-History as a Jedi: Ylva lived as a Jedi for decades within the Republic's Jedi Order. The focus of her knowledge was in Galactic history and education (multicultural arts, literature, etc). The focus of her training as a Jedi was in using the Force to seek wisdom for oneself without crossing the line of emotion and inward thinking. This training comprised of defensive fighting and Force techniques.
Weaknesses
-Elder: Ylva relies more heavily on the Force than most others in combat due to her age. Actively avoids open conflict as a result and attempts to seek peaceful/non-violent or at least non-lethal solutions.
-Space Sickness: Ylva is not a fan of space travel and does not pilot for herself. Ever. Don't even ask. As a result, her skills in a cockpit are rather limited, despite her eidetic memory and lengthy lifespan.
-Physical Markings: Distinctive epicanthic fold makes for on-sight determination of species possible.
Species Characteristics
-Bilingual: Speaks Epicant and Basic fluently.
-Genetic Immunity: Immune to Force-assisted mental tricks, influence, dominance, and mind-reading.
Appearance
Ylva is of medium build with pale, aging skin, and bird's feet at the corners of her eyes. She is garbed in any style of clothing from sweeping Jedi robes to more utilitarian designs, though her preferred manner of dress includes the raiments patterned after the Ansata, expressing her devotion to the pursuit of knowledge.
Biography
Early Life
Born on Panatha, Ylva's Force Sensitivity was detected at birth and as such she was turned over to the Jedi Order and raised without ever knowing her biological family. Ylva's perfect memory developed around the time her long term memory solidified, and she remembers most conscious moments of her life. As long as Ylva commits something to memory (be it a thought, feeling, experience, image, period of time etc) with conscious effort, it will be remembered forever.
The Jedi Order
By age fourteen, Ylva's strengths in the pursuit of knowledge were apparent to her Masters and she was apprenticed to one of the Master Librarians of the Order on Coruscant, Jerod Ekverth, long before the planet was lost to the One Sith. Ylva followed the path of a Jedi Consular and in her twenty-first year, herself and Master Ekverth sought from the Reassignment Council a post on Alderaan, so that she could begin her academic studies. On Alderaan, Ylva attained Doctorates in both Nursing and Education, before transferring to Corulag for a Masters in Economics ten years later.
Education
Upon completion of an already exhaustive education, Ylva returned with her Master to Coruscant as a Jedi Knight five years after leaving Alderaan. It was at this time that Master Ekverth passed away from swift onset congenital heart failure, his body deteriorating too quickly to be able to withstand a cloned or manufactured replacement organ. The loss of her mentor of nearly twenty years struck Ylva particularly hard, and she immediately sought reassignment from the Council. She was given leave to began a PhD program in Applied Sciences at Mrisst's Trade and Science Academy that would end at Corellia's esteemed School of Starship Engineering.
Despair
Ylva's excellent memory kept the years of life with her Master alive as she continued boring through this portion of her education, giving her life to little more than her studies. This unfortunately prevented Ylva from adequately moving on and completing the grieving process, and her Master's passing clung desperately to her psyche for nearly a decade.
As a Jedi Knight of the Order, Ylva never married, though she dated women and men of several different species during her time in various academic institutions after Master Ekverth passed away. The practice never lasted long and only served as an attempt to stave off her loneliness. The dogmatic morality of the Jedi lost its grip on Ylva following her education at Corellia and it wasn't until several years after, at the age of forty-three, that Ylva took on a Padawan of her own...
Teacher and Student
As Ylva began to fill the role of Master to a young Quarren apprentice, Gespar T'lacta, she grew beyond her state of perpetual despair. She learned to adopt the mantle of her deceased Master instead of remain focused on his absence in her life. Ylva eventually reconciled herself with his death, and for a time this bolstered her faith in the Jedi Code of morality and passed this reborn attitude onto her apprentice, who grew beyond her wildest hopes. Gespar proved himself a wondrous student, matching the ideology she impressed upon him with a fierce inquisitiveness that challenged Ylva at every discussion.
Gespar pursued a similar degree set to Ylva over the next fifteen years, completing a Masters in Engineering at Rigovian Technical Institute (where Ylva taught during his time there) as well as a PhD in Nursing and a Masters in Education (both at the University of Aldera, where Ylva was alumni and was later tenured). Gespar became a valuable Jedi Knight, spurring Ylva's promotion to Master in time with her acceptance of a permanent position on Alderaan.
Masterhood
It was at the age of fifty-eight that Ylva recommended Gespar adopt a Padawan learner of his own, and the younger man did so, Effy Furdin, of Corellia. From that point on, Ylva maintained contact with her former student as diligently as possible, often asking after his perspective on a particular piece of work as an academic equal. Roughly ten years later, at the age of sixty-seven, Ylva was offered a position within the Jedi Order as a Master Librarian, which she declined multiple times for five years. Finally, now seventy-two years old, Ylva accepted the open offer and forfeited her tenure on Alderaan, moving to Ossus to live at the Temple there. It was during this time as a Master Librarian that Ylva returned to the role of Student as she completed a PhD in Physics from CorU before continuing philosophical studies she had begun decades earlier on Coruscant. Her research led her from the realm of Jedi-centric philosophy to a broader scope of knowledge that included the Fallanassi, the Je'daii of Tython, the Revanchists, and eventually many of the more extreme Sith philosophies such as the Mad Sorcerers of Tund and the followers of Naga Sadow.
Cognitive Dissonance [844 ABY]
Eight years later, Ylva's studies brought her deftly into the realm of the Sith, and through the practice of argumentative philosophy, Ylva began losing her grip on her faith in the Jedi Code. She struggled with the internal conflict for several years, refusing to take on new Padawans until she resolved the cognitive dissonance within herself. Hoping the Holocrons of the Jedi might provide Ylva with the wisdom she needed, she utilized her access to the Archives on Coruscant to peruse the pooled knowledge of myriad deceased Jedi.
Finding no answers, Ylva allowed herself to be tempted by the Jedi's possession of captured Sith Holocrons and sought resolution within the wisdom of the long-deceased Sith. Many of the teachings were extreme though the philosophies and personal views of individuals within the ranks of the Sith resonated deeply with Ylva's love of education and the pursuit of knowledge.
Unfortunately, Ylva never reached a resolution that allowed her to remain amongst the Jedi and six years later, at the age of eighty-six, Ylva reported to the Jedi Council that she would be retiring from her position as Master Librarian of the Jedi Order, citing personal health issues. Her resignation went unchallenged and Ylva was permitted to retire amongst the Jedi.
Ylva continued her research in diligence even after her retirement, seeking the knowledge of long dead Sith all around the Galaxy. She began constructing a philosophy of her own that strayed dramatically from the lines toed by either side, and her hope was that it's application could be used for the betterment of Galactic society. What Ylva wanted, what she needed, were other minds to flesh out her ideas, and this she sought away from the Jedi Order.
But where to start?
