What is the Force?

Jaxton Ravos

Mindwalker of the Outer Rim
Jaxton, along with several other members of the Silent Conclave, had just finished a mission on Nar Shadda, helping out refugees get food and displacing tyrant gangsters who had made a nasty habit of stealing and hording incoming food, water, and medicine then selling them at ridiculous markups. It went rather well, heck they even managed to meet up with an old friend in Ben Watts, but for @[member="Kida Ravos"], Jaxton's adopted child, it wasn't the most steady of trips. She had, for the first time, felt the Force all around her, and recognized it as something different. It wasn't something that was merely intuition, or smart tactics, but a sixth sense in and of itself. Jaxton had elected not to explain the phenomenon to her at the time, they had work to do and she was scared and he was focusing most of his energy on forming a link between the two of them, with a form of Battle Meditation that was more akin to a meld between two minds.

But now they were alone, just the two of them outside the enclave. He had brought her out here for a lesson, which wasn't uncommon, but normally regulated to language. She'd probably wait for him to speak, point at somethings, work with her phonetics, but instead he sat down and began to meditate. She'd feel him, again in the Force as she had on Nar Shadda. Her thoughts would be comforted, reassured, her senses enhanced, both physically and in the Force. Since he couldn't effectively tell her all of what the Force was, Jaxton intended to show her, to let her feel it through him.

Kida had been shaken up pretty badly by the venture to Nar Shadda; she had felt the pain and suffering of others, witnessed conflict between several of her companions, two of whom made up her world, and some bad men. Her beloved Furry had been injured, and she’d been forced to involuntarily transform into her beast form which, as of late, had been having a tiring effect on her. The latter was due to the fact that Kida had a busy lifestyle these days, and both her physical and mental capabilities were constantly tested. While outwardly it would seem minimal, learning to walk and talk was a strain on a child of her age, who had known no better for eight years of her life.

But the chance to run around in the forest was not a moment she would pass up, and thus as she began to be led outside she broke free from his grasp and ran, on her hands and feet, across the grassy planes, enjoying the sense of freedom, until she reached their usual spot. It seemed as though she had begun to learn, as usually she would have had to be called back to the spot before they could begin. She watched and waited patiently, but when he didn’t begin her brows furrowed. His eyes were closed… Crawling to him she nudged his chest and said “Jaa-un… Wa’e up!” thinking him to be asleep even as she felt his presence comforting her thoughts.

Jaxton smiled, as the child snuggled into his chest and told him to wake up. It seemed the quietness of meditation was lost on her, which was not entirely unexpected. Opening his eyes he looked at the girl with a small grin, and picked her up by her sides, before placing her a little farther away. She was still close, in her arms reach of Jaxton, but not on top of him as she was prior. Still silent he picked up a rock and showed it to her, his hand open, before concentrating a moment and pushing the rock upwards with the Force, levitating it in place. Jaxton was not, and never would be a good telekinetic, but he the strength of a practiced and experienced padawan in the art. It wasn't an effortless task, but neither was it extremely draining. Through the Force Meld Jaxton was initiating with Kida she'd feel his exertion, that the levitation had it's toll on the mind, just as lifting a crate would on the body.

"What do you . . . feel?" He asked, not knowing if she'd understand all of the words, but it was a decent enough change she'd get the concept. Her speech had been improving lately, putting words, mostly half words together, instead of merely being confused on everything. It wasn't complete progress, but it still made Jaxton happy all the same. In another few months maybe she'd be able to pronounce his full name.

Kida glared at him when he lifted her only to set her aside. With a growl she made to step closer again, he was confusing her. She didn't like it. It took all of her self control to remain as a child as opposed to changing into a beast. But he picked something up and it caught her eye. Her animalistic instincts kicked in and she found herself watching the slightly-shiny pebble which he held in his grasp. "Jaaa" she said, crawling around to his side to get a good look. She even leant in to sniff at it... But that proved a bad move! The pebble lifted from his hand just as she leant in, and the child jumped backwards, wrinkling her struck nose.

It was then that she felt him tire. Was he doing that? Her eyes widened in amazement. How was he doing that? It made her feel tired too. With a small yawn she curled up and watched. "Tadderd" she murmured, trying as best as she could to say the word properly. She nudged against his knee before looking up to stare at the pebble some more. She was in awe, she wanted to know how he did it, but she did not know how to ask!
