Words Unspoken, Finally Spoken

Darben had called [member="Stardust Raxis"], seeing if she could come to Commenor to see if she could help give a checkup on Mute, who had been getting better. She had been signing that her throat was less sore, and had even been making progress with sounds. A couple of days before, she had made a few noises, but no words had been spoken yet. He also thought that maybe he could give the news to [member="Lady Kay"], he knew how much Mute loved when Kay visited. He too enjoyed her company, she had made a good friend to them when they were in need. Like when his store had taken that hit.

He was stacking things on shelves, with Mia helping in the back of the store when he heard steps coming down the stairs behind the counter and turned to see a rather sleepy looking Twi'Lek. "Morning, Mute. I'll get you something to eat soon...also, Kay and Stardust are visiting. Stardust is coming to check up on you, okay?" She sleepily nodded, then returned to upstairs. He heard a sound come from her, and suspected she was trying to speak. As he watched her go back up, he dropped one of the boxes that spilled it's contents across the floor, silvery and jewelry.

It had been a week after the surgery, Stardust had written everything down and was starting to compile it all so she could study it just a bit more, honestly it was amazing it worked, course it would take time though....like a sword you didn't learn to speak in a day

It was coming around time to have a check up on mute, she had been staying on commenor so she would be closer until she saw further improvement and started forming actual words least a few, she left he a little house she had bought and started for the location darben wanted her to meet, walking through the streets she arrived at his door and knocked threes times before standing back

[member="Darben Skirae"] had some news and asked her to go to his store. Kay wasn't sure of what that news was, yet she was eager to find out. Her pregnancy left her more or less in the Palace or at her hideaway, so this was a nice opportunity to go elsewhere. She arranged a landspeeder to bring her and a pair of her guards with her.

Twenty minutes later she was at the store, stepping out of the speeder just as [member="Stardust Raxis"] was let inside. Of course Kay couldn't run to catch the door. So she just sort of waddled in her own time with her guards in tow. They kept their eyes and ears open for threats. Kay had no doubts that this was important, otherwise he'd of just let her know the news in a message.

Finally she made it to the door and opened it, stepping inside, a tad out of breath. "I'm here. Sorry if I'm late."

Darben Skirae heard the knock, and stood up from the whole mess he had made to open the door, finding [member="Stardust Raxis"] to be there. "Stardust! Come in, please. Shes upstairs, I'll bring her down" he said as he held the door open. "Oh, and don't mind the-" He stopped when he spotted [member="Lady Kay"] approaching. "Kay, thank you for coming. I thought Mute might want you to come. Plus, I have a bit of news." He kept the door open, just in case the guards also wished to enter. Then he stepped over to the mess, starting to clean it up before someone tripped over it all.

"Mute! Come downstairs please!" he called, then turned back to Kay. "Thanks to Stardust, Mute may be able to talk soon. She's getting better now, and I think sometime soon she may speak her first words she's ever spoken." Needless to say, he was very excited, and when Mute came down he could tell she was too. She had been practicing on trying to speak. Mute bowed to Stardust then Kay in a rather formal manner.

[member="Darben Skirae"] [member="Lady Kay"]

thank you darben and I don't mind you should've seen my place before you visited hahaha

She entered then stepped out of the way as she smiled to lady kay and nodded her head

Well well sister, it seems either you've been eating very well or you have a little one on the way hahaha

She said teasing her with a friendly smile before she approached and to give her a quick hug then stepped back as she looked to darben and gave a proud smile

I'm hoping today we can get her to say a few words basic stuff nothing major but a big leap! If this works then possibly we could see a cure for those that have no voice

She turned to mute and smiled as she bowed back to her and then looked to her again as she spoke

Alright today we are gonna try a few words and hopefully maybe even a sentence...youve been doing well with letters so I hope this goes well

Kay raised a brow at [member="Darben Skirae"] whom was obviously excited. She didn't know that Mute needed surgery. Her silence was usually attributed to trauma, as far as she knew. To hear that it was something physical was a different matter entirely.

She laughed as she gave [member="Stardust Raxis"] a hug back. "Two little ones actually...much to our surprise." And delight. It had meant that theirs wouldn't be an only child.

As Mute walked down the stairs, Kay just gave her a warm smile. The girl was always shy and she didn't want her to shy her away. So she just waited with her hands clasped on top of her belly. If anything, it was a good hand rest, tea cup rest, ect.

