SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Attanni Mind Probe - Through a needled cable that can extend out to two meters, a user can inject a Mind Probe with Attanni technology at the base of other creatures skulls or wherever their central nervous system or brain-equivalent is typically located in order to gather either a portion of or the entire scope of its memories and emotions throughout its lifetime. For living things that are relatively young, the process may take as little as 20 minutes, whereas more long-lived individuals may take as long as six hours or more.
  • Virtual Lifeform Generator - Utilizing ancient and poorly understood technology, the Othermind Node uses information gained via Mind Probe and Attanni technology to fully recreate the mindscape of a living thing into a Virtual Lifeform stored within the Node.
  • Synaptic Mental Projection - Combining technologies between the Synaptic Teacher and Mental Projection techniques, the Othermind Node is capable of placing the subconscious of the user within the memory-scape of the recreated Virtual Lifeform, and experience its life as if the user had always been this "Other Mind". By reliving through these memories, the Virtual Lifeform Avatar receives all the damage that would otherwise be dangerous by using the Mental Projection technique, but the memory of pain will be palpable and real to the user once the simulation runs its course, as if they themselves had experienced it. The process of subconscious living usually happens more or less five times faster than whatever the upload process took, so a 20 minute upload time would translate to a 4-minute experience, whereas something that has taken 10 hours to upload may take 2 hours to process.
STRENGTHS
  • A day in another's shoes, a life in another's mind - Utilizing a variety of different technologies, the Zerek Othermind Node is capable of simulating the entire life of another individual from beginning to present moment (or at least whatever moments have been collected for simulation) within the mind of the Node user... as if they themselves were experiencing the life for the first time without prior life experience biases.
  • Subconscious Processing - Unlike a normal Synoptic Teacher, which was often used while an individual was unconscious, the Othermind Node uses an individuals subconscious regardless of wake status, as it tricks the technology into processing the information of the Virtual Lifeform first before uploading the experience into the user's memory storage (organic or otherwise).
WEAKNESSES
  • Invasive - There is no neat and nice way to take someone's entire life out of their skull, it involves needles, temporary cybernetic implantation, and maybe a tiny amount of torture. Finding willing individuals to hook up to this Node may be difficult, but the results will be worth it!
  • Unethical? - It's hard to say really, but creating Virtual Lifeforms for the sole purpose of living someone else's life without giving them the chance to live out their virtual existence on their own may seem cruel to some people. Most people, however, will realize it is a small price to pay for an impartial and unbiased outlook on another person's life and circumstance.
DESCRIPTION

The Zerek Othermind Node comes from the research section under Lance of Dreams, an Iskalloni that has renounced the practices of his species and completely adopted a multicultural influence in his life and in his work. Though he was never completely aligned with the more violent practices of his people, the alien still struggled with his comprehension of how other aliens thought and processed information. It took a long time, and many different technologies, but eventually he created a prototype of the Othermind Node. It involved many of the same technologies but lacked the level of safety and refinement the current model possesses. Nonetheless, when Lance of Dreams used it, for the first time he was able to literally see events through someone else's unique perspective.

It expanded his mind beyond his species cultural background and allowed him to better consider his own life through comparison. However, Lance of Dreams considered the prototype to be incomplete, as the experience, as refreshing and culturally enriching as it was, was plagued by his own life's pre-existing biases. To better understand, he needed to find some means to perfectly emulate another's life without his own experience ever entering the equation. He needed a total recreation of life in a Virtual Landscape where only their memories could be experienced, blocking out his active conscious thoughts entirely.

Lance of Dreams abandoned his own research facility, and eventually located an iBorg associate, which allowed him to show and demonstrate his prototype to the cybernetics company. His flagship product earned him his place as a researcher for iBorg, and for the past few years, he has come to complete his dream to live as other people impartially, to learn from their experiences completely. As a result, it has made him a better researcher, and a better engineer. Ever since then, he has made a reputation for himself within the company as a valuable commodity.
