Strengths:
  • Intervention Time. The Warden’s main ability is being able to prevent or interrupt hyperspace travel. This is perfect for ambushing or trapping an enemy.
  • Light Support. Compared with the old Imperial interdictors, the Warden has more attack craft and more defence guns. It can defend itself against fighter or bomber attacks which don’t overwhelm it.
  • Shields Up. Redundant shield generators allow it to survive a little longer before being hit.
Weaknesses:
  • Eggshell Armour. The gravity well generators make heavy armour impossible. Any enemy which gets through the shields can do serious damage, especially to the wells.
  • Slow and Heavy. For its size and class the Warden is slow and clumsy to manoeuvre. It will find it hard to escape danger in combat if under attack.
  • Pin Prick. The Warden’s capital weapons are insignificant, capable only of worrying corvettes or frigates. Any real capital ship will make a meal of an unsupported Warden.

Description:
Of all the craft to construct for the new Coalition, an Interdictor was very low on the list. The Republic had never had one freely available, and the Admiral had not needed one. However, the new situations of the rim made one desirable both to catch fleeing raiders and to ambush potential invaders.

The interdictors of old were magnificent crafts, and the core components of the old Immobiliser 418 were not changed much. Developments in technology however allowed the cruiser to carry a slightly increased weapons load and squadron compliment. This gave the ship a slightly better lifespan in combat.

However, the Warden remains a ship used in the rear areas for support, not for combat. If a ship managed to get through to it and attack with anything more than cruiser grade weapons the Warden would be swiftly overwhelmed.

As a pure niche support ship, the Warden has a role, but outside of this the ship is mostly useless in combat, being too underarmed, fragile and clumsy to engage the enemy.

Intent: To create an Interdictor ship for the Coalition. This craft is designed for limited use and is not a true warship per se. It’s biggest (and only) strength is its ability to interrupt or prevent hyperspace travel.
