Zara was born into privilege on Bastion, but not luxury. Her mother was a minor logistics officer in the early Diarchic navy - efficient, plain, and revered by Zara about as much as one reveres a spreadsheet. Her father? Allegedly a Brotherhood member, though Zara's only inheritance from him was an unusually high midichlorian count and the nagging suspicion that she was always being watched.

Identified early for her rare aptitude in pyrokinesis, she was enrolled in the Crucible of Order by the age of six. There, she rapidly rose through the ranks, not because she was the strongest, but because she was the one most willing to look like the strongest. Zara understood early that power wasn't enough.
