SPECIAL FEATURES
STRENGTHS
  • Plant Surge: Plant life within a four meter radius of a single emerald specimen will grow at a substantially faster rate than normal, though not so quickly that it can be seen growing before your very eyes. Depending on the type of plant, it may take weeks or even a month for the plant to reach maturity, but the time it would have taken without the emerald's influence would be halved.
WEAKNESSES
  • Growing Like a Weed: The effect of the emerald is constant; it never stops. Any and all seeds or bulbs within its radius will be affected. Moreover, it does not offer any special protections to the plants it influences, which still require care and maintenance. Without upkeep, the plants will grow out of control, or they may die or become diseased. Only a skilled Force User can control the emerald's influence.
  • 8 Mohs: Emerald is not an especially hard gemstone. It often has other materials trapped inside its makeup, resulting in lowered durability. Hitting it with sufficient force or conventional weapons will result in its destruction.
  • Force Voids: If it comes into contact with anything that voids the Force, it will be reduced to little more than a common emerald.
  • Cannot be used as a lightsaber crystal due to its impracticality.
DESCRIPTION
The people of the Ba'tae region have long known of zom'rud, or the witch's emerald. Due to its Force-imbued properties, the gemstone features frequently in local folklore, where its origins are tied to that of the land itself. The most popular and widely known story involves a farmer who, after several bad harvests, sought the help of a witch. She created the first emerald, which had the power to make his crops grow and be ready for harvest in mere days. However, one emerald could only affect a small area of land. As payment for each emerald, she required him to sacrifice a soul to Ba'al, an evil god from whom the witch derived her power. The farmer agreed and began luring victims to the witch to be sacrificed.

As the farmer grew rich and was able to buy more land, he sacrificed more and more lives so that he could expand his farming operations. Eventually the farmer died fabulously wealthy but utterly alone. The emeralds caused his plants to keep growing endlessly, and with no one to care for or harvest them they became susceptible to blight. Over time his farmland became the marshes of Ba'tae. This story would be used to warn children not to venture too far out into the swamps, as the witch was said to kill those who ventured into her territory and use them to create more emeralds.

During the Gulag Era, a scientist named Nenuphar "discovered" the mysterious green gem. She performed extensive studies and tests with the emeralds in her laboratory. Her experiments would eventually lead to the development of the substance nenuphar, widely considered to be one of the most significant technologies in Shi'ido history. Witch's emerald plays a crucial role in the making of nenuphar.

The gem's actual origins remain obscure, as they are atomically identical to common emerald. They are found only in the Ba'tae region, but it is unknown what aspects or qualities of the area grant the witch's emerald its unusual properties. Much of the debate among experts centers on whether the gem is of natural or artificial origin, with some proffering the theory that the legend of the witch may have some truth in it, and the emeralds were deliberately altered by a powerful Force User. With no definitive evidence to prove or disprove this theory, others remain skeptical as to its accuracy.

It is going to need to be one or the other, if it is able to go into a saber it falls under the saber rules for the factory which has a production cap. If it doesn't work in a saber it can keep its current production but should be made clear it won't work in one.
