SETTING INFORMATION

City Name: Wan-Shen Village

Classification: Rural Town

Location: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Jelucan
Affiliation: The town is small and unaffiliated with galactic politics. Currently ORC territory.

Demographics: The village population is primarily human and near-human with few non-human members. As the village small it is welcoming to anyone who can help the community as a whole. Trouble makers are however unwelcomed regardless of species.

Wealth: Low. The village consists mainly of farmers and artisans who travel out of the village to sell their crafts.

Stability: High stability. The village is overseen by a group of Matukai off shoot adepts consisting of four adepts and an Elder adept. People rely heavily on cooperation between families and as such tend to support one another in various difficulties. The feel of the village is quite primitive compared to nearly any galactic city but is very self-sufficient.

Description:
The village rest high in the Jelucan mountains. The village itself rest in a secluded high elevation valley between two peaks. The village is supplied with fresh water from snowmelt from the peaks and has slightly less rocky soil than most high elevation valleys. Farming is seasonal with rotational crops grown in terrace style fields. The people wear simple utilitarian clothing made from local plant fibers woven into garments which have an unmistakable Atrisian style.

POINTS OF INTEREST
Training Grounds: The Matukai that originally took up hiding in the Jelucan mountains sometime before the 400 year darkness built a small communal homestead with a training area that abuts the western of the two mountain peaks. The western slope of the mountain is therefore used for training and meditation. All villagers are allowed to use these grounds as long as they respect the property. The building itself is one story tall with a squared horseshoe shape with the open end of the square facing the western slope of the valley. It can house up to 30 individuals in very modest quarters but rarely holds more than ten at any one time.

Meeting Hall: The meeting hall of the town is at the lowest point of the town. The village elders gather here weekly to discuss village matters, delegate responsibilities and in rare cases judge disputes. It is a square tiered structure that is two stories tall.

Speeder Stop: The village has one designated landing pad. As a community they co-own a large cargo speeder used to carry artisans to other cities to sell wears and return with supplies. It can hold 4 land speeders and the town cargo speeder.

Quarry: Just outside of the village to the south is a large Jelucan fogstone quarry that the town artisans use to quarry and sculpt statues and other items. The quarry is the only source of income for the village. Do to the importance of the quarry it is highly regarded as honorable employment and people who work the quarry are treated almost as well as the Matukai adepts. All Matukai apprentices are required to work in the quarry and obey the civilain quarry workers.

Terrace Farms: The farms are the primary source of food for the entire village and as such all members of the village take part in the farming. The farm is overseen by the village elders and anyone particularly skilled with agriculture. Oversight of the farms is one of the highest honors but is also extremely important as failed crops could mean heavy loss of life in the harsh winter months.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Wan-Shen Village was founded by a Matukai adept and a former Imperial Shadow Guard who ran to hide during the later days of The first Galactic Empire. The two individuals built a small dwelling and slowly began constructing a training ground with fogstone and trees from the local mountains. Both in their middle years at the time spent large amounts of time in meditaion and excercise. The two made occasional visits to other Jelucan cities and on more than one occasion would bring war orphans and refugees into their home and allow them to stay as long as they respected thier rules and one another.

Over time the welcoming of Orphans and refugees required new building to be built and farming to begin. Each villager at the time was at least slightly force sensitive and trained together with the two Matukai. However, due to the need to remain hidden they seldom let large groups travel from the village together. When the two founders were in their hundreds, an age resulting from the healthy lifestyle and force sensitivity the village had already seen the births of several children who's parents had been offered succor in their times of need. Slowly the village began to grow and expand into a larger town. Many children grew and left for the cities under oath not to bring trouble back to Wan-Shen.

For many years the village remained larger and expanded building a quarry, a large training area and a terrace farming system. Many technological advances were brought to the town and utilized for the good of the community which was ever growing. The Matukai Adepts continued to train new generations and due to the majority of the founding members being force sensitive, the number of force sensitive births was higher than most. Non-force sensitives were also trained in Matukai arts some even developing a rudimentary control and sensitivity where none previously could be found.

The village was nearly a city by the time the gulag plague hit the planet and wiped out more than half the local population. The people who were already secluded used extreme isolationism even on their own world to help stop the spread of the plague. The strongest Matukai adepts were able to survive and as such the village's traditions continued despite the extreme losses.
