We Care For Our Citizens

Just as the last leaf fell from the tree, ushering in a new season for Kesh, the doors to the Black Rose Naval Academy witnessed it's first round of applicants. Keeping to their promise to the citizens, the Black Rose Council had voted on the creation of the academy for two reasons, both serving to benefit both parties involved.
The Council wanted the citizens to know that they cared for them, their culture, and their need to find suitable careers to survive on a planet in the Outer Rim. Life, compared to those that called the Core Worlds home, was not easy and full of glamour and temptation; but harsh living and a vicious cycle of etching out a meaningful survival. So the academy was built to give those citizens an opportunity to make a career for their lives.
The second reason was that the Black Rose needed to bolster their ranks in the navy. Traditionally, most that served in the Black Rose's military where female, but it was debated and decided upon that discriminating anyone based on gender would push the citizens away rather than draw them into the warm embrace of their new rulers. So women and men alike were encouraged to dip their hand into navy life.
Surprisingly, over three-hundred applicants applied but only the top one-hundred could be accepted; since that was the limit capacity the academy could house. Those that didn't make the initial cut, had their names added to a waiting list. However, there were several other projects the Council had in the works, and to reward those that didn't make the first round; where given temporary jobs until positions in the academy opened up.

CJ, not only a Dark Jedi but an officer in the Black Rose military, watched as the applicants were sorted out and assigned to their quarters. She had no real knowledge of naval tactics, but she was free and offered her time to the citizens of Kesh; and to the teachers and trainers helping where she could to make this a smooth transition. The people she saw, who would one day wear the uniform of the Black Rose Navy, seemed happy and excited. They were being handed an opportunity that she believed they never had before. CJ visited some of the sites here on Kesh, and she was appalled by how some folks lived.

"What's your name," she asked of a passing man.

"Jensen, ma'am," he replied.

"how old are you, Jensen?"

"18, ma'am."

"Why did you enlist in the academy, Jensen?"

"To be honest, ma'am. I see what you all are doing for Kesh and if you are willing to help us. Well shoot it's only right I help you."

"How kind of you, Jensen. Well let me be the first to welcome you to the academy."

CJ and Jensen bid farewell and she watched him disappear into the academy. For so long she struggled to find herself in the galaxy. For to long she walked alone. Now, here on Kesh and a sister in the Black Rose, she found herself. The smiles on the faces of the people was the only reward she needed for doing what she could for them; and future citizens that would find themselves under the protection of both the Black Rose and the Grand Lady.

Traveling through the halls of the academy, Darth Venefica took close observation of everything that was going on. Without the defense Force here, which was in route, she felt alittle wary about keeping the citizens in the academy. There was no clear and present danger lurking in the shadows, plotting and calculating it's perfect time to strike. But she had been around long enough to know that dangers, small or grand scale, could crop up at anytime. So until the main defense force could arrive, she had brought along her personal troops, Nightshade Company, to watch over the citizens and the facility.
Since she had the time, a tour of the academy was in order. Her first stop was the cafeteria, where her stomach had made a strong case for coming here first. She chose to avoid the vending machines, and order up some real food. She was impressed by the layout of the eating grounds. Seeing it in blueprint form was one thing, seeing the complete product was something different entirely. Those applicants that elected to sample the food, seemed for the most part, satisfied with the food. When she tried it, she found it acceptable.
"Lady Venefica, you have a message," one of the teachers said handing her a datapad.
When she finished reading it, a smile crept onto her face. It just wasn't good news she read, but it was the news she had been waiting for. The first of the defense force would be arriving within the next two hours. The Sith Lady stood up from her table, noting she had some last minute preparations to make before their arrival.

CJ took it upon herself, since she was a people person, to help the new recruits find their assigned quarters. Being overwhelmed on your first day was something she was all to familiar with. And being nervous in a new surrounding was another thing she knew well, but she was here to ease both those troubles for the future heroes of the Black Rose Navy. While walking through the corridors, she noticed a man and a woman standing there, confused looks on their faces.

"Can I assist you two with anything," she politely asked.

"Actually, yes," replied the man.

"I think I'm in the wrong section," came the reply from the woman.

CJ asked for their datasheets, looking over them thoroughly. The woman was in the wrong section, as well as the young man. As it so happened, both people were actually assigned to the same section; bunk mates in fact. She gestured them to follow her. CJ, in no time flat, got them to their quarters.

"Here you two go. My name is Ciara Jevnaker and if you two need anything else, please feel free to have me contacted."

With a sense of pride swelling in her heart, she watched as the transports carrying both the troops and vehicles that would be stationed at the academy descending from the sky. Since this had been her project, she had been given free reign on what could be used her, and she chose appropriately. She could have brought in enough defenses to make it look like an invasion, but she didn't want the cadets or the surrounding towns think martial law was being pronounced. The Black Rose worked hard to win the hearts and minds of the citizens of Kesh, and the surrounding planets under their guidance.
The gunships, recently purchased from TDI, had arrived a day before; and were currently running routine patrols of the area. The academy had nothing to fear from dissidents, but the patrols were mostly for the protection of the citizens. The mechanical engineers, always hard at work, and finished setting up the Jequirity turrets around the academy. Again, this was for the protection of the cadets to prevent any stray wild beasts from roaming onto the grounds. The way the academy was positioned and located, natural defenses aided in the protection.
"Nothing is more satisfying than the satisfaction of a well job done."

