I have to be honest, most of RL Grime's stuff doesn't speak to me at all. Waiting is avarage at best in my opinion, Tell Me is exact style of trap that just does nothing for me and the lead synth of Core just annoys the hell out of me. Because of all that, when Reims came out a few days ago, my expectations were low. My expectations were completely unjustified.
Reims is fantastic. Utterly fantastic. The intro weaves into the drop perfectly, the synths are crisp and really satisfying to listen to, and despite the fact it's nothing new it nails what it's trying to do. The only thing that I'm not a huge fan of are the vocal samples right before the drop, which repeats itself twice in the drop itself, but it doesn't really get in the way at all and the absolutely fantastic synths and melody lines make it so that slight thing can't even put a damper on my enjoyment. I never thought I'd say it, but I'm excited for RL's next album.
