these soldiers turned to acting as mercenaries for Imperial Remnants and Warlords and soon branched out to whoever would hire them. Highly professional, skilled, and with a near-legendary reputation of always honoring their contracts and never betraying their employers, the 202nd Legion is a force not to be reckoned with.
COMBAT INFORMATION:
  • Unit Size: Large
  • Unit Availability: Rare
  • Unit Experience: Trained
  • Combat Function: The 202nd Legion is trained in a variety of front line tactics as well as population suppression and control. They are renowned for their ability to fortify and control even the most undefendable of terrain, often bringing mobile forts or fast trench digging equipment. Few engage with the 202nd due to the horrors of trench warfare, and that many militaries across the galaxy are far more used to faster-paced campaigns and have difficulty dealing with the impenetrable lines of the Legion. The Legion's tactics on population control are incredibly brutal, enforcing strict martial law, heavy taxation of the local populace, and mass executions or the denying of medical supplies whenever the populace attempts to rebel or crime becomes too high.

Strengths:

Might of Jango: Although the clones that founded the 202nd have long since passed into ancient myth and memory, their training and beliefs have been passed down through the ages. Much of the 202nd is shaped after the old clone and stormtrooper legions, individuals preferring unit numbers and nicknames as replacements for their old names before joining the 202nd. The military training of Jango has also been passed down, with young teenagers being brought on as recruits and put through a gauntlet that not all survive in order to be shaped into Iron Troopers of the 202nd Legion, the Might of Anaxes.

Durable Resolve: Not once in their long history reaching back to the republic has the 202nd ever surrendered. Fighting to the last trooper, the 202nd will do all they can to achieve their objective or take as many of the enemy with them as possible. This fact is a staple of pride of the legion, something they hold their troopers to by threat of execution for traitors, and something they vigorously advertise to potential buyers.

Centuries of Experience: Although they were founded on the training of the clones, centuries have gone by and the Legion has adapted their technique countless times even if they stick to the similar approach of impenetrable defense. Such a long history with so many records of successful military strategy means that they are prepared for countless situations.

Weaknesses:

Ground Forces: The 202nd has always been focused on planet based warfare, they have very few combat-ready starships and are extremely inexperienced in using them.

Fairly Predictable: They use tactics going back to the Clone Wars, much of their playbook is known to the galactic community at large meaning it's difficult for them to surprise their enemies.

Training Time: Training must start at childhood and carries on well into the mercs early adult years. This means that it is difficult for the 202nd to replace lost soldiers.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

The 202nd Legion was founded in the clone wars and was mostly housed on Anaxes when they weren't deployed, which was rare. When deployed they were tasked with the fortification of key objectives, and soon became renowned for their success rate on fending off the Confederacy. When order 66 was given, the 202nd wasted no time in hunting down their previous Jedi commanders, and soon became one of the top legions in hunting down and exterminating jedi and rebel remnants across the galaxy, usually occupying whole worlds and putting them under strict surveillance. With the fall of the Empire however, their numbers dwindled drastically as conscripts left as no one was around to pay them.

Yet some stayed, the Legion was all they had ever really known. Missing any sort of higher command, there was a power vacuum one quickly filled by Commander Rost. Rost was a veteran stormtrooper who had joined the Trooper Corp. as soon as he could and was renowned for his ruthless tactics (that would soon define the 202nd) and his loyalty to the Empire. The 202nd would float between different remnant factions and warlords, at first looking for a cause to believe in, but later realizing that none could bring back the Empire and simply seeking employers. As they traveled between these remnant groups, their reputation would often mean that when they left, they would leave with more troopers than they had arrived with, slowly building their numbers. Countless battles with the New Republic while being employed for Imperial remnants branded them as traitors and war criminals, and Rost's long career would come to an abrupt end by a New Republic bounty hunter who had infiltrated their ranks.

The 202nd would quickly split into smaller factions, each following a different commander who desired Rost's now empty position. Yet it was the tactical genius of Commander Mallast that would once again unify them. Under Mallast, the 202nd would actually assist the New Republic and Resistence against the First Order in order to be pardoned from their crimes. Stormtrooper against Stormtrooper combat was brutal, both sides fanatical in their beliefs and both sides willing to die for them. It was here that Mallast would commission the signature armor for the 202nd to give them both a distinctive look against their foe and also try to provide a small tactical advantage. Yet fighting that war against such a brutal foe led to the near extinction of the 202nd, the only thing that saved them being the large sum of money they would earn as the First Order was finally defeated and the right to operate within the New Republic's space. It would be here that they would found their headquarters on their Legion's ancestral home of Anaxes, the great fort known as "The Bulwark" would be an impenetrable fortress constantly being equipped with cutting edge technology. A deal was made with the local government that the 202nd would stand in defense of Anaxes at all costs as long as their presence on the planet would not be questioned or hindered in any way and they would be free to recruit from the lower levels of the local ecumenopolis worlds within The Core.

The 202nd would go on to build their numbers, although never to the size they once possessed. When the Yuuzhan Vong invaded, it was the 202nd that help defend the core worlds countless times from their assault. It was during one of these assaults that the third and greatest hero of the 202nd was born. Alongside Commander Rost, and Commander Mallast, Trooper Rhin stands as a paragon of the 202nd way of life. Rhin was known to spend weeks behind enemy lines with his troops, disrupting supply lines, assassinating key targets, all relatively independent from high command. He and his small brigade of troops were undefeated and grasped victory from the claws of defeat dozens if not hundreds of times. Rhin would die at the end of the war, never being able to receive the honors that he was owed in life due to his constant service and reluctance to even take an afternoon away from the front lines. The story of Rhin has become an almost mythological tale within the 202nd. Some say he was Chiss, Zabrak, Human, Twi'lek, and anything in between. Some say he was seven feet tall, others say he was nine, some say he wrestled a dozen Yuuzhan Vong at once, and even today more stories are made about Rhin the Unbent.

Ssalei Thank you very much for the edits :) Let's take a deeper look into this submission. Overall you've written a very interesting take on these stormtroopers, I just need to ask you for a few small edits before we can get this approved:
  • In General Information-
    • Under Affiliation, please write themselves. If possible, link to a minor faction, another submission, or their leader.
    • Under Equipment, you've mentioned various equipment, but have linked to none. If you mean that these pieces of equipment are of the generic variety, please specify so. Otherwise, I'm going to have to ask for links (links to the Wookiepedia are perfectly acceptable).
  • In Combat Information, you've accidentally left part of the template instructions in.
  • In History, you make mention of someone named Rhin. Is this a character that you write? Another NPC? Is there a link to a character sheet or NPC submission for this person?