Over the academy's communication system, she heard the the voice booming through it announcing the arrival of the academy's defense forces. CJ knew that Darth Venefica was in charge of the transition of getting them in order, and to their assigned duties before they both left the academy for greener projects. Still, she was just alittle curious to see their arrival. CJ ran toward the landing pad, where she saw the first transport touch down. CJ had begun to appreciate the finer arts of military life and tactics; hence her appointment to the rank of officer. Per tradition, no Force user in the Black Rose could hold a major military title except for basic officer, which suited her just fine. She was to busy to concern herself with military politics.

Standing next to the Sith Lady, she watched the Sisterhood troops begin filtering out of the transport, well trained and well organized now since the time the first batch saw real combat. She fought alongside them briefly before, and was amazed at how well they followed orders and conducted themselves with professional attitudes. Unlike some soldiers she had fought alongside, the Sisterhood troops fought with not only a strong passion to win and succeed; but they fought to protect one another. CJ learned that they carried in their minds an unwritten motto, "Leave no Sister behind!"

"They are truly a sight to behold," she said to Darth Venefica.

"Indeed they are," she replied.
On the heels of the troop transport, came the other transport carrying the vehicles. She watched as the Uada Somnia began moving down the ramp, followed by the AGORA landspeeders. Both would serve the academy well. Both, mainly the landspeeders, could patrol the nearby forest regions guiding in and out of the trees, while the US themselves could patrol almost anywhere; but would be designated to the plains regions. She considered bringing in bigger guns, but after much thought; it seemed like unnecessary use of military assets. This was, afterall, a place of learning and not a military installation.
"Would you be so kind to handle the troops...get them settled in," she said to the tall Vahla girl.

With a small nod of her head, CJ left the Sith Lady to her own business and made her way to the awaiting troops. While she walked toward them, she began organizing them in her head. With a company of troops, at 150 strong, she could break them up into 6 squads of 25. They could rotate out patrols and assignments, plus training exercises, to prevent having them out at the same time. When she grew closer, she whistled to 6 of the girls that held the highest ranks in the company.

"These are your new orders. I'm breaking the company up into 6 smaller squads of 25, each squad will have a squad leader. That will be you six," she told them.

"To prevent any favouritism, I'll personally choose who goes where. Once the squads are formed up, I'll make a detailed account of each squad and present it to the Academy's Headmaster. From there, you six will coordinate with him."

Keeping into tradition of military lingo, she created the six squad designating them with names from Alpha to Foxtrot. With everyone now in their assigned squads, she led the entire company to their housing units. Once they were settled in, she headed toward the Academy's Headmaster's office with a datapad in her hand. She was starting to enjoy playing soldier.

With the young Vahla handling the troops, it freed up the Sith Lady to organize the vehicles. She already knew what she wanted them to do, and to get that done she needed to speak to each unit's commanding officer. To ensure the proper handling of the Academy's defenses, all commanders needed to be on the same page. No weak links, only strong bonds.
"Commander Dor," she said to the commanding officer of the UA.
"I want you take your boys and girls out on patrol at once. You are familiar with the layout and I want you to make sure that each and everyone of them do as well."
"Understood, mi'lady."
Turning her attention to the commander of the AGORA landspeeders, she gestured for him to join her. She led him to the section where the vehicles and the drivers would be housed. Once they were there, she instructed him to commence with training exercises at once. Before the arrival of the Academy's commander arrives, who would take the duties over from the Headmaster, she wanted everyone in tip-top form.
"It will be done, mi'lady."
That only left the gunship commanders to deal with. Since two squads at been brought in, she felt that instead of having only one commander to oversee them, that each squad would retain their current commander. She ordered on commander to begin patrolling the area to the east, and the other to the north. When their patrols were concluded, she would have someone from the Academy show them to their quarters.

With all the formalities out of the way, and the patrols out doing their jobs, it left her with a sense of accomplishment. In the past, she had undertaken some projects before, but those projects where only erecting buildings and facilities to be used; this building was designed by her, built by engineers she personally chosen, and the kicker; she chose the defenses. So, if this academy fell or was destroyed, she would take it as a personal shot to her face. And since she struggled these days with killing or not killing, at the end of the day she was still the Dagobah Sith.
Now with all the details in the Headmaster's hands, with strict orders to turn them over to Commander Vicote, the true commnader of this academy, she was now free to leave the academy behind and pursue other projects. Stepping onto her transport, she looked over her shoulder at the building, smiling as she watched the cadets frolicing, already sensing the bond growing between them. This group, the very first group, would not only learn to fight together; but they will learn to live together, share together, and in the end, regardless of what corner of Kesh they came from, or other planet, one thing was certain. She had brought them all together.
