Intent: To create a starfighter size weapon designed to use the new X-CL series ammunition type.
Development Thread: N/A
Manufacturer: Tenloss
Model: X-RMB
Affiliation: Tenloss
Modularity: Minor modularity is available to fit it in appropriate housings or on appropriate vehicles. Otherwise, the only modularity is the use of X-CL series ammunition variants.
Production: Mass
Material: Alusteel, Durasteel, and other weapon construction components.
Classification: Technically Blaster (X-CL series only)
Size: Vehicle or emplacement mounted
Length: 1.8m
Weight: 41kg unloaded
Ammunition Type: X-CL series ammunition
Ammunition Capacity:
  • 60 round drums
  • 120 round belts
Effective Range: 1km
Rate of Fire: Fully automatic - 740rpm
Special Features:
Strengths:
  • Durable - The design is redundant and reliable, made of sturdy construction materials
  • Accurate - Caliberated and machined following precise measurements and plans, the weapon exhibits above average accuracy in most conditions.
  • Fully automatic - Harnessing the power of blaster recoil from discharged X-CL series ammunition, the weapon is self loading and features a fast rate of fire for such a weapon.
Weaknesses:
  • Limited ammunition - While a blaster weapon, weapons utilizing X-CL series ammunition suffer the same drawbacks as their chemical projectile weapon cousins.
  • Capable of jamming - Whether belt or magazine fed, the X-RMB tends to jam if loaded improperly or fired over prolonged periods of time.
  • Thermal overload - Due to the nature of the weapon, the X-RMB's barrel sustains a great deal of heat transfer when the weapon is firing, leading to melted barrels and weapon failure if fired in long, sustained bursts.
Description:

In the quest for new weapons and technology, Tenloss has created the first weapon to utilize the new X-CL series ammunition: the X-RMB.

Designed as a heavy weapon system for use on vehicles or starfighters, the X-RMB has earned itself a reputation for hitting hard, hitting often, and generally destroying what it hits. The weapon uses the X-CL series ammunition which has given it a flexibility unknown to any known blaster or energy weapons currently in existence. The ammunition type has also given the weapon a distinctive nickname given by test personnel. Based on the RMB weapon designation, the weapon has been dubbed the 'Rumbler' by test crews. Whether due to the rumbling noise it generates when heard from afar or the amount of vibration felt when the X-RMB fires by the operator is unknown, but what is known is that the X-RMB has become a fast favorite within the Tenloss community.

The weapon is equivalent to a specific chemical projectile weapon called an autocannon, utilizing larger cartridges of X-CL ammunition which allows it to pack a nasty punch at most ranges. Featuring a rate of fire of approximately 740 rounds, or cartridges, per minute, the X-RMB is capable of putting a great deal of hurt downrange at a visible target up to about a kilometer away. The weapon is versatile thanks to the X-CL series ammunition it utilizes, often loaded into magazine drums or fed by linked belts into the receiver. In fact, the ammunition is sold prepackaged in the following variations, following a patterns of four cartridges in a repeating sequence*:

Standard - B, A, A, A
Assault - B, A, C, A
A2A - B, A, C, B
A2A Version 2 - B, C, A, C

Though hard hitting and flexible, the weapon does have its drawbacks. Similar to standard chemical projectile weapons, the weapon has limited ammunition, relying solely on what can be carried in loaded magazines or belts. For most areas, this is alleviated by crews being able to reload the weapon, though for starfighters this is a severe hindrance as reloading while in the air or in space is impossible in most cases.

The X-RMB also has a tendency to jam, typical of automatic weapons fed by actual cartridges (similar to slugthrower weaponry). In addition, the nature of blaster weapons means that the barrel has a tendency to overheat. Prolonged and steady bursts can overheat the barrel, causing it to melt and the weapon to fail, sometimes catastrophically. No failsafes have been installed at this time. Instead, crews and operators are trained to fire in controlled bursts to prevent failure of the weapon in combat.

*A, B, C designations are the current variants of the X-CL series ammunition denoting the specific types of ammunition in the belt or drum. For example, the Standard is B, A, A, A which means X-CL-B (ion), and three X-CL-A (Blaster)
