Private Worlds became Wastes

Tatooine was one of the few worlds Historically known for being forever changed by the Rakatan incursion. Few records existed to predate the Old Republic, save for what the Sith hoarded or elusive collectors of knowledge kept well hidden. What the King searched for was an errand that took him deep into Jedi Archives, through great libraries, and into tombs across the Outer Rim.

While she criticized his fascination with the past because it took up as much time as his work, Yula Perl Yula Perl understood why he felt so strongly about it. When a clue finally appeared, a hint about what they could do, what they had done, he had to see with his own eyes.

It wasn't quite enough for Yula to say "Tatooine is a dusty, sweltering desert." Enlil delved into records of the super advanced society it once was. If the Rakatan were able to reduce that to the dark ages...

They’d been traveling under the blistering heat of twin sun for the past two days.

Yula was less than enthused with Enlil Enlil 's insistence that they follow the trail to the sweltering deserts of Tatooine, but in the end she had relented. At the very least, she respected that this was something of a more sacred task. They didn’t speak of it often, but she didn’t heckle him over it.

“Should be close by.” Grumbling as she pushed another strand of greasy hair from her forehead, Yula tilted the datapad so that Enlil could see the map. “They said the site was dangerous.” There was no note of warning in her voice, for the pair of Judges had faced far worse than the perils of a recently discovered archaeological site.

Hopefully they’d get there before the salvagers swarmed and picked apart anything valuable.

Her brow furrowed as she handed him the datapad and reached to pin her hair back. “You sure you’re up for this?” One last chance to turn away from what may be yet another disappointment.

"A man gains wisdom only through action," the King replied quietly as they crested a dune. Yula seemed less than thrilled about the venue of their adventure, even if it promised to be less eventful than most of their work. "If I don't at least follow a lead, I won't ever know."

He spoke in riddles at times, he realized. It was a trait he'd learned from his father, to speak in idioms and fortune cookie papers. Sometimes it fit, and other times, people looked at him sideways. It didn't matter, because he didn't fit with this era to begin with.

He accepted the datapad and turned to face her.
"Thank you," he said, more quietly. "I am sorry to ask you to come along with me on these ventures. I know this one in particular you are not fond of. I am... glad for your company, though. I will make it up to you, somehow."

Yula shrugged, feeling no further need to question Enlil’s dedication. Before even asking, she had a feeling that it would take an immeasurable force to stop him. Like a magnet to a pole, Enlil needed answers.

The mood between them was more somber than she was used to, so Yula shifted her weight to one side and gave him a half-hearted grin. “Yeah, well. You need someone to watch your back and make sure you don’t get lost.” She tapped the datapad knowingly. Enlil could read a map just fine, but he had a harder time with navigating the electronics. The parchment or stone he was used to reading from were not longer commonplace.

Maybe on a few backwater worlds untouched by modern technology, but not in the galaxy at large.

“So, what are we keeping an eye out for?”