Skirae overheard [member="Lady Kay"] and [member="Stardust Raxis"] talking, but he made no comment as he picked up the last of the spilled merchandise, putting it back up on it's shelf. "Now that that is done, let me just get some chairs" he said before going out to the back. He gave a quick greeting to Mia, and a rundown to her about the visitors, so his bodyguard would not worry at all about them being there in the store. He brought out two chairs, one each for his visitors then stood behind the counter, and Mute sat up on top of the counter with her legs dangling off the edge.

"All right, Mute. Can you...can you try?" he asked. "And thank you for coming Kay, she really wanted you to see this. She sees you as a good friend, you kn-"

"K...K-Kay." Darben turned his head, and he had heard her make sounds. "Hi...Kay." Finally, Mute had spoken. Her voice was a bit mechanical and scratchy, but that didn't change how Darben felt right then and there. Mute even seemed to smile. She rubbed her throat a bit. He guessed that she had went with saying Kay, as her name was rather short. Either that, or because Mute was just giving a greeting. "H-Hi....Tardus."

She took a seat bowing her head in thanks as she looked over to mute, she smiled again excited to see if this paid off. Looking over at darben she listened to him before she heard a different voice and turned to mute as she started wide eyed and smiled big as she stood and laughed lightly

By the force it works....still some improvement...hello mute, it seems like it's working still need a bit of help as well...but this is amazing...

She sat back down and was smiling bright as she thought for a moment of what to do next, thinking for a minute more she spoke

try and say a simple sentence mute, please

Kay sat down in one of the chairs that [member="Darben Skirae"] brought out, her eyes all on Mute. She didn't want to stare, but it was like waiting for a present to be opened. She just didn't know what to expect.

And then the words came out. More importantly her name. Mute didn't call her by any of her titles, but by her name! Kay just beamed with joy, clasping her hands together with excitement. "Hi Mute! Oh wow...What a delightful surprise!" Of course she didn't want her to strain her throat just yet. She looked over to [member="Stardust Raxis"] who was obviously behind all this and whispered a 'thank you'. This would really help with the girl's confidence. And it would ease Darben's stress too.

What a good day that this was turning into. She couldn't wait to tell her husband.

Darben nodded to Mute in encouragement, trying to coax her to bring out a sentence. Just a string of words. And by the looks of it, and the sounds she was making, she was trying, still getting used to the device. "Come on Mute, you can get the words out." He couldn't have been happier, more glad, despite everything. He had never felt the love of having a child, of seeing something that could make him so, so very proud. And yet, here he was now. Proud as ever. Darben had been proud of work, proud of himself. But he was much more proud of Mute. More than anything. "Is this what it feels like to have a child? To feel prouder than ever?" He hadn't realized that he had said that aloud.

Eventually, some words came out. "Wel...Welcome to Kire...Skirae's Emporum!" Darben almost laughed, surprised that was her choice of words. He had said it a lot, and she had been there to help when customers came in.

Well, he was just glad she had managed a sentence. But, she wasn't done yet apparently. "My...name is....Renla!" At that moment, Darben seemed to freeze up for a moment. All this time, she had never even signed her name...and yet, now that she could speak, she gave her name so confidently.

[member="Darben Skirae"]

She watched her and glanced to her sister as she offered a nod and a smile, she did this to give her a chance, seeing it worked got Stardust thinking of ways to improve it make it better for mute to speak maybe a clearer voice or something of the sorts

Looking back to mute she heard more words coming out, then chuckled as she announced the buildings name as she covered her mouth and giggled some more smiling proudly and nodded to mute

She still wasn't done, Stardust eyes widened as she heard those four words and gasped lightly as she looked to mu....no wait renla....so that was her name...

renla....certainly a name worthy of you!

Kay just smiled to [member="Darben Skirae"] and nodded. Feeling pride over the accomplishments of a child was certainly a part of parenting. Although Mute was hardly a young kid, she was certainly young enough to have plenty of learning ahead of it. It made Kay wonder if Darben would adopt her in the end.

But Mute wasn't done yet. All three of adults, [member="Stardust Raxis"] included, waited on baited breath as Mute spoke whole sentences. It was all worthwhile, especially as she gave her name. The look of shock on Darben's face made Kay realize that he had no idea of her real name. Perhaps 'Renla' was too frightened that him knowing it would suddenly send the bad people her way, even though that was probably further than the truth. But there were many people that hid their names, using an alias to allow them to do their work.

