Who can own civilian stations?

A new sub raises the question. We haven't been entirely specific on who can own civilian stations?

Should they follow the rule for starships?

A tier 6 can only own a 3000m ship, should they be allowed larger civilian space stations?

Low priority question.


Minor Faction Rules

1. Minor factions are permitted unique, PC-captained ships up to a length of 1,000 meters

Major Faction Rules

1. Major Factions are permitted unique, PC-captained ships up to a length of 3,000 meters.

Company Rules

1. Mass producing any starship will require substantial proof of income by way of development thread, higher tier company, or Minor/Major Faction involvement.
2. To produce a ship over 1,000 meters in length, a company must be Tier 3 or higher.
3. Companies may own and operate a realistic amount of non-combat starships where maximum length per ship = ( Tier Number x 1000 ) / 2
4. Companies may own and operate a realistic amount of combat starships where maximum length per ship = ( Tier Number x 1000 ) / 3 and maximum fleet length = ((Tier Number x 1000) x (Tier Number)) / 2
 
Civilian stations I think are up for grabs for anyone. As long as they are only civilian stations.

Once we get to heavy defenses of the combat type, i don't see a minor faction or a company below a Tier five able to maintain it.

I'm okay with sticking with a set amount 3km for military stations for T6 companies and minors. ( currently, a tier 6 company can have a combat ship of a length 2km) ( what is the largest station so far with combat stats?) I just don't want 10 different Spirit of Drunkenwell types floating around.

Unless we want to bump it up?

The stations template we put into place was more for non combative items -- not actually intended for combat oriented ones.

Is it possible to up the Minor Faction max ship size. Say to 1600 meters. For instance allow them to field a ship over 1km but only for character commanders. this would help out the minor factions alot for fleeting issues.

A civilian station is, by definition, for civilians. I don't see a reason why a minor faction & large companies can't own a large civilian station, so long as their armament rating follows the standard set for them.

Exactly.


I think the main concern here then is Military Stations and who may own them. ( Company tier level, Minor, Major max length)

I am fine with civil stations being just that but when for instance they add advanced shielding and armor and more armor and cloaking devices and then more advanced stuff when does it become military?

as for military stations I feel it should work more or less like star ships. for all practical purposes a station is a star ship since it can move and has a hyperdrive. There is no real difference in a station and a battle cruiser per the current templates.

If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and smells like a duck...

If it's a military ship, it's a military ship. There are no if's and/or buts around it. Don't approve a "civilian station" if it is in all forms a military ship except by name.
 
Let's stop bothering to discuss if a station has heavy armaments whether it is civilian or not:



Armament: (You must provide your vessel an Armament Rating on a scale of 0-20, where 0 is no weapons, 1 is very light weapons, 5 is light weapons, 10 is average weapons, and 20 is heaviest weapons. Armament Ratings are scaled in relation to the class of ship, meaning a Starfighter will not equate to a Destroyer. Armament Ratings provide only basic weaponry unless the ship also has a breakdown of weapons. Civilian stations are only permitted basic weaponry. Please link to all Factory Submissions used. Typically requires development: Anything above 4. Links: Starship Weapons, Approved Technology)
Defenses: (You may provide your shield and armor systems in list format and must provide your vessel an Defense Rating on a scale of 0-20, where 0 is a man in a space suit hanging on to an engine, 10 is typical defense, and 20 is heaviest defense with heavy plating and multiple layers of shields. Defensive Ratings are scaled in relation to the type of ship, meaning a Starfighter will not equate to a Destroyer. You should list particular systems under special features. Please link to all Factory Submissions used. Typically requires development: Anything above 10. Links: Starship Weapons, Approved Technology)


A 10km station with 100 posts of development is capped out at armament 4 and defences 10.

It's that simple.
