Musically speaking, 2012 was a magical year for me. It was the year I jumped down the rabbit hole that was electronic music, sparking my passion for and obessession with music as a whole, something I am certain some of you have experienced yourselves with whatever genres that managed to grab you. I look back fondly on the many hours scouring Youtube, finding as many tracks by artists such as Avicii, deadmau5, and Skrillex as I could. Where Avicii, Hardwell, and many other electronic music artists that had a mainstream following in the Netherlands at the time, opened my ears to how good the genre was, other names such as Seven Lions, Pegboard Nerds, and Savant truly pulled me in. but there is always One name that starts everything.
For me, that was Swedish House Mafia.
The year was 2010. I was in my first year of high school, and an old friend who I had met in elementary school told me to check this song called 'One' out. Back in those days I had a really old Nokia phone that I put music on by using a Youtube converter, then sending the file over from my laptop by using a Bluetooth USB. My friend did it the same way, and sent over the song from his phone to mine, and from that day on I was hooked.
One was the song that planted the seeds, and another song by SHM played a huge role in letting them sprout two years later. To this day it is one of my favorite songs, and its name is Greyhound.

I don't think I can properly explain how much I love this track. From the driving beat to how ridiculously well the sounds are layered, I truly think this is the best house track to have ever been produced. With the genre as a whole having died down significantly over the past number of years, it is unlikely anything will ever top it. But, of course, it is never truly impossible.
Later that same year of 2012 the group split, putting a bow on the project with a final tour and album. Although two of the three members would eventually reunite to form Axwell /\ Ingrosso, the music they put out today is a far cry from the kind I fell in love with. Swedish House Mafia will always have a special place in my heart, and that's why I took the opportunity to relive the memories with this blog post. That's what Throwback Thursday is for, right?