"Yes, it's a beautiful name." No doubt they couldn't call her by her neckname anymore.

Darben was not sure how he was supposed to respond. All this time, he knew her as Mute, and Mute alone. And now, she went by a new name. Her true name. Renla. [member="Lady Kay"] [member="Stardust Raxis"] responded well to the name, but Darben was just stunned at first to make any kind of reply. "Renla...Renla..." The young twi'lek nodded, smiling joyfully. He turned his head toward Stardust. He had her to thank, now he knew Mute, no, Renla's name. But that begged the question. Why had she not said, or rather written or signed it before?

"I...I don't know what to say...why didn't you tell me? Write it? Or..or something." He was just very confused as to why she had never mentioned it. He had taught her to write. Her smile seemed to disappear, and she looked away from Darben. It seemed she did not know how to answer either.

But then, he just shook his head. "No, it doesn't matter. What matters, is that you can talk. And I have you to thank, Stardust" he said to Stardust. "And Kay, thank you for coming. I'm sure you know how much Mu- Renla sees you as a close friend" he said, correcting himself on her name quickly. "Close friend" Renla repeated, nodding toward Kay.

[member="Darben Skirae"]

I will continue to improve my design, be a much smoother voice in the future....but your welcome darben, renla. I did it for her and you...you owe me nothing

She had no gain on this, but now she had a design that could help many many people who needed it, considering their vocal cords and such weren't to damaged

I'll also keep coming to check your progress with speech and if you want I can help with teaching and rehabilitation

Kay just smiled. In truth her heart was melting. Of course that could be just the pregnancy harmones. And gosh were those tears starting to fall? She held her breath for a moment to stop herself and then released it slowly.

"You're welcome Darben and Renla. I'm so glad that I got to be here for it. I consider you family and I'm glad to be seen as a close friend to you."

She blinked for a moment and looked down to her tummy, placing a hand on it while one of the little ones inside was moving around. "These two are getting quite active. I wonder if that means that they'll be bundles of energy when they're born?"

[member="Darben Skirae"] [member="Stardust Raxis"]

Renla smiled at both [member="Lady Kay"] [member="Stardust Raxis"], wider than ever. Than her curious eyes followed Kay's hand, she didn't know what she meant exactly. Darben missed this, as his attention was on Stardust as she spoke. "I can organize times for the check ups. If you need me to, we can visit you on your planet. Whenever, you just call me...unless I'm on a business trip." He turned a bit to catch Renla's curious stare, and gave a little laugh. "It looks like Renla is wondering what is in there" he said, looking to Kay. "I'll be back, just going to check up on Mia in the back" he said, eager to spread the news to his bodyguard. He wasn't really sure if she could careless, they hardly knew each other.

"What in there?" Renla finally asked, pointing to Kay's tummy, confirming what Darben thought.

[member="Darben Skirae"] [member="Lady Kay"]

that works perfectly! I won't too busy unless something comes up. Course I'm good meeting here or my planet either way I can't wait to see renla progress!

Course, process was happening before her eyes, glancing over to lady kay she looked down as she mentioned the little ones being active as she laughed and nodded to lady kay. She remembered carrying he little boy and to say he wasn't a active one was a big lie. She glanced to renla as she looked to Kay and then turned to renla

a baby or well two actually

Kay wanted to laugh, but instead she just smiled. It wasn't Renla's fault that she didn't know. She nodded to [member="Darben Skirae"] as he headed off and then looked to [member="Stardust Raxis"] as she answered the question.

"She's right. I have two younglings growing inside. Soon they'll be ready to come out. Did you want to feel them move?" Kay invited her over."You don't have to if you don't want to. It is kind of weird, even to me." But first pregnancies are always like that, aren't they?

Renla cocked her head at an angle, like a curious child. She wasn't sure whether or not she wanted to, but after [member="Lady Kay"]'s offer, she hopped off the counter, cautiously getting closer. She eased into comfort as she put her hand against Kay's belly. And when they moved, she quickly removed her hand. She looked between Kay and [member="Stardust Raxis"], rather confused. "Babies move" she said, with a touch of excitement.
