STRENGTHS
  • Penetration Power: The highly energised and quickly oscillating photons produced by this technology each possess momentum that ranges from approximately 1.24 KiloElectronvolt per particle at the lower ends as seen in man-portable applications of the technology all the way upto 1.24 MegaElectonVolt per particle easily sufficient to potentially penetrate thick concentrations of the densest materials known within the galaxy such as lead, osmium, platinum and neuranium. An infantry soldier carrying a hydrogen particle accelerator rifle can potentially demolish lightly armored vehicles with their weapon. Furthermore, what's worse for a victim of a weapon operated by the technology the energy transferred by those excited photons is sufficient to cause conflagration and ignite materials susceptible to ignition. Creating situations where the laser can potentially pass through melting armor and ignite the wearer, burning them alive.
  • Negligible Feedback: Because the particle accelerator technology doesn't involve the detonation of any kind of chemical or gas discharge, the passage of those highly energized pico-wavelength hydrogen particles goes with negligible barely perceptible sound to the Human ear, it has been likened to the sound of a mosquito buzzing past which is in truth the audible feedback created by the accelerated hydrogen particles generating friction and cherenkov radiation interacting with a standard atmosphere. Additionally Zahr-based particle accelerators generate little "Muzzle flash" making the precise location of a weapon sometimes visually difficult to discern.

WEAKNESSES
  • Acute radiation poisoning: Infantry or personnel operating man-portable examples of Zahr particle accelerator technology should be armored in radiation-shielded protective equipment as the weapon's hydrogen particles generate significant amounts of Cherenkov radiation as they move through any medium, sufficient amounts of radiation are generated and makes sustained operation hazardous without protection. Unprotected users using man-portable weapons equipped with the technology can experience acute radiation syndrome symptoms approximately one-hour after operation and could last for a few hours.
  • Battery/Range conundrum: Accelerating a mass of hydrogen particles at high oscillating frequency to relativistic speeds requires a significant amount of power especially to maintain focal strength over range, thus it is often the case with man-portable examples of this technology in weapons that they suffer from limited range without a large battery, so the likes of pistols and rifles more often than not rarely have an effective range beyond 450 meters and precision weapons not more than 1,500 meters limiting their utility and permitting a force armed with traditional energy weapons featuring a greater maximum effective range a distinct advantage in undulating terrain with long sight lines, for this reason a prudent infantry commander would not exclusively arm their soldiers with particle accelerators.
  • Submerged Operations: The range issues associated with weapons operating with particle accelerator technology is exacerbated by liquid solutions which have more tightly packed molecules in its' medium than say air or the vacuum of space, thus underwater the particles lose more of their energy more quickly as they travel through the medium and a weapon with a maximum range of 450 meters for example might see it reduced to a measly 50 meters.
  • Thermal Build-up: Weapons that are based off of this first iteration of particle accelerator technology should build-up a staggering amount of thermal energy in their operation, on a large scale such as in Warship weapons this might necessitate pumping liquid nitrogen through a sleeve around the barrel of a large cannon to keep its' arranged electromagnets cool and prevent damage under sustained firing, if the hydraulic or electric pumps cycling the nitrogen failed this could result in dramatically reduced firing rate. On a small scale such as used in Infantry weapons, it could typically mean such designed weapons feature dramatically reduced ammunition capacity as any battery powering such a weapon would find itself rapidly drained additionally the thermal energy generated would necessitate the implementation of heat-sinks and reduced rate of fire to the point where standard rifles and pistols couldn't have automatic capability.
  • Over-penetration: A potential downside to the weapons when used in close-combat is that the laser photon beam is liable to over-penetrate even when faced with the densest of materials and armor, thus in a close-quarters environment such as within the halls of a building or warship there is an elevated risk of accident and unintentional injury and friendly fire amongst the forces wielding such weapons on an infantry/soldier-scale, making a photon projector more ideal for use in undulating terrain or in the void of space.
  • Visible Stream: Even though it accelerates particles to relativistic speeds and operates at a frequency generally invisible to the Human eye due to some physics phenomenon when the particles pass through any medium they generate significant Cherenkov radiation in their wake which appears as a blue streak that follows the particle's trajectory and lingers for approximately a standard second after discharge indicating the presence of significant ionizing radiation and the passage of charge particles.
DESCRIPTION
Zahr particle accelerator technology was researched and developed by the League of Sanctified Steel between 610 and 645 ABY, the team from the Order of Artisans responsible for this research and development was a Sephi physicist named "Zahr" for whom the technology receives its' name. Unlike most particle acclerators which are large, bulky and used generally in mining, research or manufacture applications Zahr particle accelerator technology was developed for the express purpose of military application for use in weapons that would defeat conventional deflector shield designs including esoteric or obscure types developed shortly before and after the historical Battle of Yavin during the Galactic Civil War.

Those design goals were largely successful and Zahr's team developed technology that could be produced just short of a mass-production scale, the weapons which rely on Zahr's method of operation and research could be considered a hybrid kinetic-energy weapon which makes it quite esoteric when contrasted to the traditional sandbox of galactic weapons. When Zahr particle accelerators are discharged the hydrogen particles are accelerated to near the speed of light and transfers their immense kinetic energy to the atoms in the molecules of the target area whether this be a deflector shield or organic flesh, shaking apart the bonds holding the impact site together in an effect not dissimilar to a disruptor. Upon impact, the area is rapidly superheated due to friction cauterizing any injury simultaneously, the energy imparted can be sufficient to kill a human or near-human instantly if struck anywhere on the head as the transferred energy is sufficient to cause massive cerebral hemorrhaging and fracture all cervical vertebrae.

Amongst the technology's advantages when applied to weaponry is secondary injuries from near-hits can include the infliction of second or third degree beta radiation burns to exposed organic material, secondly the discharge of Zahr particle accelerators is relatively quiet making negligible noise when contrasted to traditional blasters or firearms it also features no muzzle flash. That does not necessarily mean there is little to no way to identify the source of a discharge however as the passing Hydrogen particles generate significant Cherenkov radiation and thus the hydrogen particles create a blue stream that lingers in the medium for approximately one-second before completely dissipating and this can be used to identify the discharge source. It is also contact or close-proximity to the Cherenkov radiation that can cause second to third-degree radiation burns along with symptoms of Acute radiation syndrome.
