What Can Be Found

Kurt Meyer

Let Me Push That Button
Mos Espa

Kurt walked slowly through the old Grand Arena, his eyes flicking around to ensure that nobody was standing guard.

The scenario was about as unlikely as could be, no one really cared about the Arena unless there was a race. The place was owned by some Hutt now, though just who it was Kurt couldn't actually recall off the top of his head. When he'd won his races the Hutt had been named Krazic, a man...slug...thing that had been oddly kind, though notoriously narcoleptic. For a Hutt he'd always been rather nice though, and it had earned him quite the reputation.

Of course that reputation had gotten him killed in the end, but Kurt sort of supposed that was all part of the game for Hutts. Unless you were strong enough to keep your claim someone was going to come looking. It was the same for the races that were held here, you had to fight for your place.

If your pod wasn't fast enough it would lose, if it wasn't tough enough you'd get smashed. That was the way of the race, the way that it all worked. Of course Kurt had aimed to game the system, to make his pod outstrip all the others. He'd done it well enough with the help of his father, though there had been more than a few incidents during the first two races. A smile touched his face as the Nostalgia took him for a moment.

The former Courier stood quietly within the track, closing his eyes and remembering the cheering of the crowds.

It was that first win that he remembered the most. Crossing the finish line, the roaring of the cheers and applause, meeting Miss Arceneau and a dozen other important Tatooine folk. It was burned into his mind better than most things, certainly more so than the next two wins.

Slowly Kurt opened his eyes, looking around the empty arena for just a moment.

His smile didn't thin, and slowly he set himself upon the path he'd raced down so many years ago.
