Intent: To create a way to make Amphistaffs, and other Yuuzhan Vong tools/armor viable again without immediately being cut through, however without it being used to field massive armies of Yuuzhan Vong. And to provide a balance to it so Vong armor is no longer as resistant to lightsabers as it once was making it capable of moderate resistance to lightsabers.
Development Thread: If Needed

General Info:
Manufacturer: Yuuzhan Vong
Model: N/A
Affiliation: Yuuzhan Vong/Allies (exclusively)
Modularity: No
Production: Limited
Materials: Powerglands, Genetic Splicer
Classification: Vong Biot
Weight: .2-4kg

Strengths:
  • Return to old: Once again Yuuzhan Vong weapons are immune to the effects of lightsabers making amphistaffs and other such weapons viable in combat once again. (Weapons only)
  • Durability: While the armor of the Yuuzhan Vong is nothing compared to what it used to be it is now capable of deflecting a few strikes from a lightsaber but repeated strikes or sustained contact will slice through.

Weaknesses:
  • Not the same: While the weapons may work the same as they once did the Yuuzhan Vong armor does not retain the same immunity to lightsabers as it once did to where constant contact or too many blows suffered from one can eventually slice through the armor.
  • Vongsense: Much like other creations by the Vong, these biots are capable of being manipulated through a skilled use of Vongsense which could lead to the power gland being completely deactivated leaving the armor useless against lightsabers once again.
  • Baffor Pollen: As with all forms of Vong tech this biot is allergic to Baffor Pollen and if used can cause the biot to affect the power gland making it completely constrict the user or cause the Yuuzhan vong tools/weaponry its bonded to, to die.
  • Permanent: Once bonded to the power gland it is impossible to remove the biot which means that you take all the weaknesses of the tool/weapon/armor and it cannot return to its original form. (In short, if using it to combat one with a disruptor lens your armor can now eventually be cut through by those with or without the lens.)
  • Weight: These biots are far from light, and the weight ranges in size due to the size of the creatures power gland.

Description: There was a time long ago when the Yuuzhan Vong unleashed their wraith on the galaxy, at one time they seemed unstoppable, their armors and weapons capable of withstanding the strikes of the Jedi’s famed weapons. This was probably what made their biotech the stuff of legends and caused others to crave it. They wished to use this armor and weaponry for their own purposes. This they accomplished. In years past perhaps one of the most infamous Galactic Powers, The One Sith were known for fielding massive amounts of Yuuzhan Vong. They utilized Yuuzhan Vong tech in mass, they no longer cared for the sanctity of what the Vong people had created as long as they had a force capable of crushing their enemies. Perhaps it was the Vong who had brought the Sith far more of their victories than they realized? Had they forgotten just how valuable their allies, or what were supposed to be their allies were?

No matter, the wars and battles continued with numerous Vong entering the field, eventually the galaxy came to learn of how the Yuuzhan Vongs biotech was able to operate, perhaps one had leaked the secrets? However, it had happened there eventually was a creation that allowed the lightsabers to cleave through Amphistaffs and the famed Voduun Skerr Kyricc. This was of course shocking, dismaying and brought rage to the Vong people. What had once been a proud group of warriors capable of fighting jedi had now been deprived of their weaponry, and armor while it seemed like their enemies came into battle with armor capable of withstanding any other damage that they tried to deal out. This setback wouldn’t keep the Yuuzhan people down however as they began the long process of trying to once again make their tools viable.

The process all started and ended with the power gland, it was easily the most important part of the Yuuzhan Vongs biotech. While a majority of them still despised the mechanical creations of man it was a required process of them to begin examining lightsabers that were cutting through their tech as though it were a sheet of flimsy. For the most part they sat in confusion, it took months of toiling over the lightsabers they had collected and reverse engineering for them to discover that it was the Lens of the weapon that was the culprit. Having examined the lens the Vong went about the process of shaping a new biot that could operate in much the same way as the power glands did, except that things weren’t that simple. They simply couldn’t replace the power glands in the Vong Weaponry and tools, instead this biot would be grafted onto the power gland causing it to change frequencies so as to once again grant protection from lightsabers. The largest problem was that any grafted with this biot now had to worry about those with vongsense tampering with it possibly even deactivating the power gland completely. Another downside was that the protection they once offered against lightsabers was nowhere near as much as it once was. While not the success that they wished for it was something. The weapons of the Vong such as the Amphistaffs, Eels, Thud bugs, ect… Took well to it returning back to what had once made them great. The Voduun Skerr Kyrric on the other hand... Well that was where it fell short, what had once been capable of blocking lightsabers completely now could be sliced through eventually with repeated strikes or sustained contact. This is a permanent process once bound to one’s tools and armor it cannot be removed.

The level of lightsaber resistance doesn't seem consistent here. The intent states it is no longer as resistant to lightsabers, then the strengths call it immune to lightsaber effects, and so on.

Please clarify how vulnerable the biot is to lightsaber attacks and ensure this is consistent throughout the sub.

[member="Aria Vale"] Oh the immune part was more so meant in reference to the weapons such as the Amphistaffs as those are meant to be used in combat against a lightsaber. The Armor was the second strength where it comes more so in line with Ultrachrome so much in that it can take lightsaber attacks but multiple ones or even sustained contact will breach the armor.

Two questions:
  1. Why not just use canon Vong Technology? It is not banned or restricted, and is more powerful with less drawbacks.
  2. Labeling this tech as on par with another restricted material is going to be problematic as we will have to go through the submission and make all of the edits to bring it in line with a restricted material. It would be easier to just say it provides moderate resistance to lightsabers.
Let me know what you would prefer to do. Honestly in my opinion it would be simpler to just use canon Vong tech, but the decision is ultimately yours.

[member="Jamie Pyne"] The reason is to tone down the strengths of Yuuzhan Vong armor make it to where they're more likely to take damage and be injured as honestly having armor that no one can damage or is a problem for a majority of people to damage isn't fun at all. However, on the opposite end of the spectrum, there's an item that makes lightsabers slice through with no problem at all. So it's a balancing act too. Making the armor susceptible to all lightsabers but not letting them be instantly cut through by those with that item.

Which I removed all mentions of ultrachrome from the submission and changed the descriptions slightly.
