Why Jedi?

So this is just a general discussion thread for the faction as a whole. This is a Jedi faction centering around the idea of the Jedi as a whole rather than simply as independent orders. Which begs the question as I try and start developing some faction plots and stories.

What makes you write a Jedi? Why do you want to? What types of Jedi stories do you most enjoy writing? I have a shelved plot for a Jedi based story that I can bring in easily enough- one that's really focused on what I thought were core aspects of the Jedi. But I want to see what you all think that would be.

While my availability makes it difficult at times, there's a number of reasons why I love playing a Jedi based Character.

  • The path to becoming a Jedi Knight.

I love the idea around students training under a mentor, starting at a young age and spending years studying the force and following a life towards living true and just for others, unselfishly and willing to step in front of the fire to fight for the needs of others. Forming the bond between a Master and an Apprentice, whether seen as family or friend, traversing years of struggles and growing together in the Force.

(I spent three IRL years playing out the role of a Jedi student in Jedi Knight Academy, we had a very in-depth RP clan there and the lore and detail of the role-play even for a game was extra-ordinary. I took most of the influence for this character from there).

  • A Unified Jedi Order.

The idea around the Jedi Order, beyond that of the relationships between personal members is an excellent one. Not like any government but rather an unbiased body of personnel trained and humble, dedicated to preserving the balance of the Force and the good of the downtrodden. That the Jedi Order could be such a powerful faction and yet not use that power for themelves but others, it certainly hits a few morale heart strings of my own. :D

  • Player vs Player Roleplay.

Though I've not done a lot of it on Chaos as of yet, the idea around PvP excites me and naturally as those of the Jedi Order, we have a common opposition in the Dark Side that everyone knows about. Whether Sith, Dark-Jedi or Rogues looking out for themselves, the potential RP in meeting these characters and fighting them under a respectable OOC standing definitely motivates me.

I realize it's very vague but I'm running out of time here. Tiland, I am still meaning to get involved with that thread of yours too though again, things have been hectic and I've been unfortunately distracted with the threads taking part in the Commoner faction where Veiere is currently based but I'll get to it as soon as I'm able.

Honestly? I don't know. All of the time that I've spent on this board I've been playing darksiders. Specifically, all of my characters aside from this one have been a part of or dealt with the Primeval quite a bit. I guess I'm really just getting tired of doing the same thing all the time.

I've yet to be able to have a character with the traditional apprentice-master relationship due to my Sith mostly training himself. Even so, the relationship is much different

As far as Jedi stories I like to write? I don't know yet, this one is a first. Maybe I like a good cliche, maybe I don't. I still have to discover that myself. I made this padawan in order to grow myself as a writer, after all.

What I value the most about the Jedi Order is that there is or at-least was once a valued focused on the training of a Jedi Student. From a Hopeful (yearning to become a member of the Order), Initiate (Inducted into the Order as a new entrance member) to the Students being Young Padawan to Senior Padawan (A padawan without a master, having learned of the ways yet to be given the rank of jedi Knight under a Master/Current Jedi Knight); the true value of owning the accomplishments of growing into the rank that makes the core of the Jedi Order; there is in my mind no truer initiative to becoming a Jedi than what is the journey towards learning of the path guided by the master that the Council has set before you. In any form of Order, the achievements of rising through the ranks and following the same cause is what I believe is the best drive through a Jedi-Fueled roleplay. Something that in my opinion has been lacking on Chaos though that is my distinct opinion.

The failure in my mind is that Padawan and Jedi Knight are more of an OOC rank on Chaos here than they are In-Character.

Thanks for the responses! Those are all definitely some really good thoughts and concepts, definitely do quite a bit at making the Jedi interesting. We can also work on integrating them in some form or another as part of the Church of the Force. It adds strong avenues for story and inter-character growth with a strong structure.

And Shu, your comment on cliche is interesting. I'm not sure, given Chaos' nature, that classic style Jedi are cliche on this board. They're pretty rare from what I've seen. But that does bring up the point on why that appears to be the case.
