Yuna was born on Atrisia to a minor noble family. She lived pretty comfortably but always faced scrutiny for her family background, the Kai family was not pure aristocracy, many of her relatives were married into commoner families with her parents being one of the few exceptions.
Yuna was told by her parents that she was the most distinguished Kai in the family, but because of her family's status, she was seen as an outcast by Atrisian high society which isolated her from social interaction with her peers.
Yuna held growing resentment towards everyone followed by depression from neglect by her parents who were more concerned for their social status than their own daughter. So she ran away to join a pirate gang where she honed her skills in hand-to-hand combat, knife skills, and blaster training.
At some point, Yuna and her gang found themselves on the edge of NIO space by Iridonia. Yuna became apprehensive about performing piracy in NIO space due to their ruthlessness in rooting out pirates. But against her protest, the gang went ahead with harassing shipping lanes until they were intercepted by the Imperial navy thanks to a tip by Yuna.
Afterward, Yuna enlisted in the Stormtrooper Corps as a top-performing cadet where she was recommended to officer and special forces training to hone her leadership skills. Yuna was made a lieutenant before being recommended to join COMPNOR and was given charge of an Atrisian volunteer special forces unit.
